- Our Toyota Land Cruiser was suffering with Chassis rot. It is 9 years old, but does a lot of miles in the sand dunes at the inland sea area of Qatar. Sand loaded with salt has been sitting inside the chassis members, rusting it away from the inside out.
You are not allowed to carry out repairs to these types of components in Qatar, so a complete replacement was carried out.
We took the opportunity to remove and overhaul our winch, which to date has been used in over 400 recoveries. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Under body coating is a must, a lot in shops Qatar do that including Ziebart.
Holly shit that new chassis was probably big$$$$$$
Nice sir, more people you can help. Take care always. ❤
Cut cut cut 😂😂. Too good 👌👌
Change that rear main if you can. Unfortunately you probably get into some hypersaline conditions in the salt flats.
Nice work. I am loving watching your videos here in Australia. Can I ask why you run almost slick tyres in the sand? How do you get traction without much open tread?
Regards from Qatar. Thank you for your comments. These tyres are specifically designed for sand. We run them at around 14psi in the sand. The comparatively smooth tread slows down the removal of sand from under the tyre, that is to say, they don't dig a hole as fast as agressive treads. They seem to drive off the sidewalls at the bottom where they bulge a little due to the reduced pressure. That said they are completely useless on mud and are a liablity on the road. They were illegal on the roads here until around 5 years ago.
@@QatarSandMan thank you for your explanation and so promptly. Are the majority of cars that are bogged in the sand that you pull out generally on full pressure tyres?
@@jkgmh6669 Certainly that's a big factor but that tends to happen not too far from the tarmac. As we get further into the dunes other reasons take precedence . In the end, we all get stuck at some point.
I am always scared to go to these types of workshops. At the same time I am always surprised by their quality work. How was the end result so far? For my frame I put a garden hose in all the openings on the chassis and let the water run to flush out the sand and salt until it comes out clear. Then I spray WD-40 into all holes after the water dries. I have made experiments with bare steel spraying it with engine oil, ATF, gear oil and then spraying salt water daily to see how much rust forms. WD-40 worked the best. Although on foreign forums I see that lanolin based sprays work the best but here it's so expensive.
They actually did an excellent job
Where is the garage that worked for your new chasis? Thank you!
Hard Garage, Street 13 Industrial area. Tel 66982024
good time to upgrade to the later lc200s.. not sure how those hold up though.. chinese parts probably
How much it costs the chasis?
Is it easy to order?
How long it takes for delivery?
The chassis was QR 17,510 from Toyota in Qatar. It was immediately available, off the shelf. We must go through a lot of them here. You have to go to the traffic department and have the chassis stamped with the original VIN and Chassis numbers before fitting.
@@QatarSandMan thanks for the info
