Ford Escape - LIFTGATE LATCH / ACTUATOR MOTOR REPLACEMENT (2008 - 2012)

  • Can't open your lift gate? Tailgate button doesn't work or no power to the liftgate? Rear hatch is not opening on your Ford Escape SUV ( 2008 | 2009 | 2010 | 2011 | 2012 | XL | XLT | LIMITED ).
Rear hatch being stuck is a very common problem on Ford Escapes. Reason for this is that water drains down into the liftgate mechanism and usually the actuator goes bad or wires and connectors get corroded and are causing problems. Sometimes it even affects the power button lift gate switch. Fix is to replace the actuator, fix the wires, clean the connections and / or replace the liftgate switch.
Watch the video on how to access the actuator motor and how to replace it.

Need to replace mine in an 09 Escape, guess these are notorious for eventually failing. Looks pretty easy thanks.

Hi, sorry don't have the video on that but if I remember right you can also remove it once the inner panel is off. Often mud and water gets in there and damages the wires / connections. You can clean it by using electrical contact cleaner and also maybe test the switch using multimeter to make sure it is good

Is there any way to keep the moisture from going down there? I’ve had it replaced before but now I’m going to attempt to do it myself on a 2010

Where’s the lever? You never showed it.

It is just under the actuator. If you squeeze your hand in you should feel it. Than just pull it up to open the liftgate

My 2010 escape would not lock when closed! Good fuse,so I narrowed it down to that actuation motor
