    Love this video. The VI just doesn't get the same love as the previous land yachts. I had an '82 with a very rare roof option where the oval opera windows were covered over, and the rear quarter windows were partially covered to give them a completely thin vertical shape. It was 9 years old with 75,000 miles when I bought it, but it had been lovingly babied by its original owner. I would go on to have it for 9 years myself, adding an additional 150,000 miles. Living in southeastern Massachusetts, I drove that car all over New England, as well as a trip to Toronto, New York City, and even put it on the ferry to Martha's Vinyard. Great car. Great memories. 😌

      thank you and yes the mark VI is looked over far to much so any love it can get is the best :) working on a few more of these episodes with a mark v and a sedan mark vi

    I passed by a beautiful Mark VI yesterday, silver with original wheels and whitewalls, driven by an older gentleman, the only non-stock thing I noticed was dual exhaust with chrome tips. Gorgeous car.

    I know that Lincoln inside and out. We had the 1981 Town Car and my friend got the 1982 Black on Black four door Continental with that great digital dash and all the buttons. You could manually set your destination and time. Then as you stopped for fuel or food it would update your arrival time based on your stop. Same 5.0 V8 with overdrive that was a little underpowered but boy did it ride smooth and quiet. I was so jealous and wished we had not gotten the Town Car Signature Series.. No cool dash in our car but both had the moon roof and the buttons on the door to unlock one door or all doors and trunk. Still to this day I would love to have one as my daily driver.

    To me it was nice to see one of these cars with the cloth interior. The cloth/velour interiors seem to be frowned upon when really they are so much more durable, not hot or cold in differing climates and look very luxurious. In alot of other cultures, the cloth/velour was deemed NICER than the leather alternative. The Mark series did some of the nicest cloth/velour interiors in my honest opinion. Something to be proud of to own.

      @@MarksofDistinction The cloth interiors on the 1980 and 1981 models had a better design pattern than the later 1982-1983 models in my opinion. Either way, thanks for bringing these beautiful cars to your channel and showing others how wonderful they are to drive and own. When i buy one, i'm definitely getting one with cloth interior and analog gauges. I also prefer the two tone exterior paint option on the Mark VI's.

    Things to help power. New double row timing set. The OE is a nylon over aluminum cam gear and stretchs and jumps. Delete EGR, egr cooler, air pump and cats. Add dual exhaust and take the slack out if the accelerator pedal. Raise shift points if it shifts to early by adjusting sceew on linkage. Run non ethanol. It will accelerate way better. Plus it will get better economy. I get 20 in suburban driving overdrive locked out and 25 on highway overdrive on.

    An acquired taste, but my personal favorite. Handled better than the oversized '70s Lincs and rode better than any Cadillac. '82+'83 are the best years if in the higher trim levels.

    When those would get mileage like that it was almost always the TPS on the left side of the throttle body. It's usually best to ALSO replace the TBI baseplate gasket.. it's really easy but that car is SD (speed density) injection based. The fuel is based on the vacuum. So any vacuum leak would cause MPG loss..the IAC on some or air throttle bypass or load compensator would smooth it out so it wouldn't be noticed at idle.

    • @MarksofDistinction
      @MarksofDistinction  Před 3 lety +1

      Both of these cars had the high rear end meaning you would not get good fuel economy on my other Mark Vi it has the 3.08 rear end and they get 25-28 mpg easy. But both of these two has the 3.42 traction lock rear end and it kills fuel economy plus like it said the the video we did have hard wind on the trip

    • @MarksofDistinction
      @MarksofDistinction  Před 2 lety +1

      @Werner Lynch On my dad‘s 1982 Lincoln Mark vi since new one even today it will get 29 miles per gallon on the highway. When you’re going 70 mph

    • @MarksofDistinction
      @MarksofDistinction  Před 2 lety +1

      @Werner Lynch and I’m not on dope I think you just have a leadfoot you can get great fuel economy on these cars if everything is tune properly most people on these cars have lower air pressure in their tire so it’s soaks up more bumps but that affects fuel economy you have to make sure everything‘s working right. I just got rid of an 84 town car that would get 27 miles per gallon on the highway when you’re going 70 miles an hour. And I didn’t get mixed up with the other cars I’m talking about actual mileage on the big full-size lincolns the town cars and the marks not the mark seven or the Lincoln continentals thanks for watching the video I appreciate it :)

    Great video! The Mark VI has always been my favorite in the Mark series. I’ve considered buying one - but the very high dashboard makes me hesitate.
    To Mark VI owners - does the dashboard height obstruct your view of the road (to the point where it is bothersome)? Or is it not any issue?

    • @MarksofDistinction
      @MarksofDistinction  Před 2 lety +2

      It may look high but it does not obstruct your view whatsoever I don’t want mine you can see the dash and then you can see the hood beyond it there’s no distraction at all I would go out and test drive one or go on Eenie town car from 1980 to 1989 it’s basically the same set up it is the same set up just on the town car
