Doing the same thing to a '51 8n project. Turning into a challenge, can't get gear hot enough so off to the machine shop. Tip: put a couple of 4 inch bolts in the pressure plate holes to lift and hold the flywheel with. Also make slotted dowels out of 4 inch bolts(cut the heads off) and screw them into the bell housing to help line up the front to the rear of the tractor. Update 6/19 machine shop unsuccessful in ring gear install, out of round by .020. New ring gear ordered.
Sorry to hear about the out of round fly wheel. Those are some great tips for lifting the fly wheel and lining up the motor and trans housing! Thanks for that and thanks for watching!
Man I dread what you just did, but I figured once I get her split I'll have to be all in on this project. Nice informative video...
If it weren't for the hood and all the other nonsense that crosses from the motor to the trans it's really not too bad. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!
Nicely done!
Thank you!
cat at the end was a nice touch but i would personally like to see more chicken.
The chickens refuse to boss me around the way the cat does so they make fewer appearances. But I'll talk to them and let them know they seem to have a fan base.
Is the area/space on the flywheel you replaced have a groove machined into it? I'm trying to replace the ring gear for a 1950 Ford 8N. I've already replaced the ring gear once. Seems there is a machined area where the ring gear will seat. The (new) ring gear would spin after it was installed on the flywheel.
If your new ring gear is going to spin then it might not be the right one. It should expand when heated so as it cools it will friction fit. I do not recall if the fly wheel has a groove in it.
Gotta pay to play is the American way! 🇺🇸
Oh boy, got my 9N split, old ring gear off. Had to cut it off and then drill it, but it's out. Now I fear the install. Will putting on a 600 degree grill and using Mapp Gas expand it? Nice video and thank you!
You're half way there! Preheating it helps and the map gas will be necessary. Best advice I can give is move as fast as you can safely(it can cool down quicker then you think) and be ready to persuade it with a hammer and drive if it doesn't go easy. Good luck!
@@FIXYFIXYCHANNEL Thank you! Yes, I will move quick, my teeth's were really bad on one side, kept chewing up my Bendix.
Take a look at your throw out bearing and pressure plate while you are in there.
@@FIXYFIXYCHANNEL I just bought a whole kit w/ the tool. Mine are "crunchy" too.
Sounds like your gonna have yourself one great starting and shifting tractor when your done!
I'm the real preston!!!!
Was it in question?
