  • "Born Rich" is a fascinating 2003 documentary directed by Jamie Johnson, an heir to the Johnson & Johnson fortune. The film offers a unique and intimate insight into the lives of the children born into some of America's wealthiest families. Johnson brings together a group of his peers, including heirs of the Bloomberg, Trump, and Vanderbilt fortunes among others, to discuss the realities of privilege, wealth, and their impact on personal identity. By examining the seldom-discussed topic of inherited wealth and the taboo surrounding it, "Born Rich" attempts to unveil the psychology, expectations, and burdens faced by those who are born into affluence.

No matter what status you are born into it is important to learn nobility and integrity. A lot of personalities have a very difficult time living up to the pressures that a wealthy person may experience. You have a lot to lose. It seems crazy, but just look at someone like Prince Harry.
Also, people with no wealth do run around very entitled. The difference with them is they typically have nothing to lose.

Why nobility ? Integrity you should have. What about you should suffer in life ? Live like the poor their opportunities and then have integrity. And try to be rich by working hard. That is the real test of character!!!

I'm not rich, but I'm disabled and on SSDI, so I get why rich people who don't work get depressed. Doing nothing with your life is, in fact, a depressing way to live
If you are able-bodied and CAN work, even if you don't need the money, then you should. Even if you just volunteer or make art or write books or something and don't get paid for it. Whether you need to make money off it or not, it's good for the human soul to be productive

I feel so bad for this guy. He was just trying to find his way in the world. Because he made this, he’s subjected to the same fate as his dad. You don’t see anything public about him nowadays. Even if he wanted to, he probably can’t have kids because he’d been taken out of the eligible bachelors pool for wealthy elites because of this docu. You can’t really bite the hand that feeds or really choose your own path when you’re locked into a legacy. But he did the right thing, maybe true freedom is being able to do choose right no matter the consequences

Well said and I totally agree. There is one scene in the documentary where his father is trying to get him to not make this whole thing, and you can see so much in the way the dad carries himself. Almost meek, like he once was like his son but had been washed away

The cool thing about having so much $ is that you can dedicate your life to philanthropy. It's not your fault where you come from, rich or poor l, but what you do with it is up to you. Has got to be very gratifying to contribute lots of $ to worthy organizations. I love it when I've given $100. to the Humane Society.

I like this movie because the rest of us aren’t in touch with how robbed these kids felt psychologically of an accomplished life. I think growing up a billionaire would be the worst kind of prison. Even though I’m not worrying about anything concerned with money, I have nothing left to strive for, in a way. Or that’s how they talk about it

The more (worldly riches) you have, the harder you fall.
I'd prefer spiritual riches. Sure, it would be nice not worry about paying my bill and have a dependable vehicle, but overall, I would rather be rich in God's graces and find a good Catholic husband who is humble enough to pray, attend church and has more virtues than vices and can control his passions. I also hope that we would have our own babies who grow up to love and serve the Lord. People are more valuable than any worldly material or stuff that will rust or degrade one day. But TMI😉 🙏
