  • What happened in the Indian towns of Singur and Sanand was a lesson on what to do and what not to do to ensure economic development and success in a town or nation.
I hope that this video and the lesson it continues opens our mind on what is the best route for South Africa to take.

My company employs more than 60 people. I've contracted a tax consultancy firm for sars compliance. On a monthly I'd make payments to the firm to pay over vat, uif, etc.
2years later I get sars notices for non compliance. I've sent them all the payments made to that company but sars want to hear nothing of yet. I've been ordered to pay over R2mil in 6months or face imprisonment & the closure of my company. I was told to get my lawyers to fight to recover the monies paid over to that firm, but in the meantime start paying or face the above.
So the government does not really care about unemployment. That R350 grant is their carrot

seems like that tax consultancy firm took you for a ride.. they must provide proof of all the payments they made to sars.. if they cannot, you charge them.. sars just wants their money, they dont want your business to close or you to go to jail..if that happens , they get nothing, they rather get the money.. so its not sars fault here, its this company you were paying.. i would suggest going to a reputable accountant and let them ask sars for a grace period to review and make submissions.. if you work with sars, they will not do anything bad to you..

thats the problem, you want sars to job that is not theirs, it is for you to demand that tax consultancy firm to provide proof of your compliance and if they fail open a case of fraud against the company, and yes you should start paying because when you win your case you can reimburse your accounts, blaming the government makes no sense but just feeds your biases and

Capitalism works under the premise of meritocracy. Our politicians don’t like that because it would expose their shortcomings. If we’re all going to work hard to get what we need, they will need to be qualified to be in the positions they hold. And we know that the majority of them shouldn’t even be there.

You cannot refer to mistakes made in the past, if you want to live in the future. Yes we can learn from our mistakes, but we still need to live for the future, or it's all for nothing. You are missing the point, we don't need socialism as it is defined in the books, but it's a fact that South African's economy needs both government intervention and the private sector, for example we can not allow only private sector to run public transport we need both private sector and government to provide transport for South African's workers.

If the government owns the land on behalf of the citizens, we can lease any piece of land to any investor who wants to invest in this country, Malema even makes the example that if you want to invest here the government must lease you land for free and yours as the investor to provide jobs and skills to the surrounding communities.

Most educators, motivational speakers miss the first of 4 steps of competence, which is unconscious incompetence ... defined as "not knowing you are, in the specific area requiring competence, stupid=don't know... When you realize that in order for you to succeed, life long learning is beneficial and required for success competence and personal growth ...
No benefit visualized, no desire to learn ... don't miss the first step.

I'm not too sure where this seemingly scaremongering about Communism comes from, especially in SA, we don't an issue with this debate at all. But if its Katlego's pet Communism vs Capitalism debate, let it be. The ANC as a govt is pro-Capitalism, some leaders may say otherwise but as a governing party it has adopted neoliberal economic policies long ago, even though they carry the SACP which is not even distancing herself from such policies because ANC govt is an employer to Blade Nzimandes of this world.
It was interesting to hear one interviewee just near the end of the clip, Mr Adi Godrej saying something like 'other states have less factionalism... coalition leads...Gujurat state is a ONE party state, things tend to move faster' does that mean SA needs to be led by a one Party state to achieve it's economic goals, what becomes of multiparty democracy then. Does that mean the Chinese model works better because of being a ONE party state or is Coalition government going to help us at or as Adie Godrej put it that other government systems lead to factionalism and delays? I want to believe that these are pertinent questions that must be dealt with since they are relevant to our present political landscape.
The issue of trading rural land for development is another debate that is not informed by Communism vs Capitalism broad brush. It's communities themselves who are skeptical of the 'capital' in their land hence we have the Xholobeni Issue in the Eastern Cape where Amadiba Crisis Committee objected to mining in that space. Another rural community that is doing the same is Somkhele in the Northern KZN where Tendele Mining company extract coals, messing up with drinking water fro Mfolozi River. One prominent environmental activist, Fikile Ntshangase lost her life. In all these incidents not one political party has been involved but poor communities standing up for what they believe is not in their interests. In both case studies, Gwede Mantashe sided with investors. This notion that the ANC is pushing a Communist agenda is false. I'm not even a member of the ANC but we need to be factual, not raise irrelevant far off cases when relevant cases are here in SA.
I want to believe that these

      @lloydndhlovu7985 Před 3 měsíci +1

True, the ANC is not pushing the communist agenda but they do make people depend on them. People will not care about making their lives better if the government will take care of them. And that screams communism.
But to be fair, they are not openly promoting it. They know what will happen if they go full blown communism and respect that🤣.
They do have some socialistic policies for sure (which I don't mind. Some people can't help themselves) but too much government is not good for anyone.

“If you are paid well” that’s the issue in many capitalist society people are rarely paid well. Capitalism is good but the way it is implemented today also has major issues which means the issue goes way deeper than these systems.

What if land owners would lease the land for some 20 or more years to industrial developers? Any factory after 10 years needs recapitalisation with new tech which is done via sale and not by reinvestment. So the problem is not with the industrial development per se but with the way the resources are redistributed., by the very politicians.

I seem to be missing something! The majority of the farms are owned/run by Afrikaners but the Dutch/Holland did not colonise SA. The British did! So why 'ki LL the boer'? The anti-Rhodes demonstrations a few years ago quickly died when there was a threat to all the Rhodes scholarships ending! So the money was more important than the 'anti colonialism ' ideology which points to the need/desire for money. Surely this proves a leaning towards capitalism - no?

The reason why the profit motive is harmful is because of the fundamental contradiction between the interests of capitalists and workers, as capitalists want to pay their workers as little as possible and work them as much as possible to increase profits, whereas workers want to be paid fairly and have their increased ...

In a capitalist company you're able to rise and get promoted. You're able to get skills. You're able to even start your own company. The profit motive is why you see these phones we still use to this day. It is the reason we see the planes . It's the reason the internet reached us in our countries. It's the reason why the standard of life is higher everywhere you find capitalism.
The profit motive does not only benefit the owners of the company.
It benefits the supervisors managers accountants etc so those people started at the bottom as laborers and assistants . This is the system where someone who was born poor is able to rise from nothing to become a millionaire just from having the right job or learning the right skills or selling the right products.
Being profitable allows for more factories to open without profit how do you buy more machinery. We can't have politicians who've never run sustainable companies telling us how to run an economy. Look at Cyril. He is rich but he has no clue how to make a company is made rich... Why? Because he didn't get rich from his own sweat. He didn't invent hence he is as useless as all of them
Capitalists will pay more if you're more skilled and more valuable. We can't have people who are unskilled earning millions of rands. In a capitalist system you earn what you eat.
      That's a merit system.

@@CitizenConcernedI think there's a lot to be admired with a capitalist system. In countries like the US, it promoted competition which lead to innovation and further employment for its people. However the same system gave rise to monopolies which kill innovation by swallowing smaller companies reversing some of the earlier gains from the same system. The UK and US at present are dealing with the onset impacts of income inequality, high crime rates, big disparities between the top 1 percent and the working class, with an eroding middle class. All in this to say, a purely capitalist society without government intervention does not seem to be the answer. These countries have shown us what happens when you do that. Ours is to really study all these systems and come up with something that will not only bring prosperity for a certain period but one which will sustain that prosperity.
