I love that you added in the out takes. Shows you are human, and shows the rest of us it's NOT all that easy. Thanks for the vids. I own, but unfortunately, seldom play, a PSR S 950. Keep making music. And keep breathin'.
I just want to say thanks for the "Fail" section at the end! See, those who do lessons & instructional things can sometimes come across as all-superior (or rather make the recipients feel all-inferior), which is very off putting. So having the insight to add this sort of disarming gesture is very generous.
I'm a big fan! Thanks for all your videos, especially the objective perspectives on the Yamaha PSR-S970. Your videos helped me choose this as my latest and most expensive keyboard. The features, voices and vocal processing at $2,500+ cdn, plus the Yamaha heritage, all helped make the decision for me, between Yamaha and Korg. Our local shops don't stock a huge selection of keyboards, so my research is mostly online. There's not a lot of info on the quality of the Korg arrangers' vocal processing, how much of the T.C. Helicon vocal processing features they include, and advertisements didn't seem to indicate that they were loud and proud to include everything. Whereas the Yamaha PSR-S970 is in their second generation vocal processor, and allows you to tune vocal characteristics and effects for every voice in whatever quartet, duet, or whatever vocal style you are using. It's about $1,000 cheaper than the similar Korg arranger (which doesn't really sound anywhere near $1,000 better, IMHO) I love the realistic voices on this board! To my ear, Yamaha often sounds better than the competition, although Roland and Korg are right up there with realistic instrument voices. I am interested in all kinds of keyboards, especially Kronos and other high end workstations. Thanks again, and cheers!
so glad you liked that! you know, for 6 minutes video of me playing, I usually have to record like 30 minutes before I get it right, or good enough anyway... :)
Wow, Woody...I loved it. While Latin is definitely one of my favorite genres, I really liked the French Jazz. And, I have to agree, the outtakes were hilarious...LOL!!! I know you hated them, but the FAILS were a tremendous addition to your video. There's just something about that little record light illuminating that makes the most seasoned keyboard veteran freeze up. I love it my friend. Roger Brenizer, PSR Administrator
I'm referring to your latest video at the time of posting this comment, I just got the name wrong as it was from memory....the correct name is 'Sold my synths, here's what I kept'.
Help me as I am confused. Given a choice among these which one you buy?: 1- Korg Havian 30. 2- Casio Privia PX 560M. 3- Korg P900. 4- Yamaha PSR S970. 5- Yamaha DGX 660.
Awesome demo!!! The 60s Rising Pop Style is simply mind-blowing! I like the guitar sound you used :) The Latin song is great too. Please do a demo of the Canadian Rock Style which suits Summer of 69. It's a great style.
That looks like a K&M Spider Pro stand. I have one of those and they're great. It's my favorite stand. I love all of the accessories that you can get for it. This sounds great, but as a pianist, I have trouble relating to this kind of "band in a box" keyboard. I've played some of Yamaha's big Electone organs, and I always feel like I'm arranging a kind of recorded song playback rather than just playing something myself. But that's just me and my prejudices. You're obviously having lots of fun with it.
Oh, I see from another video that it's an Ultimate stand. Those are nice too, but the K&M leaves more room at the bottom for pedals, so I still prefer it.
I am not shure, if I will connect phones in front of Yamaha, do the speakers will be off. My Yamaha did not cut the voice. Maybe I have to use some functions ???
Hey Woody, first off love your PSR reviews and upfront critique. I intend on having a S970 by Xmas. I was little taken back by the keyboard and lousey buttons. But i can't afford to upgrade to a Tyros. All your videos are great, thanks for the work you put into them. By the way what's that little gadget on top of your keyboard? (Not the Lizard)
hi Mike, i'm a picky guy and expect a lot for my money, probably more picky than most! the keys are light, the buttons are not great, everything is a bit plasticky but it gets the job done! when playing the great sounds and styles you do forget about these things and just enjoy the music. so go for it, i don't think you will be disappointed! I wouldn't want a tyros, i like the built-in speakers and portability, and price tag. :) the gadget is the digital recorder on which i'm capturing the audio from the psr.
Dear Woody - Great Video again. At 0449, how did you change the instrument sound from Sax to the next one ? I currently use the 1-8 Registration Memory buttons but you didnt press any of those at that point so I would like to understand what you have done please. Best wishes, David
Thanks man, If you like Dance/Trance styles you can download all of my styles on my PSR Tutorial stylepage.Check out my 3 latest video, If you want my new Expansion Pack " Ultimate EDM", just send me a message.
I'm looking for some all in one workstation and I'm thinking about two instruments this one and roland fa-06 I know that its two completely different instruments but I'm looking for some advice I've noticed one thing The Yamaha has better sounds of real instruments but the roland has better electronic sounds I'm looking for something which could play my wav sample loops as well but I heard that Yamaha can play the sf2 files which I have some for example access virus sounds Mostly I am working with electronic music such as chillout and trance but I would like to make the music for commercial as well That's why I like the sounds from Yamaha So you see it's hard to choose :)
Dear Rafal, I bought a PSR S970 3 months back. Now here is my opinion: 1- I am a beginner. 2- I did an extensive research for over a year before making a purchase. 3- PSRS970 has it all. The sounds are far better than many within this range. 4- Display is not touch screen, but within a month, you will get so familiar that you will not want anything more. 5- It has over 7 pages of Dance/Electronic/Trance music where you also get a boost of opening and closing track with customized sounds. 6- You can consider yourself a well qualified D within a 2 months of usage. 7- The best feature is the mic and guitar input where you can ad harmony as well as arpeggio. 8- It has option of expansion packs, so you can add more styles such as Middle Eastern, Indian etc. 9- Talking about sounds, if you are playing acoustic guitar, you can hear the scratch sounds or if you are playing trombone, you can actually hear breaths, the replication is too good. 10- It has Vocal Harmony 2, Vocoder functions, Vocal Cancel, and Mic/Guitar input that let’s users experience “instant Karaoke.” 11- You will have total of 989 Voices + 41 Drum/SFX Kits + 480 XG Voices + GM2 + GS (for song playback) PLUS you will get featured voices of 131 Super Articulation Voices, 30 Mega Voices, 31 Sweet! Voices, 74 Cool! Voices, 89 Live! Voices, 30 Organ Flutes! 12- It has over 450 styles, which is too good for given price. 13- 450 Styles, including all-new DJ styles, and 40 Audio Styles. 14- You can directly record your music to USB in WAV and MIDI format. 15- USB audio playback with time stretch, pitch shift, and vocal cancel functions. Now I tell you something when you search online about reviews and the rare cons that you wont find online.... 1- It has plasticky keys, but trust me, they are made very well. 2- People will recommend Korg and Roland, well, I have tried them both and found this instrument to be extraordinary constructed. All I can say is, if you plan to buy PSR S 970, trust me you will not regret. First week of purchase will keep you occupied only listening to sounds, they are amazing. And yes, there is no other brand which sounds Piano better than Yamaha. Piano sounds are absolutely gem! Hope this opinion will help you! :)
Thnx JIM - prob one of the most comprehensive feedbacks I've read. I'm just negotiating with a dealer/teacher to push green lite on the 970. Looking forward. I have a Voice Live 2 which I may sell but just need a couple of presonus monitors to go with the interface and I'm done. Very exciting as I've been building a home studio for ever and have a lot of original material to record. Like you experienced, there's lots of 'Pros' with everything other than Yamaha but most seem to be in bands. Very opinionated just like I was back in the day but take their distortion compression & FXs away and their shredding don't sound quite so hot. ;). Anyways thanx again - music rules...
I love that you added in the out takes. Shows you are human, and shows the rest of us it's NOT all that easy. Thanks for the vids. I own, but unfortunately, seldom play, a PSR S 950. Keep making music. And keep breathin'.
I laughed my *ss off with the bloopers! good thing you told me about you having played this keyboard too! LOL!
I just want to say thanks for the "Fail" section at the end!
See, those who do lessons & instructional things can sometimes come across as all-superior (or rather make the recipients feel all-inferior), which is very off putting. So having the insight to add this sort of disarming gesture is very generous.
right on! should do more bloopers, there are plenty to choose from... :D
Lovely playing. I enjoy the organ flutes most.

