Never thought i would see a t&f iceberg
We needed this video
fucking belive it
“Kelvin Kiptum was…” still gets me, like man I can’t believe he’s really gone
Absolutely gut wrenching, poor baby never even saw his first Olympics 😢
"Sub 19 for a 200 is not fast, its just not fast"
It’s Actually pretty easy. Just get some tacos.

bro got FIRED for being an emphatic commentator? man the early 20th century was wild
Maybe that’s why current commentators are so flat, seriously though, watching the NCAA indoor championship this year with its commentary did not do the athletes justice for their racing
His excitement on that clip is awesome LOL, I love it
like what's wrong with that?? get hype! that boy can run!!!
dude fr. like i would be like that emphatic comentator bc even just that 1 clip made the event way more interesting. now its boring as shit bc you cant yell and stuff
BYU split shorts have to be added in their own tier
These videos are WAY better than most running channels. Underrated for sure!
You're actually so underrated, glad to see you finally got the thanks feature!
I would add the 1984 Women's Olympic Marathon somewhere near the top. The combination of the first women's marathon at the Olympics, Joan Benoit becoming a star with her win, and Gabriela Andersen-Schiess becoming an icon by stumbling into the stadium exhausted but persevering to complete the race.
need xc iceburg next
Is imagine 99% would be underwater 💀
would be all underwater
27:54 - Anita Włodarczyk:
First of all, thanks for taking effort in correctly pronouncing the name, you did a solid job on that! And to the point, there is a very hilarious story that also explains why in the most recent World Champs 2023 she did not pass the qualification round. So for all those of you wondering:
Around June 2022, she was doing...idk, whatever, but then while returning to her car to go back home, she noticed something suspicious. There was a guy breaking into her car in plain daylight and robbing it of all its valuables. So she decided in an instant to run after the guy to solve this problem on her own. He started running away seeing her, but she got him and, well, beat the crap out of the robber :D Unfortunately, due to that action, she torn some muscle in her arm while fighting him and that resulted in a long injury. She only got back from the injury a short time before the World Champs and therefore was in no shape to qualify further. But think from the robber's perspective for a second: you're breaking into a car, looting it, it belongs to a woman...and you're so unlucky that this woman is the best hammer thrower of all time, literally one of the strongest women to walk the earth and she overpowers you like a kid. That is some *serious* bad luck to rob her out of all the women on earth xD
You know what this means: an annual T&F iceberg. Looking forward to it!
To add a point about Anita Włodarczyk, she missed out on most of 2022 season (mainly, that years World and European championships) because she got injured catching a thief that tried to stole her car at 2022 Polish Championships
yoo hell yeah 1 hour of entertainment thank you!
track and field iceberg is crazy, excited tho
The new gen thing seems to be pretty lowkey and not much people noticed their “cancellation” it’d be cool to see a more in depth analysis of this
Might be the most niche iceberg
runnerboi, from me discovering you through a certain game showcase and discovering a hobby that I would still enjoy to this day, and now seeing the amount of effort that you put into these videos in a sport that has given me many opportunities, thank you for your continued hard work in the communities that you make videos for!
The Chinese sprinter breaking the 60m record in 100m race is absurd. Also great video!
SUCH cool video idea. so stoked to watch this
From one boi to another, awesome video
Didn't know I needed this video.
Best running channel out there!
nice how the music gets all dark at the end
Recently found your channel and love your context and this video!
i did not realise i watched 1 hour of this vid until it was over wtf lmao, good fuckin vid, thanks for putting out content i can chill to
I got absolutely BAITED with the Infinite Threshold. Well done. All of it.
I LOVE RUNNING
incredible video!
SO EXITED
i think a huge misconception people still have at least in the general public was that bolt had a slow start when up until probably christian coleman in like 2018(including reaction time) he had the fastest start ever
Good video just got into track and field
good use of mirror's edge ost, really fitting for videos on running :)
Neat video and footage
31:10 the reason it still stands as a WR is because it was ratified (a mistake or not , it is fact) and after that point all the evidence for a wind reading cannot prove that the wind was not +2.0.
A large amount of the data was taken from wind reading from the triple jump which happened at the same time, the most likely reading at the time was around +5.0 , the wind readers did not function correctly for 10 - 15 minutes and gave wind readings of 0.0 until they warmed up so to speak, the race before Flo Jos race was also 0.0, however the equipment was not faulty and when checked afterwards for faults none were found mechanically and it gave its 0.0 reading through working parts therefore it stood even though the reading was clearly erroneous and couldve been replicated in strong winds.
