- Both homeowners and property owners frequently misuse, and do not understand the proper operation of the various water line valve types. There are three types of main control valves for water lines: brass gate, ball, and OS&Y, water main valves. These three types of water line valves are each made with different purposes in mind. One very common question this video answers is the difference between a gate valve vs ball valve. To learn more please visit www.balkanplumbing.com/water-m.... Water valves are manufactured in different styles, and a variety of sizes. Valves are also manufactured to different quality levels, and tolerances as well. For instance, because OS&Y valves are intended for fire protection systems, they must be UL-rated. UL stands for United Underwriters Laboratories, an internationally recognized testing facility.
Water main valves that are installed using the incorrect style or size can be a code violation, pose a fire hazard, or result in a decrease in the supply of water to a building. In addition, misusing them can result in needless and costly repairs. The Balkan CZcams channel is devoted to answering your questions and informing you. Great info!!! Thank you so much!
Helpful video. Thanks buddy!
Great video thanks
Great video, thanks for the information.
I am working on a bathroom and coming in from the street there is, in short succession, a ball valve and then a dial of some type which i think
is a pressure regulator and then a gate valve.
I could not turn the gate valve to shut off water to the shower.
The ball valve handle seemed to be backed off some because it could slip past the stop on the valve body and turn
completely.
Did i damage the valve turning it 360 degrees?
It shuts the water off in the quarter turn position but not completely with a slow drip.
Can i tighten the nut on the handle so it does not spin past the quarter turn position?
I am afraid as there is no valve upstream from it inside the house.
Simply put, sometimes you should call a plumber. This is one of those times!
