That's the Nut Tree. I learned to fly at the old Travis Aero Club and kept my first airplane tied down at the Nut Tree 35 years ago. I recognized the hills when you were taxiing out! Cool video. Watch out for C-5s and C-17s. (they're are hard to miss)
Awesome flight Chris. I am in the process of mounting my instrument panel on the airframe. Once that is completed, it's on to start my engine... I am close to the finish line but not close enough... Blue Skies...
Hi Chris. I just bought a KR2 built by Dick Koehler. Are you still flying in the Bay Area (Nut Tree)? If ever you had free time I would love to come up and have a look at your KR. I am in San Carlos (KSQL).
I got used to it on the first flight. Very light on the elevator. I had a few PIOs right after takeoff and that was it. It took a lot longer to master the perfect landing but that's just me being picky.
Cool video, that looks allot like an airport I know. Are you still flying the KR? Sure would be neat to come by and visit you one day…I used to race Corvairs and have always liked that engine.
Mine is the 18% tapered to 15%. The files are available on krnet.org. My tail surfaces are Mark Langford's. I did not lengthen my horizontal. My fuselage is an additional 14" bay longer than the KR-2S. I believe everything else is pretty much standard construction.
Absolutely worth it. I have an airplane that is fun to fly, cheap to operate and it keeps me motivated to learn something. I've already started building another airplane. You have to be prepared for making mistakes and getting frustrated but words cannot explain the feeling when you finish and fly your own creation.
@@vr6chrisvw ah cool, I have a 250 so there’s a soft spot in my heart for all Comanches. I’ve been trying to come up with a fun airplane to build, particularly with the corvair power plant. Since Saberwings are getting pricey, a Panther or Sonex might be in the future. I subscribed so look forward to more videos!
@@vr6chrisvw Very cool! Out of Travis? I work for one of the ACMI carriers and get in there once in a while. Congrats again on another successful flight!

Nice job on the build
That Corvair sounds awesome!!
Sounds like a true HOT ROD! Very nicely done Chris!
Thanks for posting!!

NICE PLANE! GOOD JOB! 🙂👍
Sweet bird and nice video! Noticed your Stratux...I've got one just like it.
Nice!👏🏻👏🏻

Yes! I still have my plane at Nut Tree. You are welcome anytime.
Chris, I was wanting to know how the engine is working?, I have a KR2S with a turbo engine like yours,i have alot questions for you inspire us all.
Working great so far. About to hit 200 hrs on the hobbs. Oil analysis shows nothing abnormal.
bro that airport . you gona use all ya gas just gettting to the runway .. lol
Was the transition the the KR difficult?

Hello! First things, first: congrats! Jaja. Wich is the engine on this aircraft?
3.0 Chevy Corvair

I fly it as much as I can. I've been working on prep for the flight to Oshkosh. You are welcome to visit anytime. I fly out of KVCB.
@@vr6chrisvw yes, I live in that town and have flown many times from there. When would be a good time to come out?
Shoot me am email at vr6chrisvw@gmail.com. We can connect and figure something out.
Thank you for your support in making this. A few questions if I may; which air foil did you use and what modifications have you made?

@@vr6chrisvw Interesting. Was this your first build ever?
Yes. It was a huge learning experience.
@@vr6chrisvw I keep playing with the idea of building this but then I ask myself am I crazy? Was it worth it?

Dear, How fast did you play on the track? 60miles? Does your aircraft have a FLAP?
I have a belly board speed brake with an electronic actuator.
@@vr6chrisvw Oh, great the Belly Board, it triggered on landing at what speed does it touch the runway? 60Kt?
I land around 70-75 mph. Any slower and the tail hits first.
@@vr6chrisvw okay Chris, Very nice
Awesome airplane and I love that smooth corvair! Do you own a PA30 as well?
No, that is my buddies. We share a hangar.

@@gmonnig Stay away from anything Azalea Aviation. That man is a crook.
Congratulations on the video, is there a doubt that this plane has a wooden structure?
Wooden fuselage and spars. The rest is composite.
@@vr6chrisvw great airplane
Glad to see you got the whole upload in. That engine sounds so sweet!!! You mentioned Jumbos... do you fly them for work?
Yeah, I'm a KC-10 pilot.
