I love your channel. It's down to earth and realistic. 😺💜 If I understand this video correctly- people need to be mindful that keeping things simple, does not mean" dumbing it down" - effort is required. I agree.

Thank you for your kind words.
Yes, we don't need to over complicate things... still we don't need to over simplify them. At the end of the day managing ADHD requires effort... in a sense it is about managing discomfort.
      Appreciate you tuning in,

I think so much advice out there is just treating the symptoms. Which is why I started differentiating between ‘organisation’ and ‘structure’.
Because I noticed that when I’m effective I have a simple but effective structure to approach my work with. But my exterior world actually becomes less organised. Because I’m actually doing stuff, I’m more effective, quicker, more confident, more flexible etc. It can get messy but who cares when it’s working.
But most of the time I struggle and it feels like every new project/work/task etc, is a blank canvas. And I started to realise that I overcompensate by getting unnecessarily organised as if I’m fooling myself into thinking I know what I’m doing and/or a form of procrastination.

I agree with you. So much advise is on symptoms. That said, i've developed and will soon be releasing a new ADHD intervention called Cognitive Ergonimics From the Inside Out (TM). It isn't about tips, tricks, or strategies do deal with ADHD symptoms but rather a new field of engineering to problem solve... to fit the job or task to the ADHD brain not fit the brain to the task.
Please don't mistake this a wanting to selll something. Soon i hope to educate people on a new approach to identify the root of the problem and learn to accomodate the root.
      thanks for posting.

I think this is so important. At least for me it is. Because intuitively I get fed up with the productivity/planning/routine/life hacks content that never addresses the problem! When you say ‘you need to problem solve’ that rings so true. And ambiguity is the sign that problems are about to arise for me. Because it means I don’t know what to do.
When I was about 7 I thought my issue was that I wasn’t Intelligent. And whilst it’s sad to say this, and fundamentally i don’t believe it’s correct, but I was closer to the truth when I was 7, than when I was trying to, to do list my way out of my problems.
But every now and then I come up with a way of removing a common problem from my life. And it feels like a break through. It’s problem solving. It just feels exhausting having to constantly break everything task down to it’s core components I’m order to get on. Procrastination os inevitable. You could call it rest. But when I come up with ways to remove some of this work, I actually make progress.
Sometimes I feel like having an ambiguous task means putting energy into zooming out from the task before being able to start. Almost like we think from the inside out before we can get started. Whereas most people don’t have to go through that process before getting started so we’re always a step behind. Does that make sense? If you have any insight on this in relation to adhd I would love hear it in a future video! Thanks

Love the fact you "get" that it is about problem solving. Note i have a new ADHD intervention being launched soon call Cognitive Ergonomics From the Iniside Out (TM) that takes an engineering approach to solving ADHD problems. I'm in my third pilot of the program and very pleased with the results.
      Thanks for tuning in.

@@AttentionTalkVideo wow, that makes a lot of sense. Because from my experience, the symptoms of ADHD are made drastically worse when I’m stuck and don’t know how to get a solution. Everything becomes a guess. And it feels like you have an endless amount of work on your plate because a solution-less problem has no end. Which removes all motivation because you can’t even perceive a finish line. There’s only ambiguity which is overwhelming. Distractions, daydreaming and procrastination become an escape from confusion. Impulsive & stimulating behaviours feel necessary to level you out when you’re stuck. etc, etc, etc. 🤯

@@AttentionTalkVideo And the name of your ADHD intervention is very fitting given my first comment (from the inside out)! I’ll definitely keep an eye out for it in your new videos. Is it a course/training/method? Very interested to learn about this and your findings etc!

    • @AttentionTalkVideo

@@Ctrl_Zei It used Dr. Barkley EF model (like darwins theory of evolution or newtons laws of motion) plus AttentionScope (R) which is a lens (like a telescope or MRI) to see what our senses can't see (the intangibility of cognition). With those two tools one can apply a six sigma approach to problem solving. Radiologist have to go through specailized training to become proficient at reading CAT scans, MRIs, X-Rays etc. AttentionScope (R) requires specialized training to use it... the Cogntivie Ergonomics From the Inside Out is an observational training program to learn how to use the modal and AttentonScope (R) to observe fact not feelings (root cause not symptoms). Thanks for asking. I'm really excited about it and the possibilities.

You're amazing, I wish you were in Tasmania Australia where adult adhd Is only just being accepted, I didn't get diagnosed until I was 49 and it was because I was becoming so overwhelmed and stressed and frozen I was literally not thinking, I would have the tv on while playing a match 3 game on the tablet and watching CZcams on my phone, my inability to think felt painful and I felt completely helpless, lost, I was also diagnosed a vague neurodivergent and with cptsd, you are a breath of fresh air, I just wish your videos were a bit longer. No one I work with can see the internal struggle. It's breaking me 😦😟🙂💖.

C-PTSD also has similar symptoms to ADHD. Difference is that if your trauma is healed, you'll no longer experience symptoms/ in the same degree (if you don't actually have ADHD).

I would also like to add something to that. Untreated ADHD can, in my case, cause the development of CPTSD. I also have a childhood friend who served in Afghanistan and hasn't been the same. He was undiagnosed ADHD and, as is commonly experienced, was later hit with PTSD.

Very good. I have seemed to move in my journey through the layers of an onion. Started out with severe impatience, in thinking impairments, then uncovered something (trauma for me) and altered treatment if necessary (and it was necessary) and moved on. I wouldn't trade that journey. I've become more of everything I needed to hold a job, stay with projects, and emotionally more viable and approachable as well as more balanced.

Jeff, I value your channel for exactly the reason you mentioned. My rates of success improved once I incorporated mindfulness of my impairments into the planning stage. Even when planning I check in periodically and ask; "Is this a plan I can write down and expect anyone to be able to follow, or is this a fantasy schedule/list that I'm quickly jotting down because I really don't want to make a plan and think about this right now?

A criticism of your videos is THEY are in fact OVERSIMPLIFIED. Too short and only state a symptom of ADHD but hardly any elaboration on ways to fix it.

Most won't watch a you tube video for more than four minutes.... I'm really struggling to go to you tube shorts and instagram becauase i can't really communicate much in less than a minute. My deeper content is on my sister station Attention Talk Radio... those podcasts are more like 30 minutes. Thanks for the feedback.
