- I bought this Bachmann Amtrak F40PH at Larkspur line train store in Merrickville. Although it runs, it's current draw is a little higher then it should be so today I wash and lubricate the pancake motor in an attempt to improve performance.

Good to see your keeping them in good condition SMT!
Very amazing video as always
Saw the word “pancake” and couldn’t click fast enough. Not entirely disappointed. Good job.
That looks really great I have a bachmann spectrum F40PH
Awesome video, Scrumptious! I got a Bachmann F unit yesterday from my grandparents and it actually has the exact clicking noise that you talked about here. I took the shell off and it is a pancake motor.
Nice
YES the Holy EMD F40PH
That’s awesome Harrison and have an awesome day
I love your vids like these its like a video instruction better than a normal thing love it and keep up the awesome job :)
Hi good job on the vids keep up the good work
That's a nice Amtrak locomotive, Harrison, and the price was right. Definately have to figure out that noise. What about the other non-powered truck, maybe put a little oil on those wheel sets as well. Squeaky wheel gets the oil. Also, let her run around the track a bit for a shakedown, maybe the squeal will work itself out. Make sure viewers know not to overtighten the screws, plastic threads strip easily. And too much torque it not good for the motor parts, that could cause binding, and cracked gears as well.
Thanks for sharing. 👍 👍 👍
I bought one of those at Allentown. The axle gears were cracked and the brushes fell apart when I opened it. Good thing I had another Bachman to use for parts. It runs good, but is noisy. Nice train SMT.
Your confidence is inspirational however that unit was running well enough for my road. My motto? If it ain't broke don't fix it.
I can’t believe that you got a Amtrak F40PH
Mmmmm. Pancakes.
Pretty cool video. LJL
Those Pancake style motors seem very simple to maintain. I thought they were impossible to fix. Wow, what a way to learn new things. Does that version need traction tires?
awesome!
Very interesting locomotive Harrison! I hope you get passenger cars with it someday and I agree don't put grease on the comitator itll create a smoke show on these ringpole motor engines and smoking is for steam engines.
I did a tune up on my Pennsylvania gg1 riverossi loco and did almost the same stuff you did for this Amtrak
nice
I havcab yo ne that exact locomotive but it is from life like. I'm thinking of giving to my brother I already have a box with a f7 diesel that's from bachmann with a gondola and 3 bay coal hopper and caboose. Just to start him off with something. The bachmann is new so it has a can motor the life-like one has that same motor if not similar to the one you have.
A guy at my local hobby shop said to put slotcar magnets in the pancake motors to get slow from them.
I tried that (Red Dragon T-Jet magnets for Aurora Thunderjet slot cars). It didn't make it any faster but did make it more reliable and responsive.
That might work since it might make the magnets stronger, apparently stronger magnets create more torque and less speed but in my experience they just do both.
Great to see the f40 runing smooth and the c44w you got can you paint it into the norfolk southern Pennsylvania haritage unit
I never knew that bachmann would ever make diesel Amtrak trains
I like f40ph locomotives
That horn is heinous. Other than that it’s not half bad. I’d definitely go with a Rapido one. You should do a full overhaul of one of these and put a all new engine and drive in it. Would be a lot of work but it would be really cool!
It is really bad. The Life Like one is better.
Success.......we’ll done. What is the name of the cleaner/lube?
Oh yeah visual ASMR, get in them cracks. Lol🤣🤣
The Amtrak F40PH
I’m looking for this model
I have the same locomotive, lol
I have a train it works but it stops working after 4 time around
I am restoring a locomotive it has a pancake motor
It's a bachmen
That horn is wayyyyyy out of scale
Near 8k...
SMT how do you get the shells off the bachmann locomotives?
Carefully! I use a pocket knife to get one side loose and maybe stick a toothpick or small screw drive in to hold it while I jimmy the other side. Some larger engines have more than one clip on each side.
A pancake in the motor
In your honest opinion, who makes the better locomotives for an HO scale layout?
What IS that cleaning fluid you're using? I would LOVE to get my hands on some of that!!!
I have a life life proto 2000 Gp30 that wouldn’t work, do you know the problem is and how I can fix it?
Is the motor humming
@@crudecaboose8382 You're one step ahead of me
I am speeed
NewEngland Model Railroader nope, the lights doesn’t turn on, the motor does not make any sound.
Are the wheels dirty
Yeah I’m drivin down the track there’s people filmin, gonna flip em off
No maple syrup on that pancake!
I know, in Canada we consider that a sin.
What is up with the horns
I have no idea
@@SMTMainline i don't think real F40s ever had the horns in that position
That horn belongs to the GE E60 and way to oversized get a detail associates k5la and paint it Black then it will be accurate
Southwest Limited productions bachman did what lionel does with their horns they cheap out on it
For real
Southwest Limited productions yep
@@fairportrails107 yep and Kato does the same thing the horn is oversized
Southwest Limited productions didn’t kato used the m5 s or 3rst
Replace the pancake syrup with a good lubricant. 🤣
I had a locomotive with the exact same chase and it was over lubed and disgusting to the point of no repair so I made it a dummy.
I got the Sam anges for 5$ at an cochen
Amtrak is an American train
Scrump you always say Folks in the start of your videos,,,,,st the end you should use the porky pig ending,,,,da da da thats all folks,,,that would be really cool
Yep second
I hate those pancake motors they suck
That nose is wrong
