    Ahhhh, I remember this...the "April Fools" episode of "Jeopardy" on April 1, 1997 where Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek swapped hosts of their game shows....

    Pat Sajak , Alex Trebek, Vanna White and Johnny Gilbert epitomized class, tasteful humor and genuine positivity. Wish I would have accepted the invitation to be in Jeopardy when given the chance. Miyam is decent, cool that Jennings is a producer, would have liked to see Lavar Burton as a host and curious to see if Aaron Rodgers will further his resume with some more appearances. When Pat's and Vanna's run is up, it will be a strange time in game show history. Last of a dying breed.

    That pop up dollar value sound effect was one of the last things that kept Jeopardy! authentic. Sure sucks to see it gone now.

      @@212Elevators He also wasn't a fan of the new Jeopardy, at least circa 1989, thought it too easy. Whether he viewed it that way by 1995 I'm not sure, the show itself grew a lot over that time, so maybe his view shifted too. But hard to say for sure. In any case, with that it's tough to say if he woulda hosted/been asked to in 1997 had he been alive and able to do so capably.

    @Boom12 , I asked him "Of all the game shows you've done besides 'Jeopardy!', which one is your favorite?" His answer: "To Tell the Truth". He said it's one of the few game shows he did that allowed him to sit down.

    They should have stuck with the old intro this season. Dark set, murmuring audience, swooshing noise, ball girdling the "Jeopardy!" logo and Johnny Gilbert intoning "This is Jeopardy!", then the ball exploding with the set lighting up and the theme music playing.

    @Boom12 , I had a blast doing the show. Met a lot of great people, including the man who beat me. The only bad part is, I didn't get to do a whole lot of exploring around Los Angeles. It's a huge city.

    @Boom12, I was a contestant on "Jeopardy!" this season, and I can tell you that the ding-dong-ding-dong sound you hear, as the dollar values come up, don't get played on the set. We watched the numbers come up in utter silence.

    @PopcornLukey You see this episode was from April Fools Day, so for this one, Pat and Alex switched positions for the day. Alex hosted that night's Wheel of Fortune, and so Pat of course hosted that night's Jeopardy.

      +Eric Vela I never forgot that day! I've heard that few other times when Pat was unable to host WOF, Alex filled in for him. Well, if that's true, Alex wouldn't be hard to get a hold of since Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune are next door neighbors.

    @Boom12, sure thing...It is kinda weird, though, because every other sound you hear at home, we got to hear in the studio - except when we were standing with Alex at the end of the show...The applause at the end is real, but they add it in post-production. We each got to ask Alex a question, and the studio was very quiet.

    Now Idk if y’all local stations did this as a joke on April Fool’s Day 1997, but our local affiliate station WAFF-TV Channel 48 in Huntsville, AL did the same thing in honor of both Wheel & Jeopardy switching hosts. They switched the sports anchor to do the weather and the weatherman did sports. I thought that was a special moment

      rowlandmartin85 meanwhile Pat played against Vanna with all the money going to charity. They just split it 50/50 probably because Pat won in a blowout, I'm guessing Alex declined at the chance to play Jeopardy.
