What movie are you most excited to watch this holiday season?
Elf never gets old
Family tradition is that we watch A Christmas Story on Christmas Eve. 🎄
Home alone of course!!
John Wick.
elf, the polar express, and home alone are my fav
claire: “i don’t want to spend any more than 2 hours on this 😡 !!”
also claire: “i made wreaths 😊❤️💚”
Also also Claire: “I demand that you pause the time”
it's not a house it's a home so it's gonna take a while
And icicles and pretzel woodpiles and..
Honestly it’s inspirational lol
This is why we would die for her
she really opened it up with “today we have a totally pointless episode” … she really knows her audience
we do love a chaotic claire
Far from pointless. It turned out so perfectly, it was cozy and artistic at the same time. Giving us a few minutes of happiness is not pointless. It’s pretty much the most anyone can ask for these days.
@@hopegold883 We found the meaning of Christmas!
Agreed with her. And yet I watched the entire episode. True fan.
Ah yes, the 5 stages of baking: blind ambition, regret, anger, perseverance, and accomplishment.
spot on
Literally lmao
😂😂😂😂
WHAT A MOOD
Those are the only five emotions I have.
“i thought it was gonna be really fun and then i immediately regretted it. and now i wish we weren’t doing it.” MOOD FOREVER
She says this so often. I wish she would make videos she /wants/ to make so we can’t tell she hates it the whole time
@@abbyz13 I mean ultimately it was her choice to do this episode and literally nobody made her spend a whole extra 4-5 hours doing all the little decorations for the gingerbread house. Like she could have just stopped when the timer finished, but she enjoys crafting and you could see how proud she was at the end. At around 4 mins in she even talks about why she was excited to do this project. It's clear the vibe was more of a "oh god what have I done" type of realisation for the challenge/time crunch. She's also said before that venting/complaining is just part of her process in dealing with pressure, like on GM, but there's no basis to argue that she /actually/ hates doing this when it's literally her own show and she has the creative control to decide what kinds of videos get made. She's a grown woman capable of making decisions for herself and nobody is forcing her to do anything she doesn't want to.
Gourmet Makes flashbacks
This is me after handing my thesis proposal lmao
Honestly, tagline to every holiday tradition 😂 but then we're at end of episode Claire after.
Claire: I'm spending 2 hours only because I don't want to spend any more time.
Also Claire: I don't care about the timer. I'll go all night if I have to.
Also Also Claire: I demand you stop the timer. I'm not wasting my two hours on that.
@@DuyNguyen-yx2vd we have similar energy, and I love it ☺️
I love how she self imposed the timer then spends the whole time fighting against it
She really went "If it isn't the consequences of my own actions!"
this episode has the energy of that kid in class who says they didn't do well for the test, then comes back with an A+.
She did go to Harvard, definitely one smart cookie.
@@teeandessing12 and ferrandi!
@@lemonadeslices and McGill. She just hit up all the prestigious institutions in various countries haha
that was like almost every episode of gourmet makes too lmao
If that ain't Claire I don't know what is
"Claire Attempts" should be a series!
This had all the best parts of Gourmet Makes. Best video since she left Bon Appetit
@@charliedechauvin911 totally!
couldn’t agree more!!! maybe desserts she has never tried making or eating before! hi, vinny 🙇♀️
Yaaaaassssss! I love the vibe of this episode so much. I love the other ones too but I would like to see a bit more chaos as long as it's not too stressful, haha.
She says it’s totally pointless, yet makes the most beautiful Gingerbread House.
Correction: Gingerbread Home
This was so cute. I like that Claire hated the project going in but then got really into it and made a beautiful house and decorations by the end. I also really love the editor's touches, in this episode and your others!! Plus it was cute to see & hear so much of the crew this episode :D You're all doing a great job!
As a "behind-the-scenes" person with our community theatre, I just want to thank you for acknowledging the crew! 😘 it's always nice to get some crew love! 💜
@@marieandrews3285 Any really good show has an excellent crew behind it! Mediocre acting can often be over looked when a good crew is on the job!
Every Thursday the uploads from Dessert Person brighten up my whole day
Agreed! Claire is so much fun and her creations are amazing. :)
"I've had to scale it way back" *children's drawing of a house appears* made me laugh, expertly edited
I loved everything about this, it was chaotic in the best way.
My top tip: put the windows in before assembly. You can just pour the caramel (or isomalt or whatever) directly into the window holes. It will set perfectly, you won't need to worry about cutting hardened caramel, and it takes way less time than trying to get them in there once the house is built.
I was puzzled by the idea of somehow inserting the sugar windows instead of pouring them in as well.
