  • Step-by-step guide on how to replace / remove blower motor resistor on Volkswagen VW Tiguan SUV. Removing the blower motor resistor is very easy and you don't need any tools whatsoever ( 2007 | 2008 | 2009 | 2010 | 2011 | 2012 | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 | SE | TRENDLINE | COMFORTLINE | HIGHLINE | 4MOTION | 2.0 ).
Most common symptom of a faulty blower motor resistor is that blower / heater works only on one speed setting, usually the highest speed setting. It is a good idea to test the wires towards the blower motor to make sure the blower motor resistor is actually faulty, although in most of the cases it will be.
To remove the old blower motor resistor first you will want to remove the cover under the glove box. It is held by two plastic trim screws. Once cover is removed, pull the connector out of the blower motor resistor by pushing onto two black clips and then slide the blower motor resistor out.

@@QuiteAlright If it's not blowing on all 4 settings would replacing the resistor also work for that?

@@geraldwolff4485 Probably blower motor failed or blower motor fuse/relay

@@QuiteAlright It would blow for about 30 seconds and then just stop blowing. I'd try a couple minutes later and same thing. Now it doesn't blow at all

@@geraldwolff4485 99% blower motor failed. Easy and not too expensive fix. If you want to be sure you would have to test to see if power is coming to the blower motor. If yes then blower motor failed. If not a problem is somewhere else

You are very welcome. Try to press and hold the lock button on the key fob while it is in the ignition lock. That should reprogram it

@@mikehiggins3791 I just checked my parts supplier and there is supposed to be a resistor for tiguans with automatic climate controls. It looks different than the one on the video so Im not sure where it is located as I don't have access to the vw diagrams. It should be around that area

@QuiteAlright yea ive done a bit of research on the resistors and there are 2 different types the one in your video and a black block one for the automatic climate control you have to remove 2 bolts and a few clips. It's almost in the same spot as your video but a bit more awkward to access. Thank you for all your help. I hope my little bit of description has helped you as well.
