Traveler16 wouldn’t say it’s confusing, it’s pretty straight forward. You don’t get a perfect lie and it’s often well over 200 yards which is further than most par 3s. Lot harder to make that then a 150 yard shot off a tee.
You have to hit two great shots in a row. Most par 5's are usually at least 450 yards or longer so you have to hit a fairly long tee shot and follow that up with a fairly long approach shot into the hole. With a hole-in-one you can get lucky on one shot. I've seen a guy hit a worm burner into the hole.
I've played a lot of sports growing up and every sport has a feeling of pure bliss. A perfect three pointer in basketball, you can tell when it leaves your hand it's going in and it splashes with that divine swish sound. A perfect throw of a football, where the spiral is tight and the ball just effortlessly soars through the air right into your buddies hands.. etc. But in my opinion nothing matches up to a perfect iron shot from 150+ yards away. The way the club feels like it almost never even touched the ball. The clicking sound the club makes when you pinch the ball off of the fairway and the way the ball just climbs into the air like a fucking rocket. When it lands on the green and just sits right next to the hole. The feeling is incomparable to me. I fucking love that game.

Ninja Please you are a golf pro? What would you tell someone that had a slice on their irons and driver and after watching videos they have no slice on their irons and their slice went dramatically down on the driver but it’s still partially there. I’m assuming it has something to do with the fact that a driver is more of a sweep swing and a longer club but idk what to do.
@@colbywalker5301 I'm not a pro but I used to slice my driver every single shot. Try turning your hands inwards a bit while gripping the club and then swing slower until you find that sweet spot that doesn't hook or slice. Then gradually speed your swing up until its comfortable and you're happy with both the accuracy and distance. Often the reason people slice is that when the swing, their hands turn and inadvertently open the face
The problem with getting a perfect golf swing, for those of you who don't know, is that actually perfecting your swing is only a fraction of the process. For pro golfers, they can generally hit the ball exactly where they are aiming pretty consistently, barring injury of course. The real challenge of golf is in your judgement. How fast is the wind blowing, what will the ball do when it lands? What if the flag is too far way for your 7-iron but too close for your 6-iron. Do you try and give some extra strength to your 7-iron and risk making a bad shot, or do you swing your 6-iron at 3/4 strength? Are you confident enough in your non-full strength shots to even try something like that? Or do you just play safe and go with the 7-iron and deal with the resulting longer putt? That just a single shot. Every shot in golf is like that. You can play the same course for 20 years and likely never come across two identical shot situations.

The story Ron tells about his friend is why I love golf. 6 years ago I got to golf with my grandfather for the first and only time and this reminds me so much of the amazing time we had. Up until the day he died he always said how happy he was to be able to play again.
When I was a kid, I lived beside a golf course. There was a hole by the road that was hidden from the tee. We'd use to wait for the ball to roll on the green, we'd grab it and put it in the cup and take off. We created some great stories for a few guys.
This is the most wholesome trolling I have ever heard of lol you didnt just make someone's day, you created a lifetime of storytelling and memories. Forever he will remember that day. Amazing.
We had a quarry next to the local golf course in my town back in the early 80s, Some weekends we used to take our pellet guns to the quarry and shoot the balls off the tees whilst the golfers were teeing off :)
There was an episode of My Name is Earl where they'd do this (to the same guy over and over again) because he'd buy everyone in the clubhouse a round after he "got a hole in one." It ended up driving the guy insane because he quit his job and tried to go pro. He couldn't figure out why he sucked playing anywhere but on that course. Hope you didn't accidentally do the same thing, lol
R.I.P, Ron's old friend. I didn't catch his name. Glad he got his last successful swings in before he passed away. He's probably playing golf right now.
i can see joe being hyper focused on golf when he gets older, like working out its all about progress breaking your personal best round, drive, or how low you can score and how good you can get it truly is an endless pursuit of perfection.
Mr. Rogan, I am a college golfer that lives in Oklahoma, first of all I absolutely love the fact that you are so humble, vulnerable, and willing to learn new things that you do not know about. (Golf) next is he accidentally said that a double eagle is less rare.. a double eagle or albatross as we say in golf.. is way way way more rare than an Ace. I have played thousands and thousands of rounds of golf and I am “decent” and I have never made a 1.. my last tournament round a shot 4 under par and my last hole was a par 3 and I hit it to about an inch.. closest I’ve ever been lol bittersweet because it didn’t go in but nice to hit your last shot of the round to an inch and have no pressure on the putt to shoot -4.. love your podcast especially this one because I can relate
People that don’t play don’t understand! This is a old mans game as well as a young mans game! It’s the best game ever created. It might look leisurely but you are going at that ball as hard as you can!
