He did a PhD at 24, he is a researcher at a top university,he has had many of his papers published, he has a normal life with a wife and friends despite everything she did to him and somehow this is the reason she is proud of him 😡
so the chosen one does not get it😃

Well of course that’s impressive to you ( to most of us) because you and most, if not all, people you know are very far away from achieving anything of that level of academic impressiveness, but you have to understand for Leonard’s mother that’s literally what’s expected of him and nothing less. It’s not that she’s an awful mother, you’re just looking at her through your own eyes and mindset. Anyone can seem like a monster if you take them out of context and misunderstand who they are and what they do. 🤷🏻♂️

Leonard lives with Sheldon, his academic accomplishments look 2nd tier by default (that and Beverly favors Sheldon over him) not to mention iirc that Leonard's work is mostly doing what others have already done (to see of the result will be consistent or not) so it's not as impressive. Stephen Hawking did praise his work once but it's a collaborative effort with Sheldon.

Everyone deserves a better mother than Leonard's mother.
The problem is Leonard is the most well adjusted and normal person in the group, so his mom did a great job

@@War-child_ Nah, man. The fact that Leonard turned even remotely okay (and this is relative, because the man has deeprooted mental issues and problems) is in SPITE of his mother, not BECAUSE of her.
She doesn't get to take credit for his accomplishments. In fact, the one decent thing she keeps saying to Leonard is that he should learn how to be proud of himself when he accomplishes something. Ofcourse, this is usually followed by a derogatory remark, so we're right back to terrible mother territory, but fact of the matter remains that you will find very few people who will agree that Beverly did a great job with him. She was a terrible mother to him.

@@War-child_ well many abusive parents also have children who turn out to be great(David Goggins), but that doesn't mean they were good parents in any way.
I know that the compliments were for Penny but I’m glad that Beverly can be proud of Leonard through her. In Bev’s own way she is truly proud of Leonard.
I just came back from the skit of Leonard leaving for sea while Sheldon is being a pain in the arse. This guy had insane amount of patience dealing with Beverly and then Sheldon throughout his life.
I sometimes think Leonard's mother unintentionally conditioned him to be drawn to emotionally distant, judgemental people, despite how unhappy that made him.
I think Beverly is so impressed by Penny because of how she shows up for the people in her life, but especially by show she shows up for Leonard. Even before they were married and were very on and off, Beverly always had a fondness for Penny.
She also is likely researching the in laws relationships to her children, aswell as her own, for her books, has noticed patterns in how each relationship works and is genuinely impressed not only by Leonards choice in partner, but how deep and loving their relationship is even when they arent physically together.
She sees genuine respect in their relationship, which by the subcontext of this conversation, Leonards siblings may not have in their marriages.

She definitely disconnects from her emotions, she doesn’t make everything about herself so we can rule out narcissist. They are attention grabbing mongrels with gaslight others to gain control. Sociopath is a possibility, no empathy to understand how some of her actions can affect others and if explained she cares little.
Have to admit the lack of emotional involvement would make her work easier to diagnose without getting too involved, she has the keen in observing others that’s ideal in her line of work. Unfortunately that makes her not easier to get along with, nor experience the process of bonding that the average person naturally knows how too. However, I am no psychologist so I’m not the person capable to diagnose her or others. Just happen to study narcissists with a touch of sociopaths. Plus this is a comedy that makes for some laughs.
I always find it eerie how much that woman looks like my mother only taller. Nothing alike, but the appearance is close enough to make me uncomfortable lol 😂

Can I recommend something to you where he does EXACTLY THAT, and Penny even threatens her with a bat and her Nebraskan upbringing, threatening to “go all Nebraska”, on her? It’s satisfying and as a bonus, Leonard and Penny INDIRECTLY ruin her career as a psychiatrist. It’s SUPER satisfying.

@@flyhylandIt was a stupid joke because the writers are on drugs, are lazy, and Chuck Lorre is a terrible man and doesn’t know the first thing about relationships/marriages or even how to write ANYTHING that’s truly funny. The shows last four seasons were GARBAGE, and they ruined it. It was unfunny, misogynistic, sexist, racist, and misandristic.
That is possibly one of the sweetest compliments he got from his mother, it might not be about his attributes yet she admires he was able to have a partner who has qualities that are endearing. She saw he was worthy of someone with those characteristics that valued him.
To those in the comment that say otherwise, Beverly says so, if you have an issue with that take it out on her! I’m just admiring how she’s proud of Leonard for finding the company that she approves of.