@@lisaweaver3291
clarie is... unique 😭❤️
Claire always did enjoy the arts & crafts portion of Gourmet Makes, so the fact that she put so many hours into this is not surprising at all haha
How Claire reacts to time limits is so relatable 😭 giving herself 2 hours so she doesn’t work too much on it, and then just completely ignoring that and going another 7 HOURS
Claire's look of annoyance when Vinny points out they're 32 minutes in LOL
Claire hating on gingerbread houses is so relatable. I always think that type of stuff is going to be fun, then like 20 minutes in I’m like, why did I do this? And you’re in it so you have to complete it so the rest of the time is minimal and your just like PLEASE BE DONE ALREADY. It’s satisfying AF once it’s done though.
Maybe we should be making gingerbread cookies and getting a house-shaped cookie cutter? Then decorate the cookies with icing. Or, perhaps, I'm just too lazy to build a whole gingerbread house.
I love decorating gingerbread houses. It’s something that keeps me occupied for several hours and makes use of my perfectionism I have. 😂
Claire "Time Is A Construct" Saffitz. This episode is so perfectly chaotic lmao
Claire was probably the student that had to be told 3 times that the time for the test is over and that she should put the pen away 😂
I really like that Claire’s brought the defiant flare that marked the Other Show. I like seeing the challenge. “We’re not going for flavor here” i also like the strong “upload essay at 11:55” energy
I love Claire joyfully cooking her amazing food and hanging with her friends but I do like the occasional sprinkle of the Other Show Claire.
I wasn’t looking for a couple seconds when Claire saying “I find this aggressive and menacing” so I missed the cereal box
I thought she was referring to having to make the whole gingerbread house and I thought
“Same”
That cereal box was HORRIFYING.
"After another 7 hours". I love when one of Claire's cooking adventures takes an excursion into the recesses of her psyche. This is about as close to the Gourmet Makes meltdowns as we get now. And I am fine with that.
“Everything is edible” I’d love to see you eat a whole raw star anise claire
I mean you can… it just wouldn’t be pleasant
edible means that it can be eaten not that it would be an enjoyable experience
the way the final product looks absolutely incredible. the boxed gingerbread house sets are quaking
There’s a story my husband’s family loves to tell about when his sister made one of the Martha Stewart gingerbread villages. She loves working with gingerbread and has a ton of plans and patterns. She had planned a full Saturday just for assembly after spending the week prepping everything. When they saw her that Sunday morning she was stressed, angry, and venting about how “She calls it simple and that it would all come together easily. And I’m sure it does when you have a whole team to put it together for you!”
Claire has major “Gourmet Makes” chaotic energy in this episode and I’m here for it
Heh whole intro I was thinking girl you left ba, you don't have to torture yourself anymore but here we are lol
@@mallorykane2843 she left ba?
Couldn't agree more. At the end where she starts explaining I was waiting for the sped up gourmet makes instructions montage....
The fact that this was shot in July shows how much work and planning it takes to be relevant and successful in digital media. Y’all are doing great!!!
i really like this video (it was definitely not pointless, i enjoyed it just as much as the rest of the videos) for many reasons, but one reason for my liking in particular is that i absolutely LOVE seeing crew members and/or behind the scene shots!! their conversations with claire and their little comments here and there are so wholesome!!
Agreed. They should have had the crew decorating a gingerbread house as well! These kinds of projects are just more fun when done as a group. Plus, definitely not pointless because I now have a valid excuse for purchasing Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I need it to make roof shingles. The rest of the box, I guess I'll just have to eat (so that I'm not wasting food of course).
I’ve been making gingerbread houses since I was a kid and I still use the technique my mom taught me. We use fairly thin, but really dry (and tough, not delicious at all) gingerbread and glue the houses together with dry caramel instead of royal icing. It acts like hot glue so it essentially hardens almost immediately so you don’t need to wait for royal icing to dry. Our houses are really small and simple but they assemble very quickly. I once baked and assembled about 20 of them for a children’s party my friend hosted, it was a lot of work but the kids had so much fun decorating them 😊
That sounds awesome!! I bet those kids will remember that for a long time.
Julia Usher has a great recipe for flat, thin, sturdy and good gingerbread here on CZcams.
What is dry caramel? Got a recipe? :3
@@nectarshrub yes! sugar. no water. hot pan. swirled, not stirred. amber color. salt if you actually intend on eating it. pour onto gingerbread house seams.
(A dry caramel just means a caramel made without water. sometimes you'll do this to candy fruit peels, sometimes you'll do this to add milkfat and make caramel candies, but this usage works as well.)
