- Brutal MTB crash gave me concussion after face planting down a huge stair set gap jump line in Gran Canaria on my first urban freeride mission with the Canyon Spectral enduro bike! Could you have continued riding?
The second day of my Canyon sponsorship announcement trip in Gran Canaria started with the heaviest slam ever that was enough to make my balance off and give me a solid headache all day, concussion really sucks! After a little rest I decided to push through and continue riding because I was just too excited to be riding my new Spectral enduro bike. After moving on from the crash site I found a huge 700 steps stair set that led its way down through the town of puerto rico and the constant rattling definitely didn't feel that good with concussion! From here we came across a fun little skate park where I landed some of the first tricks on the spectral before heading to some MTB trails! This bike really does feel amazing and inspired confidence right from the get go. We were able to finish the video off on the beach of the english on the famous sand dunes!

@@tarstarkusz plus if you hurry back onto the bike, especially "adrenaline" riding, your brain remains in short memory protective state instead of switching to recovery phase.. my neurologist explained it to me after I had a real bad concussion a few years ago and I rushed back into riding and felt issues for the next months.. just because I thought I was ok when I wasn't..

Sam please don’t ever feel pressured to finish a video, nobody would blame you for stopping the video after that fall
I was questioning him getting back on and manual afterward, but I think that is just him and not for the show - obviously he was okay enough to do that crazy stair set going flat out later . Also stopping right after a crash can mess up confidence.
@@h82fail Should have at least swapped out a new helmet though. Having a second slam like that on a compromised helmet after already getting concussed in the same day would have been bad news.
Wow, take it easy after that slam. We love you Sam and we all need you to be healthy. Painful to even watch but that smile you flash about one minute after taking that impact is impressive.
It’s just plain stupid and irresponsible to keep riding and exponentially more so to post to CZcams and celebrate that you ignored concussion symptoms
@@dgornowicz8417 Yeah any potential follow up hit on the head will leave you with permanent damage. That's the main reason of brain injury in sports: ignored concussions and follow up hits.
I sense a little more pressure on Sam's shoulders and feel that he's pushing himself just a little too much to make sure his new sponsors, and us, are happy. Just remember Sam, you don't even need to try bud. Much love from Ireland!

Yeah, somebody needs to take concussion training. You definitely should not get back on the bike and keep going until a doc has checked you out.

Bro your helmet has to be toast. My dad had a simmilar crash on a flow track where he broke his collarbone and some ribs.
Concussions are no joke. You need to give your brain time to recover, lots of rest and no riding for at least 2 weeks. Brain trauma can sometimes take a couple of days to show up. Take it easy man.
I was not whering a helmet and going full speed on down a hill pavement turn there was a wall that goes around bend with offset bricks sticking out clipped my grip end and went head first my melon went splack i was met with stars flashing lighs fucked me up for months iam never not useing my helmet agin i could have die lucky to be ok only a little brain damage not much stay safe

Bro I know you are a pro and used to getting right back up and keep riding but if you get concussed you really need to hold off on the risky riding till you have recovered. If you don't rest up you could prolong your recovery time a lot longer; post-concussion syndrome sucks! Thanks for the epic content as always and heal quickly!
Loving your content, talent and hard work. As a worker in the MTB industry, I feel like the way your crash was handled was dangerous considering your position. Concussions can be severe and have lasting negative effects. I totally understand it's part of the game to get hurt, but calling it a concussion and just getting on with the riding without explaination on your choice or aknowledging the risks of these injuries sends a dangerous message. Do we want kids and teenagers learning that hitting your head hard and keeping on riding without being checked out is the way to go? As I was saying I'm a huge fan, your hard work and talent are an inspiration. Hope you're well.
Absolutely this. This was the first time I've given one of his videos a thumbs down, because he's setting a very bad example. I understand he made bad decisions immediately after being concussed, because of the head injury itself, but to then edit and upload the video with zero disclaimers, is irresponsible.
Concussion isn't a problem. He doesn't need his brain in life. No rocket scientist, this one. He just needs clicks.
This slip out was like one of my biggest slams too, bike slid out and i smashed face first into the pavement. Puked. Sure slowed me down for while, can't take too many dings to the melon dude be careful!

Hope you're doing ok! Great video, but always sorry to see you get hurt. And anyone who doesn't take calculated risks for work should probably call it a day, perhaps get checked out and get a new helmet after a crash like that.
Riding after admitting you have a concussion is not a calculated risk, it's dumb..

After years of extreme sports and circus nothing has affected me longer or worse than a serious concussion! I can't say I wouldn't get back on the bike but after my recent accident I'd definitely think twice! Take it easy and stay safe! Love your content!

After a crash like this I'd take a break for a week at least, take care of yourself and let you body recover 😉. Enjoy in Canarias and relax. And I'd probably replace the helmet as well; I also look for MIPS on all my helmets, road or MTB. But seriously your health comes first.
