The modern American hamburger was possibly invented by Charles Nagreen (Hamburger Charlie) in 1885 at a Outagamie County Fair. Prior to this, Hamburg Steaks were eaten either on their own or as an open-faced sandwich (Smorrebrod).

Russ Fleming last time I checked, they’re on record in the library of the US CONGRESS. Correct me if I’m wrong, but last I checked, the US Congress is in charge of what goes on in the US. Not the rest of the world. They keep records of what goes on in our country. Which is why we should be giving them credit for being the first to do it IN OUR COUNTRY. If the Germans were doing way before them, great! Have a medal! As a culinarian, I’m well aware of where hamburger originated. This video isn’t focusing on that. It’s focusing the AMERICAN HAMBURGER. Not the German one. At what point did me or anyone else say that anything that happened outside the US was irrelevant. How about you take a look in the mirror before calling someone a deliriously simple-minded twat. The only one making an ass of themselves in this conversation is you with you’re acting.

German immigrants in America adopted this and called them Hamburgers!

First, they're not undercooked. The Lassens cook the meat only two ways: rare and medium rare. It ain't Burger King, pal. Second, the only potatoes sides they got are potato salad and potato chips. You get either one or both. And third and lastly, condiments ruins the quality of their burgers, let alone upstages it. If you don't like their way, then don't go there and embarrass yourself. It's THEIR way or the highway. Got it?