True, some golfers nut the ball but the fine art is developing a smooth, effortless swing imo. Ask Couples, Els, Oosthuizen, Singh etc. if they kill the ball. That being said, golf is awesome and for all age groups. People that don't play truly don't understand.
Joe doesn’t understand not only is there nothing like a hi1 in all other sports, but there really is nothing better than the satisfaction of hitting a flush golf shot and having the ball do almost exactly what you envision it to have done. The combination of that satisfying compressed golf ball feeling off the face and and good result because of it is the best overall feeling in the world. And the absurdity of the game and the part that fascinates me is that you can hit that flush shot, get that instant satisfaction all for it to be slightly ruined because club was positioned 1 degree differently and the ball has landed in trouble.
You might argue that the first punch/kick/flying knee (take your pick) thrown in a fight that results in a knockout would be equivalent to a hole in one.
When I used to play golf I was also filled with joy whenever I made a par, but it wasn't because I was dying of cancer. It was because I was a really, really bad golfer.
When Alice Cooper wanted to give up his addiction to drugs and alcohol he needed to do something more addictive then both of them so he took up playing golf.
I'm too lazy to research it, but it seems that him and Glenn Campbell, the country music legend, and another man who struggled with addiction, played all the time together.
One of the hardest sports out there to master. And definitely one of the most frustrating too. No matter how good you are at golf, a bad shots always right around the corner
Took up golf a couple years ago, haven't played a full round yet, just the range. Been going once or twice a week. About ready for a round. But yes, golf is the biggest mind fuck with some absolutely awesome rewards as well. Glad I got into it at this point in life. It gives me new meaning and a new perspective on life. Love it.
stylz1 play a 9 hole or go play late in the day with a buddy when it's quiet. As soon as you've played once... You'll play a round again soon and get over the fear. I've just started again... I'm Nervous going round - I'm awful. But i love it. Good luck to you
Perfect game in the MLB is about the closest equivalent to a hole in one. 27 batters, 27 outs, no walks no errors no nothing but outs. 23 perfect games in MLB history
Great par. Every par is a great par, but still - some pars are greater than others. Thanks for the story, Ron. Worthy of Harvey Pennick's little red book man.
I'll never be a golf fan, but I can say this much about it, which I respect: it's not one of those physical activities where if you're have a bad game, you can just say to yourself try harder next time. You can't make up an execution deficit with additional effort.
I love golf. It is the hardest most technical sport you will ever play. It keeps me coming back over and over again. Nothing like being out there smell of fresh cut grass out there with your buddies nothing like it.
I would say snooker is harder and more technical than golf, due to the smaller margin of error on every shot, compared to that mainly only being the case when putting in golf.
Sean Scanlon I don’t know much about snooker but it can’t be as mentally taxing as golf. And the thing about golf is it’s margin of error fluctuates based on what you put into it and what the course gives you. You can’t go play snooker by yourself and feel completely beaten down if you play bad. You aren’t playing against the physical table you’re playing on you’re playing an opponent. The luck factor is also heavy in golf like no other sport.
Dom Johnson but that wouldn't make any sense why clips would be needed, it's pretty irresponsible to be surfing through clips every few minutes when you could just pop on the podcast and not have to worry about using your phone while driving at all
Ron misspoke when he said that a double eagle is "way less rare" instead of "way more rare", because it is so much more rare. it made the rest of his explanation confusing because he was saying how it's easier to get a hole in one on a par 3 because it could be like a 100 yard shot or less but told joe accidentally that it was way less rare. the double eagle would not only be better on the scorecard than a conventional hole in one on a par 3 (which is just an eagle), but the shot would likely have to be holed from well over 200 yards away. A double eagle can also be a hole in one on a par 4. The odds of holing a shot are better the closer you are to the hole, so naturally a double eagle is the harder of the two. On tour every week some guy will probably get a hole in one, but maybe once a year on average you might see a tour player get a double eagle.
Odds of a hole in one; Average golfer: 12,500:1 Tour professional: 2,500:1 Odds of a double eagle(Albatross): roughly 6 million:1 More fun facts; Odds of two players in the same foursome making a hole in one on the same hole 17 million:1 Odds of one player making two hole in ones in the same round 67 million:1 A "Condor" or hole in one on a par 5 has actually been recorded but the odds of that feat happening are far to rare to put a logical number on it. Thanks for listening to my TED Talk
You can't put odds on things that require skill. It's not random that Tiger Woods will have more lifetime holes in one than I will. He practices every day to increase his likelihood of succeeding. Statistics are not the same as probabilities.
I shit on golf my whole life and last year my buddy dragged me out to the course after years of asking... Since then I bought some second hand clubs and have been playing regularly... LOL

People that don't bowl could NEVER understand how fucking hard that is. Every strike after the 8th frame in the first game would feel like your body is trying to shut down, haha.
