Ahhhh, I remember this...the "April Fools" episode of "Jeopardy" on April 1, 1997 where Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek swapped hosts of their game shows....
Pat Sajak , Alex Trebek, Vanna White and Johnny Gilbert epitomized class, tasteful humor and genuine positivity. Wish I would have accepted the invitation to be in Jeopardy when given the chance. Miyam is decent, cool that Jennings is a producer, would have liked to see Lavar Burton as a host and curious to see if Aaron Rodgers will further his resume with some more appearances. When Pat's and Vanna's run is up, it will be a strange time in game show history. Last of a dying breed.
@@212Elevators He also wasn't a fan of the new Jeopardy, at least circa 1989, thought it too easy. Whether he viewed it that way by 1995 I'm not sure, the show itself grew a lot over that time, so maybe his view shifted too. But hard to say for sure. In any case, with that it's tough to say if he woulda hosted/been asked to in 1997 had he been alive and able to do so capably.
A rare peak into the bizarro universe where everything is backwards; cats chase dogs, rain falls upwards, Al Gore won the 2000 election, and Pat Sajack is the regular host of Jeopardy.
@Boom12 , I asked him "Of all the game shows you've done besides 'Jeopardy!', which one is your favorite?" His answer: "To Tell the Truth". He said it's one of the few game shows he did that allowed him to sit down.
I just want to throw this out just for fun...we've been seeing a lot of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" people hosting game shows... Wouldn't it be nice if Ryan Stiles hosted Jeopardy?
They should have stuck with the old intro this season. Dark set, murmuring audience, swooshing noise, ball girdling the "Jeopardy!" logo and Johnny Gilbert intoning "This is Jeopardy!", then the ball exploding with the set lighting up and the theme music playing.
@Boom12 , I had a blast doing the show. Met a lot of great people, including the man who beat me. The only bad part is, I didn't get to do a whole lot of exploring around Los Angeles. It's a huge city.
@Boom12, I was a contestant on "Jeopardy!" this season, and I can tell you that the ding-dong-ding-dong sound you hear, as the dollar values come up, don't get played on the set. We watched the numbers come up in utter silence.
@PopcornLukey You see this episode was from April Fools Day, so for this one, Pat and Alex switched positions for the day. Alex hosted that night's Wheel of Fortune, and so Pat of course hosted that night's Jeopardy.
+Eric Vela I never forgot that day! I've heard that few other times when Pat was unable to host WOF, Alex filled in for him. Well, if that's true, Alex wouldn't be hard to get a hold of since Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune are next door neighbors.
@Boom12, sure thing...It is kinda weird, though, because every other sound you hear at home, we got to hear in the studio - except when we were standing with Alex at the end of the show...The applause at the end is real, but they add it in post-production. We each got to ask Alex a question, and the studio was very quiet.
@YankeePat94 I never thought of Pat Sajak appearing on The Price is Right but however I heard about Vanna White appearing on The Price is Right though.
Now Idk if y’all local stations did this as a joke on April Fool’s Day 1997, but our local affiliate station WAFF-TV Channel 48 in Huntsville, AL did the same thing in honor of both Wheel & Jeopardy switching hosts. They switched the sports anchor to do the weather and the weatherman did sports. I thought that was a special moment
@cag1970 hahaha. xD witty response there. I saw ur info, second place was a pretty good result. the categories u faced were pretty hard. but how did u feel with second place? think it was worth it?
rowlandmartin85 meanwhile Pat played against Vanna with all the money going to charity. They just split it 50/50 probably because Pat won in a blowout, I'm guessing Alex declined at the chance to play Jeopardy.
I think everybody April Fooled on that day. Even the comic cartoonists had switched places. Garfield's creator Jim Davis switched places with the people who wrote Blondie.
I love how Pat just moves into the show as if nothing is out of the ordinary
How did Ken Jennings become the Guest host of Jeopardy he moved to studio because Trebeck died after his pancreatic cancer
@@shirleynelson526 He didn't even get to say goodbye
Because he's a pro, and practiced this many many many times in front of Alex.
"And now the host of Jeopardy... PAT SAJAK!" *commences spit take*

So, in taping terms, Pat hosted the second show of the five shows taped that day (April 1, 1997 is a Tuesday)
The audience might be really in shock to see Pat after Alex finished hosting the first show tens of minutes ago.
I agree. That board fill sound always got me fired up and ready to play along with the show!
The returning champion, Paul actually looks a lot like Pat Sajack, you'd almost think they were related.
He's the alcoholic uncle of the family haha.
That pop up dollar value sound effect was one of the last things that kept Jeopardy! authentic. Sure sucks to see it gone now.

I'd like to see Drew Carey host J! as an April Fool's Joke someday... :D This was fun!
I suffered through both shows. Now I can say I remember it!
The theme doesn't just fit the set.
It's just...wow.

If he was alive. That would’ve been awesome
@Will N But that wouldn't be possible because Fleming died 2 years prior to the taping.

He and the other contestants were probably told in advance.
They really ought to bring that back. That, along with the 1984 theme or its 1991 remix, got you psyched up for playing.
They're doing it every night at 7 this week on ABC.
Heck yea....I always wanted to be there as a contestant and hear the sound, that would make my day even if I didn't win.
omg. i remenber this. i was 7 at the time when i saw this in a autozone shop. awsomwe video.
Talk about being Sajak-roll'd.
these kind of shows were always fun. It was cool seeing Pat on Jeopardy and Alex on Wheel of Fortune.
ayy lmao that first contestant XD
@FrenzyMedia - We know crazy. He became the champ that day
Actually, they stopped using it in 1996, when they got this set.

The April Fool's joke is that Pat Sajak is on the Jeopardy Game show
I wish they would do it again
Sadly, it won't with Sajak retiring and Trebek already dead...
This logo was also used in the SNL thing.
But I wanna see the whole episode!
Rockford Illinois I grew up not far from there
now I don't remember this episode I do remember the set......on that does anyone remember or have the old show Road to Riches?
That set debuted in 1991.
I think you're talking about the Grid Set (1991-96). This is the Sushi Bar Set (1996-2002).

Pat Sajak?
Did they ever have any episodes with the 1991 theme song and the 1997 set with Alex Trebek?
Yes, the "Sushi Bar" set premiered in 1996 during Celebrity Jeopardy and the 1997 theme debuted in the set's 2nd season, Jeopardy's 14th season.
I know that now.
paul looks scared
