    I’m lonely in my hometown. Loneliness at a National Park would probably be better. At least I would be closer to my main homegirl Mother Nature!

    My whole life I've been such an indoor person. I don't have a lot of friends and I spend so much time reading but I'm 24,I want to skiing, I want to learn to snowboard, go mountain biking, learn to rock climb, play an unhealthy amount of golf and live while I'm young enough to do so

      I never really comment on CZcams videos but wow this is crazy. I am also a very indoors person / usually inclined towards cities, mostly a loner that hangs out with books and my kitties… I’m also 24 and just recently have started hiking, in a few weeks I’ll go fishing and kayaking. This year I’m really trying to do at least 1 outdoors thing every month!!
      Really glad to find someone in literally the same situation

      I hope you got to do these things. I’m 25 and I feel the same way. I’m very introverted but I want to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself. I’m so scared lol, I applied to the Grand Canyon for a seasonal job and my interview is in 2 days. I’m so excited but I want to do all the things you listed too! I really hope you’re having fun now 🙂

    The "be outgoing" bit is a little intimidating, but I totally agree with the "take the good with the bad" philosophy. I'm awaiting approval to work in Yellowstone. I like your message of ' The Loneliest, and best of times', and you can't have one without the other.

I’m looking to start new job spring of 2021 I’m looking into Yellowstone/Glacier/Crater lake Oregon and anything north Washington but Mt Rainer is best I’ve seen for Washington! Would definitely love to have a contact if possible life is all about networking... if it matters I’m 26 y/o from easy coast with custodial maintenance and library work experience no drugs no bad history just looking to get away from NJ traffic and bad attitudes plus working at a beautiful National park is a DREAM of mind I’ll do any work pretty much! Would appreciate a response if you see this and again good luck to you stranger!

    I am sure I'm gonna feel the homesickness for a short time and feel like I am loney since it would the first time I start working a season job. My main problem was always a lack of friends cause accept when at church, as I was home-schooled mostly and where I am at in California is not a good place to make friends with other young adult people as to many of them either have the blank look attitude, or just not so friendly at all. And this makes it hard to have a to communicate with people outside of family and people I know at church.

    I was encouraged to try this option out as a way to get out of my current career and start travelling. But I'm just worried that it would reflect poorly on paper as I'm 27 with a bachelor's degree and have already been in a career field but it is going nowhere and I'm just not satisfied anymore. Is it worth it to take this leap?

    • @earthandwind820
      @earthandwind820 Před 2 lety +1

      You can take a year hiatus and later explain to the more “serious folks” that it was a year you sought to grow in a different light. Keep a list/journal of all the things/skills/mindsets you’re learning throughout the process & how those skills can contribute and bring a different perspective to whatever “serious” job you’ll later probably go back into.
      That or maybe you want to combine your career skills with what you learn at a National park to create something new.

    • @earthandwind820

      Depends on the people. I worked at state parks in NY/NJ and people were super nice and open. They would constantly invite me to restaurants, hikes & trips to the city. I never asked, they always offered and did so very naturally without making me feel like I was imposing or a bother. There were about 20 of us.
      Meanwhile in Wyoming, I was initially miserable. There were about 10 workers. Half knew each other from previous years and the other half, acted like a high school click. They never gave me a chance and till this day it puzzles me, as I always try to be nice and polite to others. I had literally never been treated like that in my life. In other words, I was a third wheel and spent way too much time sitting outside alone staring at the lake or reading. I felt left out and disappointed with my experience; I could’ve just stayed home & made more $ and not have my life insulted by close-minded people. When I moved on to work with the same company, but the main location, with about 100 employees, people were radically different. They were so kind, open & sincere. They invited me places my very first day there and were so nice about it. I saw more things my first two weeks there, then I ever did with the two click-ish groups at the other location.
      That’s complicated though cause going somewhere with not a lot of employees, risks you getting stuck with people who aren’t as open-minded aka not invited many places/feeling alone. With a medium amount of employees, if a group of 3-4 decide to dislike you for no good reason, there’s still plenty of fish in the sea. And yet, my fav experience was in NY/NJ - they were the most open, but we only had about 20 people.
      So it’s hit or miss. If you’re super worried about it, I’d say go somewhere where there are more people because you’re bound to be invited by some of them naturally as opposed to places with less people, where you’re crossing your fingers that the people there are empathetic and open-minded.

    • @StockyDude
      @StockyDude Před 3 lety +2

      I’m not a seasonal worker but a military vet with multiple deployments under my belt. My advice: always pack light, so that you’ll have more room for souvenirs. Forget the TV, just use your laptop. Also, think of the long months and long working hours away from home as a form of meditation. It helps you to really appreciate your hometown/state (wherever it may be) for what it is.

    • @earthandwind820
      @earthandwind820 Před 2 lety

      Depends what the trade is! A lot of parks have lodging or federal buildings in need of maintenance for example. Or some of the parks have convenience stores and need people who comprehend inventory, logistics.
      There are jobs beyond biologists and servers is what I’m getting at. You’d have to look at what’s within the park and what jobs could possibly be needed. At some parks, there are places to stay beyond camping grounds, some parks have gas stations/convenience stores and others do not, some have lodging, some do not. Some are very busy and others are not, some get massive amounts of severe weather and others do not.
