One I would like to add: a 1L bottle of gasoline I say this one because you will at some point underestimate the distance to the next gasstation Having this little 1L bottle with you can get you 40-ish kilometres further and even if you never need it you might someday see a lone biker pushing his bike at the side of the road and you will be there like a true saint and offer to help, he will turn out to be the son of a multi-billionaire who would love you to come work at his company in the board of directors, basically doing nothing. It is on one of your many paid vacations every year you meet the most beautiful girl or guy ever, who also loves to ride bikes and will instantly fall in love with you. And all that because you once had a bottle of gasoline with you.
I actually had this moment, i just bought a 1 gal jerry can yesterday for tour today & on my ride i found a guy that had run out ot fuel pushing a HD Superglide towards the gas station. He had another mile till the station so i gave him the gas.
Earplugs! Totally I agree! I remember my first ride as a backpack (passenger) after 400km when I returned home and sat down to chill, I had so many sounds in my Head, even I had the phantom feeling of my body going to take a turn left or right. So bad. Also I remember when I tried my first highest speed (245km/h). No matter how good helmet you will have, the power of the wind while riding such a high speeds - It is loud. If that's your first time on the motorcycle remember to hold your driver strongly with legs and hold your head as much as you can. For me I wasn't use to the position and the weight of the helmet. But the comfortableness comes with the time.
"essential beginner accessories" starts rambling on about track gear and dedicated $150 motorcycle backpacks xD What about something like a cargo net or straps to secure cargo on the back of your bike, in case you ever have to carry something that wont fit in a backpack? (done this myself many times). It's cheap and easy to use. Or maybe adjustable leavers? I don't have problem with my factory leavers, but I hear from many people that having some that can be adjusted to your liking makes it much easier and more comfortable riding (which would be great if you are new). You could even go as far to say "new ecu mapping" just to optimize fuel delivery and eliminate any possible fueling issues that your engine might have from stock ecu map. Not really an accessory, but a mod none the less that can really optimize your bike.
They sell a pair of earplugs at Walmart for about $15 that fits pretty well and only filters out harmful noise I use it while shooting and you can still hear everything around you clearly it only blocks loud noises
#6 DUCT TAPE Same idea as zip ties, but better in some cases. I was riding from Pittsburgh to DC once, and my license plate bracket broke off on the highway in the middle of nowhere in Maryland. Duct taped the plate to my fender. Inelegant for sure, but sure as hell saved me an annoying time trying to figure out a fix.
On board air compressor has to be The Cyclepump from Best Rest Products. Made in America so a little on the expensive side (bout $150 for pump- lifetime warranty, and their gauge combo) but guaranteed and probably the last one you'll ever buy.
The custom earplugs are worth it if you're going to be sticking plugs in frequently. Firstly, they are more effective than regular foam plugs (unless you take a couple minutes to put those in correctly), and they are much quicker. Very convenient.
Dear papa Yammie can you do an updated version of this video? Also should you get the latest motorcycle equipment / accessories or can you go with the older ones , 2 years / 3 years ?
Ear plugs are great i have tried all sorts and honestly the foam disposable ones are just the best they actually fit and work better than the expensive ones
Are tank bags no longer a thing anymore? I would add a visor cloth and cleaner (tiny bottle) good for sun/prescription glasses too. I think I've used that more than anything else out in the wasteland. A small roll of toilet paper can come in handy, there are specially made ones that are compact and sealed. Small can of chain lube, maybe some mini jumper cables too. All this varies if you are doing a day or multi-day trip. I second the electrical tape for the visor, especially if you are like me and left your new pair of shades somewhere on PCH three days into a trip...
I use a 12 liter Cortech Super 2.0 tank bag. Decent sized tailbag/small backpack. Anything that I need to bring that won't fit/if it's going to rain, I have a Sedici Veneto (25l expandable to 40 for the main compartment) for anything else. Big enough to fit clothes and shoes for a week on top of everything else I normally bring. Personally I hate using backpacks while riding
Some more specific advice : Get the silicone earplugs, dont even bother with the foam ones. the sena SMH5 can be picked up for less than $100 and will what most people need. 12v inflators are super cheap, just need some battery connector/adaptor. If you have a battery tender, they make an sae to 12v adaptor
A video yesterday AND a video today !? Thank god man, I was afraid of having to go another week or longer without a Yamster upload. Gotta have my fix of motorcycle uploads or be forced to browse Instagram for short repetitive videos of people falling off wheelies and looping on the track
@L 024 I'm having similar thoughts. But riders I know all tell me to not buy a real monster at first, bcz you need to learn to ride and also chances of you tearing your machine apart are very high if you are a new ride like me haha😂😢
forget back.packs they can cause serious injuries to a rider rolling or sliding down the tarmac!.get some hard panniers givii are pretty good and the fixings come witk.a solid carrier a third case, or camping gear can be strapped on to in a bag of course! after that in britain heated handle bar grips are a must!
I'd add a roll of electrical tape. It's compact, sometimes works better than zip ties (sometimes not). And I've also used it to make a strip across the top of my visor to block the sun as it is setting, then just remove when no longer needed.
Yammie Noob Hey yamster! Just wanted to add a quick note on the zip ties. Years of experience working on cars trucks and bikes has taught me that HIGH QUALITY zip ties will save you a lot of headache! Cheap ones will often break around mildly sharp corners and cannot be cranked down very tight. Nothing worse than getting a zip tie fastened into a very tricky spot and having it break as soon as you tighten it down. It's really the difference between 5 and 10 bucks!
Remember tire pressure is important. My dad used to ride and would constantly see many people with low tire pressure or really high tire pressure. Depending on how big the tire is a good range is 30 to 40 psi.
I'm in the lower end of the teenage years and I've been thinking about riding when I'm older (haven't talked to parents about it yet) But if I do I don't know if I should get a regular drivers license first. Just thought I'd ask you guys what you think
The only things I don't have on that list is ear plugs cause I ware in ear noise cancelling headphones which are pretty good an a backpack cause I have a lunchbox constantly fitted to the rear of my motorcycle
Hi Yammi! I love the street triple but my friends have tempted me to get MT 07 which looks like a good bargain and a hell fun! What do you think? Beginner naked bike vid? Triple, MT07 and SV650? Love the triple but the yammi is far cheaper and not that far behind on performance and styling!
Screw the compressor get a good foot bicycle pump. Dose the job just as good and is ready on the fly and can fit into a back pack. Not mention it's way cheaper.
Or you can buy any bag that has a decent chest strap and you can also buy non disposable ear plugs off the shelf. Guages don't stay accurate so if you have a guage you should get it checked once a year esp if you carry it on your bike because it is vibrating all day long.
Yea I don't get it either. Why not just get a cheap wintersports (ski or snowboard) backpack, these always have one or two straps for chest and stomach strapping, and will work as well as any dedicated motorcycle backpack (and often have more room or usability without looking too "rider" ish if you also wanna use it daily when you are not riding).
Get a pair of weed-whackin ear plugs, the plastic tube with silcone ribs (4 of them is the best you can normally find) i work in a detail shop and let me tell you 4 guys using blowers that are so loud you cant even shout over them is a decent barometer for dangerously loud sound, also one pair can he used continuesly and i find them to be more comfortable
I wired up a usb port on my bike, I consider that and a phone/gps mount essential. Also a bottle of fuel can be a life saver. I've heard bad things about Sena 20s like it always disconnects mainly.....have they fixed this in the new models?
Tip (particularly useful for military personnel as you should already have a few): BOBs are GREAT for riding backpacks. You can easily pick up a really nice one for 60 bucks. I’ve been doing this for years and years.
My bikes vibration and noise is too much and i could prefer ear plugs inside my helmet to muffle but is there any way I'd get notified of incoming phone calls? Bluetooth earplugs? Nope faulty disconnects most of the time and doesn't fit inside a helmet.
Nice vid Jamie poop! ... best acc: the zip ties. But I'd rather go to a gas station to check the tires' pressure instead of spending on a big compressor