It got ratified and once that happens you have to prove beyond any doubt that the result shouldnt stand, a few triple jump wind readings well within the legal limit make this an impossible record to delete as technically it couldve been +2.0 wind as it was proven that there were indeed legal wind readings that day despite many being over +4.0 and the vast majority being well above the legal limit.
And technically Flo Jos other race data shows that had she kept running at the same standards, found a +2.0 wind and a great start she was capable of legal 10.49.
I think the most damning piece of evidence for me were the statistical anomalies when it came to not just FloJo, but the other runners in the race as well. They followed a *massively* different trajectory then your traditional heats > finals curve than what most sprinters will normally have (accounting for wind too ofc)
Imo, the people who did the study in the 90's did prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the record was wind-aided. Flojo was technically capable of running 10.49 under ideal conditions, but in the Olympic Trials semis, I just can't see a valid argument other than the officials saying "no, yeah, it was working I swear guys."
To my knowledge, the IAAF hasn't even addressed this particular study either. It provides incredibly compelling evidence that highlights anomalies beyond what could reasonably happened at an event of this scale, and this is isn't even the only flawed sprint-related thing they have etched into their system (e.g. the reaction-timing rule is incredibly flawed and non-academic as well).
@@RunnerBoi yes its about 95% likely the wind was over +4.0, further evidence and examination might bring about proof that supersedes what currently stands, what I mean is the data recording process in the wind reader could prove the real speed, something defaulted the result to 0.0 but the actual wind speed data was recorded. then again minutes after the race there was a triple jump recorded around 1.2 , who knows what the average speed was over that 11 seconds of race, it would be hilarious if the wind readings were properly calculated and the result was legal, maybe a huge gust caught the runners around the 60m mark for a couple of seconds launching them to unreal times but unable to make the average over 2.0 with a big headwind coming in after Flo Jo had finished or for a few seconds before the race but still during the duration of time the wind reader was active I think its about 15 seconds, some people make the argument of a counter side wind, its all pretty ridiculous but what isnt is that it cant be proven until more developments are made and I hope they are. Thompsons 10.54 is very deserving. a video about the wind reader used in 1988 would be pretty cool, wonder how obtainable they are today and if its easy to recreate a 0.0 in windy conditions ? being informative of how they work and how they read the wind speed would be a great addition to a video about the 10.49.
Ah, okay I see what you're saying. Also the wind wasn't just 0.0, but 0.00 I realized after looking back on it! Makes it much more precise and all the stranger too@@cattycats4
for a track fan like myself, this fascinates me, my own personal add would be a Henry Rono section,30 years old at Washington State, 1st Nikecontract, boozing and WR's!

Pretty sure Suzy Favor deserves a spot on the berg…
The pronunciation of Uwe Hohn was surprisingly good for a natvie english speaker. 😀
Should've talked about the 1968 Olympics being the major championship on synthetic track & electric timing. First sub 10, sub 20 and sub 44. Also LJ WR and world records for both relays. Maybe throw it in for part 2 if you have that in mind? Idk thought it was worth mentioning.
Excellent!Tony Hunt World Junior Athletics News NZL.
Great video but not sure how does it make sense?
For example just Tier 1
Puts Justin Gatlin and not Usain Bolt
Puts Kelvin Kiptum and not Kipchoge
Jesse Owens and not Carl Lewis or Bob Beamon
Duplantis and not Bubka
Seems later one is much more famous and distinguished in their respective events
If I included every single notable athlete in every discipline, the video would have been like 2 hours lol. Not to mention I included Lewis, Bolt, and Kipchoge in the video, just within different contexts.
Also including something like Bolt's accomplishments in an iceberg vid would be pretty pointless given how household of a name he is. The point of iceberg vids at times is that the information isn't something an outsider would know right off the bat (and then down the line, it's info that not even track fans know), so including Gatlin's bans is more intriguing than meandering through Bolt's accomplishments that everyone already knows.
without really knowing anything about historic track and field (I don't know why this came up in my recommendation, but I'm watching it!), abortion doping sounds like it could have been a rumour that started with soviet athletes being forced to get abortions to continue competing, and someone thought it would give an edge when it was just the soviet system forcing athletes to keep training and competing when they didn't want to anymore. which is just depressing.
Miles Takiguchi from Vassar College is the confirmed Sedona High School pooper. He admitted it recently on an interview on the Dana Track Club CZcams channel during an interview.
Tbf I don't know what the term iceberg means in this context, but I enjoyed the video.
Haven't watched it yet. Wonder how much will involve letsrun... it's everywhere.