I'm watching this Dec. 3rd eating Christmas cookies and milk getting ready to start decorating my prebuilt gingerbread house I got at Costco earlier today. And my cat is sitting on the spot I cleared to put up my Christmas tree either tonight or tomorrow. Cherries everyone!
Claire vlogging way past the deadline, so excited with her project, Is such a vibe. God mercy me when I get this excited with work.
Loved the energy of this video, just Claire contradicting herself constantly.
Aww this reminded me of the old days, poor Claire suffering with a recipe 🤭🤭
holiday edition of Dessert Person and I’m here a minute in? this holiday season’s gonna be a blast ☺️
Reason why I fell in love with Claire on BA, just pure realism and chaos. Two ingredients that make up entertainment.
petition to let claire do more craft-related baking videos because she was in her ELEMENT making this gingerbread house
A video that combines Claire doing arts and crafts (which she loves) with the challenge component of time constraints (which she hates). Plus vlogging! It all comes together so beautifully. There's something for everyone.
This video has all the feels that made me love watching Claire so much in the old days. I missed this chaotic energy so much. Haha.
Complete and total respect for taking on this challenge. There is no amount of money you could pay me to do this.
I'm baking and building a gingerbread for the first time this year, and this is stressing me out before I even get into the kitchen, haha! I already regret the decision, but after buying an ungodly amount of sweets for it... the bed is made 🙃
It's all perspective. I don't like cooking at all but so many people find it really enjoyable. So just focus on choosing a different perspective on it than Claire had going in lol.
I don't know about you, but I fell in love with Claire's videos in the former situation where the task at hand would be annoying and hard, and she would not hide her annoyance. Just like this video! No sugar coat with this baker! It's just so relatable to be annoyed with things in ones day, even if you are getting to do something you love. Love you, Claire.
This feels like the good ol' days. Love it. Claire's sanity for my entertainment feels like a fair trade to me.
I love that Claire is slightly mad about having to execute on her own idea.
Post-watch edit: It's also totally on-brand for her to get way more into this than she expected then proceed to be super extra about finishing it.
I expected nothing less from Claire. This is the most beautiful gingerbread house I've ever seen. I want to live in it.
Your upload timing is PERFECT for me in Pakistan! I get back from work and I am ready to have dinner thinking about what to watch and you upload, makes my Thursday 💛
The star anise is a wonderful effect, especially with the interior light. The roof shingles are fantastic and also the icicles! What about putting the windows on before putting up the walls; and maybe join a long side with a shorter side and let the join dry (do that twice) and then put both "L"s together and spackle together on the base. A timeconsuming project to be sure!
The editor really shines this episode.
We need a whole separate series of Claire making things she doesn't want to make. Getting some real Gourmet Makes vibes here.
Nah, she was totally stressed out and a total B when BA put her through that.
This brings me back to Gourmet-Makes Claire!
We need a "No crew was harmed in the making of this episode" disclaimer.
If there's no disclaimer, just assume it's the opposite.
I would prefer for Claire to have the ac on at all times. The sound is fine and I'm happier if she's happier.
I don’t know why I didn’t expect literally the most perfect gingerbread house
This style of editing gives me transformed Gourmet Makes vibes & my heart is happy for it. I loved the return of the angry cinnamon toast crunch mixed with lion roar!!!!
This episode is amazing. Claire's dedication to arts and crafts should never be underestimated.
This has a real "Gourmet Bakes" vibe and we are here for it.
So GLAD you have your own show... and that some other ladies from your old show also have their own shows. I love to see you doing your own thing in your own show!
All the little decorated details and Claire’s excitement for them is so cute, what a fun episode.
My cat always watches with me and I feel like that is the audience she would want. 💛
The editor making the face on the cereal box blink has brightened my day 🥰
The best part of ALL her videos are the little animations.
Idk why but this gave me so much Gourmet Makes energy 😂
I love that Claire clearly just needed some crafty art to tackle, and she spent hours on it when she kept trying to talk herself out of it. Same thing happens to me. And the house turned out so great. Looked intricate but not overworked! 🥰♥️👍
ARE YOU KIDDING the way I am just now stumbling on this page after seriously missing you for the past year after no more test kitchen 😭 I’m so happy rn
Kudos to the editor, I almost missed the cereal box blinking, amazing job!
Genuinely outstandingly beautiful gingerbread house I gasped at the reveal
I love seeing Claire getting frustrated. Reminds me of her “chocolate tempering” days 😂
When I was in high school I made a giant ginger Chateau Chenonceau castle as a visual aid for a French presentation. At the end of the presentation I took out a wooden mallet and smashed it so the class could eat it. My teacher was horrified because she thought it was pretty but after spending much more time than I ever imagined creating it, I loved it but I was happy to smash it hee hee. The incredible growing time that your beautiful house took brought me back to those hours of creation in high school.
