      @@DisasterBreakdown I saw the word “movie,” in your pinned comment, and I thought maybe that was her channel members (well I’m subscribed, but I meant Patreon- which one of these days I hope to join) but until I saw this comment… and looked to see how long the video is… and saw that it was like probably double the longest one I’ve ever seen of yours, even after they doubled in time! That’s if I’m thinking of the right channel (there’s one other that covers the same topics generally speaking which I enjoy almost as much as yours so I might be confused about that. But I feel like they used to be like 12 or 13 minutes and then they doubled to more like a half hour.)
      It’s worth the wait for us regular subscribed folk and I wish it was a happier topic, but a good thing to shed light on and more fully inform those of us who aren’t really in the field but have interest in it. At least since finding yours and a couple of other channels.
      After watching some stuff about 911 around the anniversary That’s when CZcams started showing me everything planes. And now they just keep showing me because I keep watching. 😂

    The weird thing is I've flown on the MAX on Alaska and Southwest, but also understand the severity of the issue not just with the planes but Boeing as a whole now. The entire company needs a shakeup from the top to middle. I can't blame the workers, they're caught in a position they didn't want to be in.

    • @nyanbinary1717
      @nyanbinary1717 Před 5 měsíci +56

      I have it on, shall we say, extremely good authority that many MANY Boeing maintenance workers were either laid off or quit in the past few years, some due to COVID and some probably just general cost cutting. I'm sure this is just a microcosm of that shitshow. The workers being trained now are up against institutional hurdles that I empathize with. :/

      @@nyanbinary1717 you're not wrong. Before I stopped driving trucks I delivered to some of the Boeing facilities and it went from you know everyone you dealt with to a revolving door each week of people "not working out" and leaving. I got the vibe the ones who cared were ran out and the ones who just wanted a check remained. Hope they could turn it around but don't see it under the regime they have or the profits over people mentality that's rampant

    • @mboyer68
      @mboyer68 Před 5 měsíci +29

      If Boeing really lost or got rid of the employees who were trying to sound the alarm, that would be the biggest mistake I've ever heard a company making. I remember seeing a Boeing whistle blower talking about debris being left inside aircraft like aluminum drilling chips, tools, rivets, screws, nuts, washers, etc which bundles of wires would be in contact with buried deep within the planes. Things that normally aren't on a maintenance check list after a plane is delivered. I think we're not done with Boeing problems. I believe things left inside aircraft will start to cause problems with Boeing aircraft in the next 10 years as these wiring harnesses start to wear through at the points where they touch foreign objects deep within the aircraft. They're going to lose a few jets because of debris. And they lost a free great employees who complained about this issue. Oh Boeing, chasing profit destroyed you, very much destroyed you. What a shame. The thousands of employees who always did the right thing before must be so upset with the employees who did this. The managers or high up or whatever, probably not the low man on the totem pole.

This fact occurred during President Eisenhower's visit to Brazil and generated a lot of divergence between the Brazilian and American reports. So clarifying between the public's perception vs what pilots think (with all their skill and experience) was a great point I hadn't considered too much in the past. I live in the town building the 787, which had its manufacturing hiccups as it struggled to push technology in so many ways, but it's now a pretty solid aircraft. Even with the 787 being a notably good aircraft I still hear stories from the many locals building it that suggest eventual issues are inevitable. I personally really wish Boeing the greatest successes, as the health of that company is a serious consideration in the health of my city. However, I'm not particularly optimistic about Boeing's future.

    The comparison with the DC-10 is very apt. Both planes produced under McDonnell-Douglas execs cutting corners for money with a nasty reputation that turned out to not be that big a deal once the main issues got fixed, but still had everyone hyperfixated on it. Though, the Max hasn't had an engine fall off, or an engine blow up and destroy the flight controls, or almost crash in mid-air with a jumbo, or excrete a minor panel that didn't actually do anything to the plane but happened to blow up the next plane on takeoff sequence that day, which just so happened to be *Concorde*... Man, the DC-10 was cursed.

      @@michael-y8c At the time of the crash, MCAS was trimming the plane and pushing the nose down, regardless of pilot input. How is that not overriding the pilots?
      Regardless of the specifics in the crash, I was also referring to the fact that Boeing decided that MCAS did not need to be mentioned to the pilots and did not need to be in the manual. If it removes control from the pilot, changes how the plane is flying, and especially without any kind of notification that it is activating (because it doesn't seem like it had any kind of obvious visual or aural warning), then pilots NEED to be warned about it, and they were not.

    • @michael-y8c
      @michael-y8c Před 5 měsíci +2

      @sijplays918 Lionair flew that same plane for 3 weeks even after an incorrect repair, they put the aircraft back into revenue serivce knowing it had aoa problems . What good would it have been if mcas was in the manufacturer manual when they couldn't even follow standard operating procedures The problem with most of these videos is that they fail to mention the aircraft was lost due to control flight into terrain not from mcas. Mcas was corrected 28 times by the captain, trimming the plane with the trim tab. What mcas took out the captain put back in . For 11 minutes and 40 seconds, they had the plane under control. No take over no mayham no confusion although going very fast due to leaving engines to take off power another fault by the crew. If the problem was so bad, why the hell would you fly to a holding patten? Get that thing back on the ground. Lionair don't pay their pilots for not completing the flight. I guess the facts don't make a sexy story. Ethiopian crew were trained for mcas and still lost the aircraft. Also leaving engines to full power and failed standard operation procedures.

    • @sijplays918
      @sijplays918 Před 5 měsíci +5

      @@michael-y8c The trim being reset is still taking over from the pilot. It is still *taking over a function of the aircraft that the pilot expects to be within his control*. This would be like if your car suddenly starts veering to the left. Yeah sure, you can correct every time it does it, but it's still hardly an ideal way to drive the car, and if it was because of a system within said car, you'd probably be pretty pissed off if no one warned you about it.
      And the captain was not able to totally correct what the trim was doing - it eventually became too much to overcome because the trim angle had been set so far that even with the captain pulling up fully, it just could not cancel out the trim angle that MCAS had set it to.
      Also, adding it back to the manual would have given the pilots information that could have saved their lives. Another incident with MCAS was averted when the pilots turned off the automatic trim, which they new to do *because it had been in the manual,* but was removed.
      And CFIT is an *end result,* not a diagnosis. It is CFIT *due* to things like interference from MCAS and constantly having to correct it and try and figure out what is happening with your aircraft causing lack of situational awareness. Saying it was just due to CFIT is a bit like saying, "They died because their car ran into that wall." Technically true, but what CAUSED them to run into that wall? Were the roads slippery? Did their brakes fail? Did their power steering lock up and only allow them to go one direction?

    • @michael-y8c
      @michael-y8c Před 5 měsíci +2

      @sijplays918 Ethiopian crew knew about mcas did it save them ??? Cowboys that's all they were. Captain of lionair had enough control to bring the aircraft back to the airport not to a bloody holding patten. They forgot memory items stand operation procedures, putting mcas in the manual would have made no difference at all. Aircraft was lost when control was given to the first officer to till then captain had it undercontrol only problem is they left engine's to take off so did Ethiopian crew. Bloody cowboys they should have never been anyway near a cockpit. You are talking about an airline that has a history of crashing airplane an airline who not once but twice tries to and on a runway that was underconstruction clowns.
