  • Ok this one was the definition of an impulse buy. But here it is! a DDA40X by Bachmann with DCC. I've always liked the DD35 and DD40's. In fact I have an HO scale Bachmann unit with DCC/Sound.
Anyways I got this little gem off of eBay. Let's see if she runs.
    Here's Spookshow's page about the DDA40X:

Road Number 6946 is at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola California. If you haven't gone to see the one near you yet, go see it. It is truly a BEAST.

I sure have! went a couple of months ago. Such a big beautiful thing. Even though the one on display in Frisco is definitely in need of a little TLC.

I kindof wish I modeled UP. Because at some point they had pretty much one or a few of everything. And as such, are very easy to shop for when it comes to HO or N scale stuff.

Interesting. I didn’t know you could even get a model of one of these. I have just been reading about them and you seem to know your stuff. Great video! Thanks.

Thanks for watching and subscribing! I think Bachmann was the only one to make these in N scale. I know for sure Bachmann made one in HO scale. Athearn made a Blue Box HO scale "DD40" but it had the DD35 standard cab if I remember correctly. And there may be a newer release in HO scale as well.

@@YeOldeGeezer I'll bet they're pretty good. Athearn Genesis models are excellent judging by the ones ive seen up close.

The EMD DDA40X having two 16-645E3A diesel prime movers, 6,600 HP

Yep. the most powerful single chassis diesel road switcher. The big AC6000's got close. But they had issues with those German prime movers from what I understand at that power level.

Great review, i picked up one of these and i thought it was a great budget buy.....great loco for the money.....i'd like to put a sound board in mine......keep up the great content!

I looked into doing a sound conversion. It looked to be very involved. I've been trying to find one with factory sound, I know they're out there but probably spendy.

Bachmann has made two versions of the DD40 in N scale. This is the newer model with a better mechanism and far better details then the older one. I think maybe Athearn or somebody else may have made one as well but I've not researched it.
