This studio performance was by FAR the best Goyte and Kimbra have sounded on this song....especially Kimbra with her powerful and spot on harmony! Very well done!
And Gotye's raw vocals having slightly more of a rough tone on the higher notes is amazing. It's more polished in the official release, but live it's far more natural to me and I love it.
@@DB-ko6nb doing basic auto tune is industry standard. This is produced by a major studio, it has auto tune. Auto tune doesn't mean that it sounds like a robot, auto tune is a tool that pulls notes sharper or flatter based on the tools settings. She's flat a lot in the behind the scenes/cell phone footage, but not as much or pitch perfect in the final edited versions. They definitely 100% without a doubt used a degree of auto tune. If only because it's completely industry standard and this was recorded in an industry standard studio.
I think many of us can say that listening to them is addictive. Perfect together. Their voices and the emotions felt are so haunting, digs deep into the soul.
You might want to re-read my comment. They are both great singers. "Some" vocalist, will use their hands to guide them mentally & vocally. It's a rather useful technique for some singers. 🥂
Wh- What do you mean telling the other commenter to re-read the initial post... Not once did you say some. You said, and I quote, "True singers... will always use their hands to conduct their own voice!" You never said "some", you flat out made a comment saying you're basically not a true singer if you do not conduct your own voice. I understand (or hope) you meant the best in your comment, but imagine someone aspiring to be a singer or IS a singer reads that initial post and reads it blatantly. It could shater their confidence or make them think they have to do motions like that to be seen as a "True singer".
This song is sooo good that even though my heart complaints why there are not more like this from these two but deep down inside I never get bored of this song especially after learning everything about Gotye and Kimbra, making of this song and the aftermath. Gotye is the truest artist I have came to know in this era.
The fact that a person, who's chosen profession is singing, is actually capable of singing, and for that to be a particularly noteworthy thing, says a lot about the state of the art today
I would say the majority of pop artists can still sing but it's just that modern pop production is so overloaded with effects and stage trickery it is hard for an artist to really keep up with it live. And let's be honest, every modern pop album is autotuned and voices smoothened out to the point no natural voice could live up to it and then when an artist sings live they get torn to shreds for not sounding like the record.... Also, the current aesthetic is whisper voices, baby voices and fragile vocals, which are hard to do convincingly without technical aids.
Something so hypnotic about these 2. Perfect symphony. I cud listen to this song all day. They both have phenomenal voices n their passion shines through so clear. ❤
@@insideeffect6964I disagree. I think the two sound very similar to the point that the original and the autotuned version have very little differences. I think they can sing fine.

There's a reason why that's usually true that the studio version is a lot better than any live version; you can mix and match and sort and find the best parts of 10 different takes and put them together. Look up how The Allman Brothers producer Tom Dowd put together the live version of In Memory of Elizabeth Reed live at the Fillmore. He stitched stuff together from several of the performances they did when they were at the Fillmore. So so basically in the studio you can do more than one take and save the best parts and you can have a dynamite producer who can do it all for you in terms of the mixing Etc. Tom Dowd along with Alan Parsons are probably among the finest producers ever to walk the surface of this Earth.
Singing is a subset of acting. It's acting to music. Otherwise people who are famous and have to play some of the same music for 40 years live in concert can still do it with the same feeling and emotion that they did when they first recorded it. This in no way denigrates what they do I am actually praising them for being able to do that and giving people the same experience 40 years down the road that they gave a one year after it was recorded
