- Music video for Eddie Vedder's "Hard Sun".
Lyrics:
When I walk beside her
I am a better man
When I look to leave her
I always stagger back again
Once I built an ivory tower
So I could worship from above
When I climb down to be set free
She took me in again
Theres a big
A big hard sun
Beating on the big people
In a big hard world
When she comes to greet me
She is mercy at my feet
And I, I see her inner charm
She just throws it back at me
Once I dug an early grave
To find a better land
She just smiled and laughed at me
And took her rules back again
Theres a big
A big hard sun
Beating on the big people
In a big hard world

this film marked my life a lot and only increased my desire to fulfill my dream, which is to explore the world, to visit new places, to connect more with nature, without having to kill animals of course, why this is living, instead to live a routine of working 8 hours a day, paying bills and cleaning the house.
same experience first starting with the book, which makes this incredible story all the more gripping
Same here!
Interesting story portrayed by actors playing parts in a story based loosely on a real story which did not end well for the main character. Not the first movie with the story line of man rejecting a material life. Wont be the last. Movies are not a guide for living a life. At best movies tell a story and maybe, just maybe, get you to think on the message a director is trying to tell.
Hey I have a question...I enjoy more in my home than going outside ...I m also not anti social but I feel living more when I m alone...is I m in chain or is it bad ???

@Jen, I am so sorry to hear that your son is dying. Please don't be too hard on yourself. It is not your fault he is dying. There must be a chance he can survive.
I am 37 and I felt like in hell because of an pain, weekness and some illness. I asked the God to help me and it did happen -- I got relieve the very next day - today. I also had so many emotions stacked up and this song helps me to let them go out. Have you found some way to release your emotions?

Eddie Vedder can really just steal your heart with his vocals
It was written and recorded by Gordon Peterson in 1989.
Veder was introduced to the song by Sean Penn, writer and director of the movie.
So,essentially,it's not Eddie Veder's song.

Eddie vedder is the man!
Man, Eddie sure can write a song and perform it with heart. ❤️
All these years later, this song still makes me feel free. I was a new Dad when this came out. My Son was born. I had to settle down as a young parent. Now that him and I are older, a road trip is in order.
This is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking films I have ever seen, while also being life affirming.
Vedder's music elevates it into something even greater! ☮️❤️🤘
…heartbreaking… that is for sure.
It is. I do not share his idealism at all but I respect him for having the heart and courage to live what he truly believed in without fear of judgement and ridiculed besides the fact that he touched so many hearts and souls of so many people on some level he met along the way in his journey with his infectious pure and youthful spirit and inspired many to follow their dream of absolute freedom albeit with a lesson, to venture out prepared and respect the natural balance of freedom and dependence.
what movie is this?
his story saved my life. I was planning on pulling the same exact stunt he did, including ending in alaska, before I found his book. But his revelation in his final journal entries( that life and adventure hold little meaning when you dont share them) made me realise that living life was far more about connecting with those around you than any excitement adventure can bring you alone.
Wise words
I think, as beautiful and ultimately tragic his story was, this is what to take away from it. Love the people that mean most to you because when the sun comes down on us all, thats all that really will have mattered.
Jacob that is beautiful. It would be cool if after that you could inspire just one person like Chris did for you, and Ron Franz, and the hippie couple. But even if you didn't its great that you allowed Chris' story to save you and be one part of who you are.
I learned this myself, traveling alone... if you keep busy and plan and scrape at the fabric of life it's still worthwhile, but it's better to share happier adventures with a loved one.
Love not shared is wasted.
this is a movie every guy should watch
In my will, I have it that I want this played at my funeral.

This film made me humble and made me understand that things don't control us. Real happiness is only found when shared!!!!
One of the Best Movies Ever
I commented just a bit ago, but I would like to add being out in nature is the best medicine. I have wicked depression. I really don't like to be around people. Remote camping in the wild is, to me, the cure. Life is simple. No TV. No running water. There is an amazing place here in Colorado I was introduced to many years ago. It's an area that is popular for deer and elk hunting in the fall. There is dispersed camping where there are no designated camping sites, no toilets, nothing. Total freedom. Be comfortable with no phone service. Be comfortable with doing your business out in the woods that follows the guidelines of the National park or State park. These simple ways bring me so, so much happiness
"When you forgive you love, and when you love God's light shines on you."
Yes.
💯
This film was my daughter's and mine all time favorite movie! It inspired both of us so much and made us realize how much family means! Well, my daughter finally came to stay with me after like 12 years. We were so happy, but it was short lived, because only after 4 short months my daughter Sarah passed away....we were devastated! But this movie and Eddie Vedder are still an inspiration in my life.🙏

@@idiotshittiot the fucked up part, is that there was a bridge to cross that creek further up, that he never saw. Talk about a tough break.
@@idiotshittiot what makes him brainless was that he walked into a situation completely unprepared, likely poisoned himself, and died being trapped by a river that would have been easily crossable had he bothered to prepare even a little bit more.
Whats worse is that one of his final reflections was that he had wasted his time and that bonds to friends and family meant more than anything he could ever gain alone. The very bonds he broke to accomplish his short sighted dream had been his final regret.
Dont pretend he was enlightened, he was just as lost as the rest of us right up to the bitter end.

“happiness only real when shared”
As someone who owns land (8acres)
I can say this'
None of It matters If you can't share It with someone else.....
If It only exists to you It's almost like It doesn't exist at all.
A lot of people don't realize that MOST of the story is the main character having interactions with PEOPLE who HELPED him along the way.
He even realizes that happiness is not being alone but sharing love with others.
The director went out of his way to say: Fucking off to the woods is not fulfilling.
Still people are romanticizing it. Yes everyday life sucks, but share it with people and it will improve.
This song and this movie are perfect together.
They are inseparable. ❤💔❤

so....yeah, crying as I listen to this in 10/2020 just as tears flowed and flowed at the end of this movie when I saw it, in the theater....which I saw well after reading the book. This was the music of my coming of age, and this movie represented a lot of us resless spirits that lived in mountain communities making just enough money during any "on season" so that you could cram in to a van with the person you loved at the time and go and see what the roads, waves, mountains, rivers, crags and hills had to offer this time around. It wasn't just the road, or the mountains or the politics that united us, it was the music, music was our church our bible and our God.
Brings me back. Ty brotherrs
Powerful film. Saw it on its release date in a theater in Kalispell, Montana. Reminded me of my own youth 50 years ago. Great soundtrack also.
Perhaps most important was that Christopher McCandless’ story was from his journal. Sean Penn was also very savvy in his making the film.

You know? I appreciate the pace of youtube comments. It's never for clout. It's just people loving something and sharing that love. I don't think there's anything on the internet like it. You can leave something here for years and it's never going to be a big deal, it's marginalia.

She just throws it back again
Once I dug an early grave

When I saw what I had done
Bound down and flew away the hours
Of her garden and her sun
So I tried to warn her
I'll turn to see her weep
Forty days and forty nights
And it's still coming down on me