I get you’ve never been good at sports so I’ll give you a break. Catching a ball requires fine motor skills, especially when you’re doing it running full speed, the same goes with throwing a spiralled ball in the same situation. Kicking ball on the run accurately between two posts requires fine motor skills. You lost this one bud.

Joe 2019 : Wow that’s craaazyy , have you ever tried DMT ?
Joe 2022 : Wow that’s craaazyy , have you ever tried golf ?
You telling me joe rogan lives in california and he isnt smokin doobs on the fairway on the daily? Smh
You need to play golf to smoke joints on a fairway, friend.
Agreed. I don’t get it. Even the feeling I get being out on a golf course is as close to heaven I will ever get. I like boxing too etc.. but it is dimensions behind the mystery and magic of golf..
Nathan Bracey What a Beta hey
3:30... it’s called an albatross damnit
More rare than a hole in one=>
Baseball: Unassisted Triple Play also a Perfect Game.
Basketball: Quadruple Double or a 50+ point game.

Soccer: Goalie Scoring
Bowling: Perfect Series (3 perfect games in a row).
Darts: 9 Dart finish.
Edit: Football: 250yds rushing in 1 game.
I started playing golf after hearing this.
Never knew Ron White was a golfer. Was one of my favorite comedians. Now is without a doubt my favorite comedian ever!
WOW YOUR FAVORITE COMEDIAN AND DIDNT KNOW HE GOLFED FOR 25 YEARS EVERYDAY
Yeah pretty pathetic ain’t it.
A 900 series in bowling... Sanctioned!!!
Amazing.
and we’d replace their ball with marshmallows. different parents i guess ;)
@@chad2831, nice touch.
If his friend is dead, they're not doing anything. They're fucking dead.
Hay Knee yep there’s always that one sorry asshole in the comments, you need to get a life loser lol
That is technically correct.
Ron is a true road warrior, he outlasted so many comics
i can see joe being hyper focused on golf when he gets older, like working out its all about progress breaking your personal best round, drive, or how low you can score and how good you can get it truly is an endless pursuit of perfection.
Abraham Ancer is a freakin legend !
How amazingly awkward would Tiger be on this podcast
I never thought Ron would make me cry over a serious story and not a joke.
If you're "going at that ball as hard as you can", you're doing it wrong
It’s a lot like drugs. You’re better off not getting started.
Let’s get Tiger Woods on the podcast!! Joe rogan would love all that focus mind stuff an Tiger is the king of it.. and likes to party
Yeah, a regular bogey is a good hole for me.
When Alice Cooper wanted to give up his addiction to drugs and alcohol he needed to do something more addictive then both of them so he took up playing golf.
He has a plaque outside of the clubhouse at Arizona Biltmore.
I'm too lazy to research it, but it seems that him and Glenn Campbell, the country music legend, and another man who struggled with addiction, played all the time together.
Started playing in 2016 and I’m finally hitting the odd birdie and regular pars, love the game! It’s the best feeling being out on the green
Greatest game I've ever participated in.. love it.. but in the winter you have golf simulators and they are also great.. and you can do it indoors..
Rogan honestly knows nothing about the four major sports
Why would he. The UFC pays him millions
Golf over hockey as #4??
WindBreaker golf over baseball for sure, hockey is great
Mr White is my all time favorite comic. I also love how he is never afraid to tell people how he feels regardless of what they think of him. Great man
Great idea, invite Daley. He would be a hilarious guest. We could all learn a lot about golf and life on the tour.
What a beautiful moment Ron had with his friend !
One of the hardest sports out there to master. And definitely one of the most frustrating too. No matter how good you are at golf, a bad shots always right around the corner
Snooker players can get a 147 break. Also dart players can get a 9 dart finish
Wert I wonder why Joe wouldn’t have pro pool player on. Hrm...
But those are a bunch of good shots in a row, not one perfect one. I think thats what he means.
Uh perfect game?? Baseball?
Took up golf a couple years ago, haven't played a full round yet, just the range. Been going once or twice a week. About ready for a round. But yes, golf is the biggest mind fuck with some absolutely awesome rewards as well. Glad I got into it at this point in life. It gives me new meaning and a new perspective on life. Love it.
stylz1 play a 9 hole or go play late in the day with a buddy when it's quiet. As soon as you've played once... You'll play a round again soon and get over the fear. I've just started again... I'm Nervous going round - I'm awful. But i love it. Good luck to you
@@stuboy13 Thanks. I'm ready.
I don't think my life would be complete, unless I had found the game of golf.
