  • After last winter's extensive restoration of my Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 from 1987, there's still work do.
    The wheel bolts were in such a bad shape that they continued to destroy the nuts, heavy braking yielded in vibrations of the steering wheel, the carpet of the trunk has been replaced and the engine oil needed replacement.

    Hi Mr Fingers.. lol .. Just an observation, when you did your wheel bearings in a previous video, you were struggling to adjust and test your wheel bearing clearance.. What you may be missing is that something that feels like a loose bearing could in fact be play in the strut itself. On the black tube section it has a sleeve at the top of your black strut and then you have the absorber sliding in and out and what can happen when the bearing/sleeve gets worn it can feel exactly like a loose bearing when it is this sleeve that wears out. I see this problem a lot particularly on a high mileage car. There are a couple of ways to fix this problem but I am sure you know how to do it.. Great videos mate, keep them coming..

    Great content, I believe in German technology especially cars🏆. I only use Shell Rimula X 15W40 diesel oil in all my 4 wheeled vehicles petrol and diesel fuel. The molecular structure has a Total Base Number for and it has a particular high TBN per molecule. And the diesel oil has a very good anti-carbon cleaning properties and you know a diesel has a much higher combustion pressure and a petrol engine will only touch on the numbers of a diesel engine.

    • @GreasyFingers
      @GreasyFingers  Před 2 lety +1

      Hallo Christian!
      Walter hat den Farbcode L80K.
      Wenn Du das ganze Auto lackieren lässt, treffen die Datenbanken der Farbhersteller die Töne eigentlich sehr gut. Schwieriger wird’s, wenn man beilackiert oder nur einzelne Deckel oder Kotflügel lackiert, denn jedes Auto hat durch seine Geschichte einen speziellen Grad des Ausbleichens.
      Aber selbst da hättest Du mit einer Uni-Farbe gute Karten. Der Lackierer muss sich nur die Mühe machen, vorab ein paar Farbkarten in unterschiedlichen Facetten zu lackieren und mit dem Auto abzugleichen. Gute Farbhersteller bieten jeden Ton in mehreren Feinabstufungen an.

    "The brake lines are bended while the brake disc escapes from the caliper......this is happening a million times a day in workshops.......that still doesn't make it right".
    Yes, it's right. The brake lines are "bended" every time the wheel is turned, or the suspension goes up & down. Front and rear. That's why brake lines terminate to flexible brake HOSES, right at the caliper.
    Lastly....you're not a craftsman, you're someone that suffers from OCD. Your work and the cars are fantastic, but let's not kid ourselves about where these things come from.

    • @GreasyFingers
      @GreasyFingers  Před 2 lety +1

      I don’t think so. The part of the brake lines I’m talking about go from the wheel carrier to the calliper which means they’re not bended when there’s wheel lift. Otherwise they would immediately brake. The wheel lift, obviously, is bridged by flexible brake lines.
      If you tend to make aggressive comments, you should at least be halfway competent enough to express any opinion at all.

    Most men who have older P-cars, and I would say in general all cars, use a female name for their cars. I haven’t met a woman driver who calls their car a male name. Here you have a male and a female car.
    Your car’s name is Walter. My car’s name is Black Magic because it is. Black exterior, interior and rims. Our state car license plate carries the name also. Magic because it is. It came to me without any paper work -no Porsche paper trail of how it was treated, what was done to it. I know it sat outside in the New York area where he came from for a long while. It started up the day he arrived in Oregon in the enclosed trailer from New York. I guess if I really think about it, Black Magic doesn’t have a male or a female car name - it is genderless. The name is a statement and it lives up to that statement and more; I kid you not! I only have time for one great car so there are not any other great cars in our 3 car garage. No jealousy in the garage as the other two cars do what those cars are for.
    Now back to your video
    - fine looking drawings, I will take a look at the T-shirts
    -I hear “Them” playing in your shop...good old tunes
    - Kylie Minogue’s music seems a mix of Asian and rock listening to it in your garage- me wrong. She is a female singer sounding somewhat like a teenage girl but she is a real woman if you know what I mean. I am listening to her now singing the song “Do you believe in Magic”...of course I do Kylie... my car IS BLACK MAGIC.
    “A garage without a Porsche is just a dark hole” - Walter Rohrl - Porsche Development

      Hello again, Jim. You’re right about the female names for cars. I guess, Germany is a bit of a exception in this field, as cars are generally male in our language, likely resulting from „der Wagen“. In correct German one would even have to say „der Alfa Giulia“ (male) which, however, I find rude.
      Walter, by the way, was named after Walter Röhrl who had his 70th birthday at the day when I first met him (her).
