Irish boxer Katie Taylor made her Olympic debut at the 2012 Summer Games in Lonon. For the first time, women were allowed to compete in boxing and Taylor automatically qualified as the reigning World Champion. On August 6th she fought her first Olympic fight against the Briton Natasha Jonas, which ended with a 26-15 victory. Her success continued throughout the tournament and Taylor took the gold medal in the lightweight division.
