When I was in 6th grade I bought a book called "into the wild" and I tried to read it and I was really moved by the few pages I did read, however back then I wasn't much of a reader, I then didn't finish the book. When I was a senior in high school we watched this movie and I cried, it is such an amazing portrayal of a life that was amazing, controversal and Happiness is only real when shared.
GREAT GREAT movie, great acting from Emile, I have NEVER cried so hard as when I saw the end, as a mom of grown sons myself, I can only think of how Christopher suffered. My heart and prayers go out to his family and friends he made along his long journey.
great words dude! one of the best movies i've seen so far. and epic music....soundtrack of my life...thx to eddi vedder and sean penn and emile hirsch for his epic acting
the book however is much more greatfuling to say the least i mean i refused the idea of makin amovie out of it but suprisingly it turned out really good
I think the drag of the movie is Escape or call it freedom, desire of which is deep rested in human soul. After all we are basically wild creatures. Movie focuses on one of the four things Man will always crave : MOKSHA ( in Hindi )
one of the greatest movies! the interview is nice but they should speak about the actual content of the movie more. what i love in actor/director interviews in japanese movies.is that the actors speak of the characters as "I", not as "he" like the americans do. also, they speak of the actual content much more. for example here, they would have a face to face discussion about going off into the wild. well, that's what the public wants to hear about, no? who cares about the actors life
i need to do this. leave my parents bullshit..ready to leave into the wild get my own apartment to know the unknown and stay comfortable numb..like sticks of flint..like paper dolls bang together at the hips..
@wheelinthesky300 Yeah but if the main character of a film is 'prickly' then the audience won't like him as much. I think Emile did a fantastic job of portraying a lovable & relatable character which is what this film needed him to be. People get so anal about films sticking exactly to a book, it's an adaptation, not the book on screen.
I loved the movie. In fact, I think it might be the best film ever made. But I think there are a few things too fictionalized, and for people familiar with the story, it detracts a bit. Also, I think Emile, though he gave a fine performance, was miscast. He bears no physical resemblace to Chris, lacks his intellectual depth, and is not as prickly as Chris seemingly was. Emile is too soft and lovable and huggable. He's kind of like E.T. phone home.
You're a moron. He didn't kill himself or try to. If he went there to die he's not going to live off the land for 4 months then try to leave. If he went there to die I doubt he would've died of starvation when he had a gun.
darrylsh He thought he would be happier being on his own and away from his family. Which started his journey that ended in Alaska. He realized that he was wrong and tried to leave but couldn't or so he thought. If he had made it across the river he would probably be alive now. He didn't go there to die if he did he wouldn't have lived there for 4 months tried to leave. It wasn't his choice to starve to death if he wanted to die he would have used his gun months before.
Chuck Bronco You're stating the odvious but what happened was an educated man went and did something stupid and died. You're trying to see between the lines but there aren't any.
darrylsh I don't think what he did was stupid. It was his dream to go to Alaska and live off the land. I do think he should've been better prepared. But if you think living your dream is stupid then I feel sorry for you.
this film is one of the best i've seen. This only other film that moved me like this one is Georgia Rule. I suggest watching this film.
I'm such a huge fan of this movie that I will watch that one too.
The book, the movie. His life story is amazing and changed my life

its a movie that you need to read the book first
Kurt Cobain
River Phoenix would have been better!
Its so cool that they glorify a man who basically committed suicide. Devil Horns Yeah!!!

Chuck Bronco So what you're saying is that you don't understand either but I'm the moron...ok charlie