For what it's worth, Edwin Moses' streak actually came to an end at a meeting in Madrid in 1987 in a loss to American Danny Harris.
We need some more world progressions videos 🤞🙏
I need the godspeed video on here ASAP
I like how I know these names from pop culture references. "I over come hurdles like Edwin Moses. Everything is planned but now one knows this."
A couple takeaways - devon allen reacted one thousandth to fast, not a hundredth.
Grant holloway has a longer win streak (albeit less races) in the 60mh than Edwin Moses
Yohan Blake has the only sub 19s clocking in the 200 when excluding reaction times
The 'closest race' in track field history can also be the semi finals at the 2022 world indoor championships when King and Nomoto tied to the thousandth in thr 60mh, even if they were in different semis
FloJo's world record could've had a side wind, blowing sideways as shown by the spectators' hair blowing backsards which could be why it shows as 0 because it isn't blowing forwards or backwards
I hate flotrack with a passion
Nearly every single top level sprinter is on some sort of cycle unknowingly
Reducing naturally occurring testosterone is bad for the sport
1988 Olympic 100m should've had 2 medalists
Did you miss the Mary Decker Fall entry off as its on the iceberg but I dont see a clip explaining?
This was a great video, I'm a sucker for running lore. I blame finding LetsRun back when I was new to running for knowing most of these. I still lurk the boards every now and then to see what people are talking about but don't spend too long because the toxicity is pretty yikes. My personal favorite meme was the story about some random road race where a 49 year old guy got outkicked by a Kenyan woman in the last 200 meters and pounded his fist into the ground saying he'd train his brains out and beat her next year lol.
ok banger video and all but i gotta know who’s doing the killer jazz songs…..
Voice clip reminds me of jamin lmao
i should be applying for jobs not watching this
Gotta add the 1904 St. Louis Marathon next time
Cmon, the windspeed is the least of the issues about Griffith-Joyner
39:02 the most controversial coach in history. *shows a photo of the man smoking* 😂😂

Maricica from the same country claiming Iolana gave birth to a son as a DISGUISE is insane
Thanks for the video. Important note - it is not six point twenty-nine seconds. It is always six point two-nine seconds. Any number after a decimal point cannot be a 10, or 20, or 30, or whatever, it is always a 1, or 2, or 3. Think about it.
americans on youtube all seem to do this and i have no idea why
Wait so what did gjert ingrebristen allegedly do to his daughter ?!
Surprised the 2 goats of distance, Bekele and Gebrselasse, are not near the top of the iceberg.
The fosbury flop is a technique originating from Africa, it should've been further down the iceberg with that twist.
32:20 is not strictly true as Maurice Greene ran under 9.80 and never had a doping ban. Yes I know there was suspicion, but that was not elucidated
yes
Where are the BYU splitties @
I ain’t even know the first one but I’m here to learn
Carl Lewis: i was just smoking weed man 😂😂❤
Thank God you had David Torrence’s death on here. I still to this day think it’s a conspiracy. I mean wouldn’t you blow a whistle on a group after you see a guy run 1:44 and 1:42 for 800s with 7 mins rest???
The 1904 Olympics marathon could also be in the dankest layer
Mention is made of Pre "turning pro". Officially, the sport at International level was strictly amateur until 6 years after his death.
Well this isnt your average iceberg video.
yo this better be good
2:01 how was it tragic? it would have been tragic if he took an innocent life because he was OWI
@ 13:50, that would be 1977
Whenever I double/triple-check vids this long, I *still* somehow manage to mishear my own dates when I say them wrong haha. Good catch.
@@RunnerBoi I am sometimes astounded at the things my mouth says.
explanations too short... dropped

"You already know how these iceberg videos work" HUH? how do they work?
@@KumoriNA-ov8elthe video shouldn't require I pause, google something, then return to the video. Just give a sentence or two in the video to explain it.
Claiming that "we'll never know" if Iolanda Bas was a man or not is the wildest way to conclude an entry that should have never gone on the list. Either her birth certificate, family, doctors, partners, and friends were all lying as part of a decades-long conspiracy, or... she was just a talented athlete.
We'll never know!!!
I will never agree with shared golds. Most sports have tie breakers, add tiebreakers to anything that doesn't have them. Why do they get to split a gold when other people are stuck getting 4th doing 99.9% as good as 3rd, and getting no medal. A lack of tiebreakers is not fair to anyone else who has to face tiebreakers. I think in an olympic setting, this could be done easily. Just make whatever their last result was weigh in when theres a tie.
bro imagine being busted for being born not natty 😭
Goodness, just say "sexual assault" not "SA"
