I bought a Z8 after waiting forever for the 6iii, so I'm good. Frankly, had I waited until all the details were released, I still would have upgraded to the Z8; I came to realize I need the extra pixels.

The two areas where the z6iii has an advantage over the Z8/Z9 are low-light/Astro and camera weight. I am still in two minds about getting a second body, but I think pairing a low-mega-pixel low-light camera like the z6iii with my 800mm PF will allow me to stay a few more minutes in the evening. With the 800mm, I rarely do cropping, so a 24mp sensor could work.

My only suggestion is to get hold of a Z6III and test the low light autofocus and image capture in comparison with the Z9. We don’t know yet because we haven’t seen enough hands on evaluations of the camera. Nevertheless, you may discover with the Z6III opportunities to extend your shooting days and grab blue hour shots that are otherwise too noisy on the 45 megapixel sensor. Time will tell.

Thanks for the content. Love the channel. The most important thing I learned about bird photography: you have to be close to the bird, either physically or optically. I choose the best lenses and concealment equipment and travel, I can buy . I don't care much about the rest: DSLR, mirrorless, full frame, MFT, large format, rolling shutter, stack sensor, partial stack sensor, 120 fps etc. etc. There is no end to purchasing.

Enjoying your videos Alan. One question I have for you that I haven't seem to hear you mention, but so many other channels do complain about this with the ZF... How do you feel with the long lenses and the lack of grip on the ZF? I lean so much towards that camera body, but have not gone through with getting it because of all the noise and negative chatter on channels complaining about the grip and handholding specifically. You as a wildlife and bird photographer, are putting way longer and heavier lenses than I probably would, so your thoughts on that would be nice to hear. For myself I prefer landscape and some street/cityscape photography. I'd probably go wide lens and I really liking the z24-70mm 2.8 lens. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I think the body is just fine for me. I do have a smallrig grip on it, but it isn’t that big. I might feel differently if I used it as my primary all day with a telephoto but as of now I think its fine enough for me.

I'm anxious to try out the viewfinder. The manual focus enhancements I believe are carrying over from the Zf as well.

Z6iii is more a video camera than a hybrid one.

I thought you might put this video out after I got in touch with you on the 24mp thing...every Nikon I have owned have been 24mp. Thanks for posting this video

Nice video and good reasoning as I am in the same boat as you. Would rather stick with the trusty Zf. Am wondering though as I am preparing a trip if you see, do you have a favorite charger for your Zf battery?

At home I just use the standard issue charger for the EN-ELc but while traveling I use usb-c and a powerbank.