Claire being the best Claire she can be.
It''s really nice to see something different on the channel and the editor's comedic timing really makes these videos for me
never pointless, but for *our* sanity 💛
The round windows with the star anise and wreaths are so cute 😭💕
I honestly love Claire in this kind of challenges. And the fact that you can still see the enjoyment at the end of the video despite the stress she’s been under throughout the video makes it guilt free to watch! ☺️ You go, Claire! (And all your team!)
This video made me feel better about the fact that I struggle to assemble the box kits for gingerbread houses.
The chaotic energy of this video is giving me life lol! And it turned out amazing! I usually use boiled sweets for the windows, I place them in the windows whole when the gingerbread go into the oven and they melt into place as it bakes, but I'll definitely love to try caramel this year!
You are the 21st century Betty Crocker. Glad to see a great role model to encourage all things sweet and baked. Amazing house. The wreaths are my favorite…
Ok but it’s BEAUTIFUL AND ADORABLE
Maya the Gingerbread House Judge looks so intimidating #good4her
The way you could tell she was NOT happy to be doing this while narrating the whole video, it was kinda funny. Claire has suffered enough for our entertainment.
It's even funnier that it was her idea to begin with. It's the feeling of biting off more than you can chew and being like "oh god what have I done".
@@AllegraVivace but then she spends 7 extra hours decorating it and ends up loving it xD
@@mireia9448 That's Peak Claire.
She starts of optimistic and ambitious (the night before). Then the grumpiness sets in as she realizes the task in front of her. But her perfectionist side takes over i the end.
how can a gingerbread house be so cute!!! it’s so good!!!!! i love the details
this is the most beautiful gingerbread house ive ever seen
Claire at the beginning: "this is dumb, i dont want to do this, this doesnt matter, im not spending that much time on this"
Claire as soon as she starts doing it: "noooo it's going wrong, we're gonna be here all night, none of you are leaving, this must be perfect"
Ahhhh i just love these videos
"idk Vince!" ( 9:42 ) then he gives her the cereal box-man :D
These are awesome results, ..loved every minute of it.
You express the stages of creativity so well.
I like the cat hair in the closeup..looks like something or everything I make.
My Sister and I tried to make gingerbread houses when we were young..it was a laugh fest... powdered sugar everywhere, it was so hot in the kitchen stuff was sliding down.
We put them on the porch to cool. and she took them babysitting to decorate..She said the kids were bouncing off the walls on a sugar high..lol
Good memories
I live to see this poor woman strain against arbitrary limitations and setbacks. Her being inconvenienced and generally frustrated gives me life.
Good job this episode, Claire.
I tried to make a tiny ginger bread house last year with royal icing total fail so we used melted caramel and it worked sooo well :). Next episode a recipe but mini sized???
The CTC box blinking was gold!
Now that I've started working as a professional baker, I have SO MUCH respect for Claire and these frustrating projects.
"I thought it would be fun, but immediately regretted it"
Ah yes, the classic Claire Saffitz content has returned 😌
editor, you have great taste in kdramas!
My two cousins, me and my grandma have this tradition. So each year before christmas, we meet and make our „witch houses“. My grandma bakes the gingerbread and it is the Most delicious!
The fire light in post and the blinking cereal box were *chefs kiss* nice job editors! Claire it is the cutest gingerbread house ever! Love it!
vincenzo is EXCELLENT, dessert person editor (hal, I’m assuming)!!! you have excellent taste
claire is literally the only person on this planet i dont hate and trust with my life
I love every thing about this. Every minute. Every dirty look to Vince. Every detail you swore you wouldn't do. Every hour past 2. Perfection--including the house. :)
Claire is literally me 💕 I cackled out loud when she said the theme for her gingerbread house was originally 'an English Tutor style mansion' because of the delusion - it's like level 10 difficulty just to make a gingerbread doghouse, let alone a gingerbread English Tutor mansion. it's the same kind of delusion that causes me to walk up to a rack of jeans at the store, pick up a size 2 (even though I know I'm an 8 in size AT LEAST) then really act shocked and scandalized in the dressing room when they won't go on. the delusion, I love it.
It’s English Tudor, as in from the Tudor period.
TikTok has fully broken my brain, because every time Claire said, "oh no!" I expected her to say "our table, it's broken."
Claire, nobody else is putting this much effort into a gingerbread house. You win! 😅 it’s honestly a masterpiece.
Claire you know this is exactly what we’ve been waiting for
