  • This video caters for the cheap basic HK style Esc's with Governor mode.
    I demonstrate the following:
    1: Standard TX throttle and pitch curves with motor and esc
    2: ESC programming Heli Governor mode
    3: Program TX throttle & pitch curves for Gov mode
    4: Bench testing Gov mode First & Second range
    5: 450 Pro Gov mode test and calibration 12T - 13T
    6: Calculating Headspeed / Rpm without a tachometer
    7: Final Stats
    Hope this video helps you to at least understand what "Heli Governor Mode" is even if you don't intend to use it...I'm actually really liking the idea of it and cant wait to test it properly out in the field...finally looks as though I got my power and then some!!! :)

    Very good video. Interesting way of determining head speed.Thumbs up!

    excellent video. Finally someone understands how to edit an instructional video. The viewer can pause and re watch sections that go by too fast. No need to make everyone sit through a 20 second text crawl or watch someone plug in jumpers in real time. Very nice graphs as well.

      Thanks brianaple!!! I'm with you...long winded text that moves around with fancy spins and turns is a pain in the ass!

    What are the differences between the two modes of the governor? I see it saying RPM-off, Mode1 and Mode2.

    Thanks, a good tutorial. One question that I have, is it possible to set up different headspeeds in different flight modes (lower for sport flying and high for 3D for instance) and switch them in-flight.. Or is the governor 'locked' to the headspeed it detects when it first spins up?

    • @IvanBarb4
      @IvanBarb4  Před 10 lety

      Your welcome!..Yes you can, the head speed is determined by the max throttle curve (and pinion). Simply by adjusting the throttle curve for each mode...lower max throttle curve for sports, and higher max throttle curve for 3D.
      eg..flight mode 1 max throttle curve 75% -- flight mode 2 max throttle curve 100%....when you switch to the desired mode the governor should adjust to maintain the new hs. You can also adjust the main blade pitch curve for each mode.

    i tried to calculate my mini titans headspeed using the audacity method. came out at more than 10,000 rpm ! and not even in idle up :)
    so i suspect i may have made a mistake somewhere. i recorded the sound on my samsung tablet then imported to audacity the .wav file. maybe thats not the correct type. anyway, i followed your instructions carefully so dont know what went wrong. i flew the heli about a meter from the tablet and it was a little windy but not much. maybe i was too close. the peaks on the spectograph were way higher than on the vid. about 600 hz

      Maybe you need to change the AXIS from LINEAR to LOGARITHMIC FREQUENCY in the "Frequency Analysis" window. 15:25

    what type of blades are you using?

    • @IvanBarb4
      @IvanBarb4  Před 10 lety

      Those blades are cheap $3-$4 glass fiber blades, I also use $8 carbon fiber blades from Hobbyking.

    Hi is this the same for flybarless set up?

    • @IvanBarb4
      @IvanBarb4  Před 6 lety

      This setup relates to the esc which is the power source for your craft....it doesnt matter if its has a flybar or flybarless, its intention is to keep the power constant, mainly used for 3d.

    Thanks for the video. Have a question. I am new to rc heli and have trex 500. Does every ESC have governor mode if it has general beep 6 step setup? How can I find out if it has gov mode in the first place? Do I need to buy hobbyking program card for this?

    • @ivanb386
      @ivanb386 Před 4 lety

      your welcome.....I'm not sure if every esc has governor mode, you would have to check the specs from the manufacturer or from the place you buy it. The hobbyking programmer is for the hobbyking esc, not sure if they work with every brand.

      @@ivanb386 Thanks for response. I got align BL60G ESC and it says in setup that it has Soft start + governor mode, but only in Idle up1 and 2 (not in Normal). So I assume, after activating gov mod, in Idle up1 I set throttle to linear 70% and pitch I will adjust to my preferences. I will watch your video one more time to repeat steps and see how it works out.

    • @rmiklosh

      @@ivanb386 Hi Ivan. I have Align BL60G ESC and someone wrote on governor setup instructions: Go into ESC setup and choose Heli 2 Gov Mode. Then set your radio throttle curves e.g.
      Normal: 0-25-50-75-100
      Idle 1: 75-75-75-75-75.
      Is it that simple? I dont have a setup card or anything. How do I even know that my ESC works as a governor, besides the beeps on initialization?

    • @ivanb386
      @ivanb386 Před 4 lety

      Hey Roman, its been a very long time since I played with esc, its great to know the esc has what you need.....follow the video and see how you go....If your new to rc helis, its important to know that what your attempting is an advanced thing, governor mode in idle up is for 3D acrobatics, this is not easy and takes a very long time to work up to, particularly with such a big heli, things could go wrong very quickly.....I suggest (if you haven't already) you master the basics before you attempt 3D....I did all my training in a simulator to master muscle memory before I attempted anything in the real world....Good luck, I hope you are successful.
