  • It's raining outside so lets stay inside and demonstrate the style features of the Yamaha Tyros and PSR arranger keyboards. We will demonstrate style variations, intros and endings. To finish off there will be a tutorial on how to create almost limitless style variations.

    I loved it Woody.I play the S770 and couldn't find any examples of exactly how to use the assignable knobs. I've been using the right one to change the reverbs. You just showed me how to do so much more. This was very useful to me. Thank you!

    Fab demo Woody, particularly demystifying the Live Control knobs. I think the main feature of this series is that they are FUN to explore and play. They put a smile on your face. Agreed that they're not Nord etc pro build quality, but for the money, they are a blast.

    Should you ever get to grips with DJ Styles, on second page of Dance styles, I should love a teach-in, especially in working out the chord sequences for the different variations. I reckon you need these if you're going to do anything meaningful with your right hand!

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  Před 7 lety

      Hi Alan, I agree it is a challenge knowing what to play when the keyboard is playing chords for you. You can check out my "one style from every category" video to see how I handle this... I've got a hunch the chord sequences are listed in the Yamaha data reference manual.

    Where did you learn to improvise? My piano teachers are tied to sheet music don't seem receptive to teaching improvisation....?

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  Před 7 lety +3

      learn your scales and arpeggios, then ability to play by ear and improvise will just come naturally. that's the most fun aspect of playing imho.

    • @chrissie1057
      @chrissie1057 Před 5 lety

      exactly how I was taught years ago. It seems these instruments really lend themselves very well for it, even if you were classically trained. I have what I see as a crass over teacher who combines reading misic as is and then how to improvise with thiis by changing each subsequent verse. It is a fun way to play music and Im finding it not so difficult to learn because I can read music and know the theory. I can see endless possibilities with it. my teacher calls herself an arrarger worstation keyboard teacher, rather than a piano teacher, which she teaches as well but in a different way. 'm really a guitarist so it is new to me.

      hi kelli, yes i think some of the styles feature real drummer, bass, guitar, are they called audio styles, don't remember. but there are only a handful of them, the rest are midi-instruments.

    Hi Woody, can you advise please, I'd love to start to play keyboard but what I don't want is styles, I want great voices, plenty of synth sounds, I'm an 80s chap, good drum sets that I can also use to create/step/record my own backing and also the bass lines etc. what I don't want are the cheesy styles. The question is, what brand/make of keyboard would you buy, baring in mind I only have around £600 to spend? I realise that styles just may well come as part of the package but I'd rather not pay the extra to have them included, I'd much rather be paying for quality sounds and build quality, it's a real shame most keyboards these days look so plastic and cheap. Many thanks.

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  Před 7 lety

      jake, the jd-xi comes to mind, great 80s sounds, drums and sequencer. built-in patterns or create your own of course. but it's plastic and cheap build quality! plenty of vids on my channel, cheers

I'm certainly going to start and go through all your vids, thanks so much, Jacobitejake is a nick name, it's David really :) Just being curious, do you mind me asking what you do for a living, or have you won the lottery :)

    • @jacobitejake
      @jacobitejake Před 7 lety +1

      I've just had a look at it on amazon, looks nice, do you know if you can create your own arpeggio patterns with it, I've looked at the yamaha psr keyboards but they all seem to have fixed pattern arpeggios. Thanks. Cancel that, I've just watched some more vids you've done and yes you can, it looks a great little synth, cheers.
