I don't think they are really Amish (or likely they drifted away from the community a long time ago), because of the way they talk. It's unlikely that someone who hasn't seen a TV in his life would use modern slang like "whoa this is awesome", "freaking movie star" or "freak out".
Also, how did the show producers find them? I don't think you may find participants simply arriving into a community famous for being ultra-orthodox and offering some random people to take part in a forbidden activity.
+Julius Bernotas none of them are ever straight out of the Amish life. They have lived outside for years before they come on this show, and then they pretend like everything is brand new. It would be impossible for the producers to basically just lurk around an Amish community preying on them asking them to join a tv show. They don't look for Amish people, they look for people that used to be Amish. The blond girl for example clearly had highlights before the makeover started.

It states very clearly on the wiki page that they have all been removed from the Amish community for a while. As Butterflee said, it would be next to impossible to get people fresh out of the community. How would you even recruit people like that?
It's Rumspringa I live in Lancaster County PA and Amish surround me in our rural areas , I run into and are friends with any amish teens 2 of which had stayed at my home during rumspringa.
The Amish have something like a month out of the community, when they are young, to experience the outside world and decide if they want to be amish forever

Agreed, when they simpley just let that blonde girls hair down naturally with out the make up she was simply stunning. Not only did the make up make them look plastic, but the make up artist was at least 95% to blame by doing a horrible job

I think this is so sad. I'm a Christian teen who loves God but I wears eyeliner, contour, etc. You can be a devoted Christian and still have fun looking your best.

not trying to be rude.... but.. they really overdid their hair and makeup, like ok, I have salon curled hair and auburn highlights, I don't wear makeup. The one time I did wear makeup for a photoshoot I had mascara and black eyeshadow, which was great but not enough to make me unrecognizable, the mascara is really too thick, for them. They could have just done a simple cut and style, with some mascara, the amount that people would usually wear to school or work. Yes, I agree they look kinda slutty.