If you only occasionally ride (less than ~28 days per month) or just stick to weekends/racing, I could see some of these not being applicable

Earplugs are for wind noise, you won't need earplugs however if you decided to be protected by a helmet
Zipties are a top 10 invention of all time.
caleb aucoin they're honestly so underrated
Add gorilla tape to that list. No joke I saw a roll of that stuff temporarily repair a snapped dump truck drive shaft.

As an ASE master certified zip tie mechanic, I can confirm that zip ties are essential.

"half the battle is looking dope" that's why I have slaps on my helmet.

Ear plugs + Sena = does it work?
works fine, I wear ear plugs with my Sena all the time, still clear comms and music.
Yep. My sena sounds fine with earplugs in. Music and phone calls.
Eargasm work amazing for that...makes the sounds from sena sound so much better
This was my question. 🤣👍
Or just get a quiet helmet?
The custom earplugs are worth it if you're going to be sticking plugs in frequently. Firstly, they are more effective than regular foam plugs (unless you take a couple minutes to put those in correctly), and they are much quicker. Very convenient.
If it takes you more than 20 seconds to correctly put in two ear plugs, you are doing it wrong. Save your custom ear plug money.
Who would win? A Sena 20s vs some rain?
I've worn a sena 20s is some pretty heavy rain, which I rode through for 4 hours. No problems.
Just throw a plastic bag over it then it's all gud

A gun lock. Very useful for locking your helmet securely to the passenger peg when you park, and it fits in your tiny trunk.

IMO, a basic bicycle pump is much easier than an air compressor for setting air pressure.