Perfect game in the MLB is about the closest equivalent to a hole in one. 27 batters, 27 outs, no walks no errors no nothing but outs. 23 perfect games in MLB history
“That’s golf”⛳️🏌️♀️🌞
Abraham Ancer is currently ranked #20 in the world 🌎 In Golf ⛳️ as of 10/26/20 (he is 29)
Odds of hole in one for a Pro is 12,500 to 1
Great par. Every par is a great par, but still - some pars are greater than others. Thanks for the story, Ron. Worthy of Harvey Pennick's little red book man.
Abraham ancer won the Australian open 2018 👍 🇦🇺
I had my first hole in one a few months ago. It's the most LIT white dude moment ever
Buddys name is chad lmao
Connor Mills “Connor”
Most lit no ethnicity needed moments for anyone ever. Been playing since 13 still don’t have 1.
Congrats!
Bro if you want them real lit white moments you gotta play disc golf instead
His story at the end made me cry
The luck factor is also heavy in golf like no other sport.
damn bro the podcast hasnt even ended yet. how high is the demand for immediate joe rogan clips?
fruitypeebils very high. Millions of people in traffic on the way home from work who love to listen to joe and his guests.
Dom Johnson but that wouldn't make any sense why clips would be needed, it's pretty irresponsible to be surfing through clips every few minutes when you could just pop on the podcast and not have to worry about using your phone while driving at all
Thebassinkid. and yet people still do it
More clips more money, dummy.
"Must be a 1000/1 or 1000000/1" joe can be my bookie.
I just like the Pic for this Clip, Joe’s face looks so serious.. Ron White explains golf
Double eagle is more rare than a hole in one.
He justexplained the oposite🤓
Of course it is. Ron basically said the same thing.
Odds of a hole in one; Average golfer: 12,500:1 Tour professional: 2,500:1
Odds of a double eagle(Albatross): roughly 6 million:1
More fun facts;
Odds of two players in the same foursome making a hole in one on the same hole 17 million:1
Odds of one player making two hole in ones in the same round 67 million:1
A "Condor" or hole in one on a par 5 has actually been recorded but the odds of that feat happening are far to rare to put a logical number on it.
Thanks for listening to my TED Talk
A member at my club made two hole in ones in the same round. Crazy stuff. Seems like a lot of old guys do
chance of my giving you a thumbs up 672 million:1
800lb Gorilla so you’re telling him there’s a chance....
Or a 2 on the elusive par 6
You can't put odds on things that require skill. It's not random that Tiger Woods will have more lifetime holes in one than I will. He practices every day to increase his likelihood of succeeding. Statistics are not the same as probabilities.
Haha I got back into golf this year regularly since I was 13 going to the golf course everyday and now I’m consumed with getting better.
Once you chip in for the first time, you’re hooked. I love golfing.
I shit on golf my whole life and last year my buddy dragged me out to the course after years of asking... Since then I bought some second hand clubs and have been playing regularly... LOL
Hey Joe how about a 900 series in bowling? Only 27 recorded since the 1800s
" To date, 33 individuals have bowled a total of 34 certified 900 series (that is, 900s that have been officially recognized by the United States Bowling Congress, the sport's national governing body in the United States)." that's just the ones that are recognized by the U.S. Bowling Congres.....
Damn who did it twice
People that don't bowl could NEVER understand how fucking hard that is. Every strike after the 8th frame in the first game would feel like your body is trying to shut down, haha.
There's nothing that works out so perfect in sports... Joe ever hear of a PERFECT game
CZcams suggestions are too much ! Been watching golf highlights and I get this ))
$500 a week...
I’ll take it
Joe brother can't believe you're not more of a golfer.. Golf essentially is eerily similar to a big game of outdoor pool with obstacles
Golf is nothing like pool, you've never played golf.
I don't know what you think golf is. But it's not that. Honestly, it's probably more complex than you could imagine.
@@sweetswing1 Every professional athletes needs fine motor skills, patience, focus & self control. So Rugby is similar to golf? Stupid comment.
Faksakes Actually, my examples are precisely what fine motor skills are.
Beautiful story!
Golf is a test of where your mind is at. You will find out on the course. Love the sport.
This guy is the embodiment of what would exist if a pack of cigarettes and a bottle of whiskey came to life and then had a baby lol
The “Big Guys” certainly do not have 16, 17, or 18 holes in one in their lifetime.
10 is the PGA record
Not in tour events but through all their lifetime play it’s something like that
Depends. What they mean. In tournaments? No. In practice, sure.
DJ has 18 ish, Tiger has over 20 so i'd say that yeah the "Big Guys" do get to those numbers
With my brother-in-law coaching, I had my one and only eagle. And he said, "I've created a Frankenstein!" Good days. We all need some good days.
No matter how crude or dirty Ron White is in his act, which I find fucking hilarious, the man is a free and beautiful soul. To cherish the memory of his friend and retell it in such a succinct but joyful way really touched me. Fuck Cancer.
