I use to watch Dr. Who in the very beginning in the sixties and I’m horrified with what they’ve done with the programme. It’s entertainment not a preaching forum.

As a child, Dr who would frequently scare me into hiding behind the sofa. All it took was the appearance of a Darlek or a Cyberman usually accompanied by a single stark note of music chilling. It's hard to imagine that now, though. The show is more disturbing than frightening or even entertaining.
The show has become all about pushing "The Message" and entertainment comes as an afterthought if at all.
It's simply become a vehicle for perverts to indoctrinate our children.

Been a doctor who fan for almost forty years ever since I was four and read the novelization of the 3 doctors, to which I was introduced by my dad!
When I was seven, I suffered a massive expulsive haemorrhage in my right eye and lost most of my eyesight. The thing I remember most was a huge blue Tardis display in the hospital, something I could still see and touch.
I watched most of the classic series, have met at least a couple of the classic actors such as Colin baker, collected a good number of the big finish audio plays, enjoyed the revival under Christopher ecleston and David tenant.
One of the highlights of getting my own phd, is that I too could finally be like "the doctor!"
My interest fell off when Moffat was producer, but I still collected the audio dramas and followed the series, hoping the writing would improve and enjoying the odd diamond in the rough.
After Jody Witicker lectured the audience about trump, declared that being female was an upgrade and finally Retconned William Hartnal out of existence as the first doctor, I had already considered myself out!
Now however with space babies, snot monsters, the beetles reduced to childishness, a twirking doctor in a skirt, active misandry and racism, infinite amounts of preaching, and hatred levelled at me for the way I was born, I'm actually wanting this to be cancelled!
Could a female doctor, or a gay doctor have worked in the past? Maybe, if the lore was respected and the character still shown to be the doctor, but the writing, the emphasis, the dignity, and hell just the use of basic story telling logic just isn't there anymore.

Great comment! I was not a fan in the OG days, but I watched some in the late 80s and 90s. I have to say that, past that I could see the writing on the wall. And now it's just straight-up garbage. They have totally lost the plot, Doctor Who now resembles a live-action cartoon for pre-schoolers about the birds and the bees from the 70s, trying to be an edgy Netflix series from the late 2000s. It just does not work.
The best thing that could happen to it now, is cancellation like you said - then they could revive it later when the politics have gone back to something more sensible. I mean if you're going to make extremist politics your main plot device, at least make them extremes the audience relate to. I feel like the people who relate to Doctor Who today, are literal terrorists and dysfunctional mental patients who never been outside. Absolute tragedy.
@DailyCorvid It's odd, I've seen a few people defending this drek with the excuse: "doctor who has always changed, you just don't like change!" Yet, in the past I've enjoyed so many different eras. I was born in 1982, so I really only started watching after the series was cancelled, yet I've enjoyed episodes going right back to the costume drama of the 1960's, to the third doctor in the seventies where the show almost became James bond, to the slick, cheesy eighties! I've enjoyed everything from Big finish short trips, which can be the most arty of artistic fiction, to the gritty world of Torchwood (including its audio continuity), to simple morality tales from new who. Heck I'm one of the few people who really liked the Big finish fourtieth aniversary Zagreus and the subsequent divergent universe arc.
Obviously, there have always been misses among the hits, but even the misses weren’t due to fundamental problems in the very thinking of the writers, just trying things that didn’t’ work.
that's the thing I love most about doctor who, that for all its lore and complexity, it is still the one scifi universe that can really go anywhere and do anything! from horror to hard sf, to historical, to character study!
Yet, I've been feeling increasingly disconnected from new who. From David Bradley in Peter Capaldy's regeneration story playing a far more cartoonishly sexist first Doctor than the actual first doctor from the sixties; he never once told his female companions to clean his tardis or made disparaging remarks about women. To even the audios, where; in a 9th doctor series, Ecleston goes back to meet a first world war nurse in 1917, just so he could deliver a lecture about how men cause wars, so women need to be in charge to prevent them! Jody Witicker and her twisted morality was bad enough (leaving spiders to die, treating Graham's cancer as a joke), but this is, as you said, literal insanity, , and not usually even indorsed by the so called "minorities", these idiots claim to speak for. Indeed, as a disabled person myself, who wrote an entire doctoral thesis on disability, and as a massive Doctor who fan, I certainly want to correct Davies idiocy about removing Davros from his half dalek life support system! So fully agree, the hole series needs to be cancelled, and the universe reset! If not with an actual retcon, at least with a hard full stop (doctor who has always been good at swerving away from bad directions in the past, like the half human doctor from the 1996 Tv movie). Cancel the series, stop all production, and continue in ten years when, hopefully the woke mind virus has burned itself out and sanity has prevailed!

For me Dr Who, ended with Sylvester McCoy, in 1989, my first time watching Dr Who was Jon Pertwee, as I was born in 1966, and ofcourse the two Peter Cushing pictures.

Ive been re-watching classic british comedy shows for a few years now because realism and good writing has been replaced by anyone but men who represents me. Weve had to watch classic characters be replaced with female counterparts and diverse casting just for the sake of it. So many great shows i will never watch again 😢

Dr Who used to have no 'sexuality' which was how come, in a world that was still quite prudish, he could travel time with a female sidekick without anyone raising an eyebrow.