Well played, the fails at end were hilarious 👍😀.
thanks for making it to the bitter end :)
Didn't realise the PSR range went so high into workstation territory. No wonder it sounded good! Great vid esp the end bits
I'm a workstation guy myself, but the PSR ticks all the boxes. cheers!
Love this improv-ing ! Top notch ! Cheers. MrC
thx, i enjoyed your stuff too. it's nice to stumble across other PSR-ers.
Very, very nice vid's ! The thing I like most are the mistakes at the end! So recognizable, it is a pleasure to see! 😃😉
so glad you liked that! you know, for 6 minutes video of me playing, I usually have to record like 30 minutes before I get it right, or good enough anyway... :)
Lots of cool stuff you can do with the S970, I bought one to use with my Kronos 2.
Its easy to use.
Wow, Woody...I loved it. While Latin is definitely one of my favorite genres, I really liked the French Jazz. And, I have to agree, the outtakes were hilarious...LOL!!!

thanks for the comment & support Roger. I don't normally need so many takes, honest! :) It's true what you say about that blinking record LED... :)
Amazing played and Nice music !!
thank you, I enjoyed watching some of your performances too.
Loved the first style !
The end FAIL bits, i get that a lot lately lol, great video i think the PSR-S970 is a great little keyboard, thanks :)

I just fell in love with the psr with the very first style, damn!
id love to play House of the rising sun with an organ ad that on the background!
yeah, that style nailed it!
Just checked this video after watching your video 'sold my keyboards but kept three'....I can see why you kept this one, lovely instrument.
there's another video about this topic? not intentional, they are probably the same. weird.
I'm referring to your latest video at the time of posting this comment, I just got the name wrong as it was from memory....the correct name is 'Sold my synths, here's what I kept'.

Awesome demo!!! The 60s Rising Pop Style is simply mind-blowing! I like the guitar sound you used :) The Latin song is great too.
Please do a demo of the Canadian Rock Style which suits Summer of 69. It's a great style.

How do you know which chords to play in the left hand through the rising sun.
well, i just figure it out, comes with experience.

well without reviewing the video I assume that it's the OTS that automatically changes the lead sound when you change the pattern variation.
veryy good,,,
Haha!!! I recognize all the fails/mistakes, when I'm making videos :)You've a nice channel, I think I have seen you on PSR Tutorial Forum.
hi, yeah I'm konaboy over on PSR T. Checked out your channel btw, it is awesome, really enjoyed your playing.
Thanks man, If you like Dance/Trance styles you can download all of my styles on my PSR Tutorial stylepage.Check out my 3 latest video, If you want my new Expansion Pack " Ultimate EDM", just send me a message.

Prajwal VS Last song: Llorando de fué, Lambada Rhytm, Kaoma Group
Thanks Margarito!!!!
Man, this keyboard here in Brazil costs more than a Roland Fantom G!!! LOL!!!
I'm looking for some opinions about this instrument
i have done other vids, and want to do more, i'm sure other viewers will chime in with their opinions.
I'm looking for some all in one workstation and I'm thinking about two instruments this one and roland fa-06
I know that its two completely different instruments but I'm looking for some advice
I've noticed one thing
