As you say it is unneccesary to use PTFE tape on the compression joint threads. PTFE is for use in threaded pipe joints where the PTFE is pressed into the joint. It replaces the ‘old’ method of horsehair and plumber’s mate paste designed to seal the threads of the joint. However it is also inappropriate to add PTFE tape to the olive to reconnect the compression joint. The seal in these joints is made by the compression of the olive in between the two conical surfaces of the valve body and the compression nut. Thoroughly clean the conical mating surfaces of the valve body and the compression nut and use a NEW olive if the original is damaged. However, typically when you remove a valve from the existing pipework the olive will have pinched the copper pipe it is attached to and capture the nut on either side. These connections can be reused without disassembling the olive if the conical nut surface and olive are in reasonable condition. The compression joint will not leak if the nuts are correctly tightened.
please link a gate valve spindle and gate valve replacement item number, model, etc I cant find a replacement anywhere on amazon or google or homedepot etc
Now try that on a valve that’s 25 years old, corroded and hasn’t been on in 10 of those years. Anyone can take apart a nice shiny brass valve that’s virtually new.
All you did is take it apart and put it back together. And it looked like you may have tightened that packing nut too tight, besides the point though. This could have been interesting if you took apart an old one and showed how you clean all up and then put it back together.
You say "anti-clockwise direction" when you are removing the gate, but you are spinning the gate clockwise in the video. So you misspoke or your video is flipped horizontally...
literally, this is stuff that a gifted 3 year old boy likes to do. Not sure what good an instructional video is good for if you're not really going to clean or fix anything while it's in pieces
Very obvious you have no plumbing or heating qualifications. Please be conscientious and careful of what you pass on through youtube as a tiny bit of knowledge can be very dangerous. Your next plumbing video should start with "I am not a qualified plumber and i learned my SKILLS on youtube"
Even though I am experienced it’s always good to go back to the basics to refresh. good video. Would love to see more since you explain it so well.

Very true, also this person makes no mention of this valve having gland packing which prevents water from leaking out of the stem of the .valve.

Always wondered what the internals were like . Question , Why do they jam ?
A buildup of limescale and dirt are the main reasons these valves jam
@@expedition320 Old ones are greased, so the grease wears away with time.
what can i use to descale a gate valve once it is removed? can kettle descaler be used with brass?
I'm not to sure, some descales can be very hard and could damage the brass.
@@expedition320 i used hot vinegar it appeared to remove scale but valve was still jammed
You may need to get a new valve unfortunately unless it can be unjammed.
