It looks like the bearing has bottomed out against a shoulder on the shaft. You may have some wear in the outer bearing housing causing it to be out of adjustment. I suspect if changing the bearing and race is out of the question, if you were able to take out the shaft and turn down the shoulder a little, you may be able to seat the bearing where it needs to be. Diagnosed but not resolved. I'm going to pull the input shaft and replace the bearings. Along with a general cleanup and overhaul it should put things to rights.
