Hive worlds sound like a giant ant hives where everyone does what they can to live, but a lot of them are shitty. If anything, it sounds like people just packed in these places and they won't ever get ahead in life. Nice video.

The handbook does a fairly good job describing hive cities, but it still lacks informations regarding daily life and more specific aspects of hive worlds lore. Question: if no one has ever seen natural ground or the sun, how the hell do give worlds adapt to life in the guard? I mean, how do you train someone to make sand bags and to prepare for day and night fighting of they don’t know what dirt is or what day-night cycles are? Or hell, how to use foliage as camouflage with out freaking out at seeing a tree for the first time.

I realize it would depend heavily on where the regiment is located and who they're fighting, but lets take pre fall Cadia as an example. There has to be cases out there of Guardsmen, through sheer grit, experience and luck managing to make it to retirement (If such a thing as "retirement" even exists in a place like Cadia).
Yes veteran guardsman do exist but they are not as common as in our world. The average guardsman would see a couple military campaigns on one planet and then get assigned to stay there to guard the world but the chances of a guardsman to survive two planets campaigns is pretty slim. czcams.com/video/pfaWv0MWxRA/video.html
Cause the majority of chaos forces are inside the eye of terror and the chaos gods can mold time in it to how they see fit. Theres tales of rouge astartes bands going into the eye, spending several years rebuilding their forces and coming out days later or several thousand years later in material time. An entire world can exist in the eye whos sole purpose is to produce legions of cultists for any faction and it can be in a pocket of the warp where thousands of years can go by on the planet and only a year or two passes outside of the eye. And the opposite as well were titans and other strong forces that only come out durring things like black crusades have their time slowed down so that they dont get damaged in fights between chaos factions before the next crusade.

Wish they would do an open world fallout skyrim type of game for 40k being able to choose a faction and a occupation cause these turn based video games and strategy games are old news ;(
the world is too big for that and the battles would have to be much smaller because of performance, players would whine and cry about it and that is not worth the effort.

MMOs and RPG in general are difficukt genre to make, it is harder to get microtransactions in (which is something every publisher wants these days) and not so many people play them compared to multiplayer BR or FPS games.

Necromumda books are in my opinion the BEST in the 40k universe hands down and a required read for truly understanding the reality of the hive.
It's also an Imperial Fists recruiting world.
