Thank you very much! I've been wanting to do this for a while now and I was pretty happy with the way it turned out.
Thank you Fred! It was fun figuring out how to pull this off. I was pretty happy how it turned out. Cheers brother!
Like I said at the beginning of the video, this is a recreation of the "very first" hamburger sandwich made by Louis' Lunch in the year 1900, They are making their burger the same way they have for over 100 years to this day. Nothing has changed... I have a hamburger series on my channel where I recreate famous burgers and this is a famous burger. I'm not going to change a recipe when I'm striving to recreate as exact as possible. Click the link in the description box for Louis' Lunch vid.
I think you nailed it brother. Thanks for giving Luis' some love. It is an American Icon and I am happy to see you replicating their pride and joy.
Thank you! The different cuts of meat really make this work!
Looks great! I remember watching that show about those old upright broilers used. They don't build them like they used to!
as folks who visit the Grill Em All truck whenever it parks in our hood, Love your shirt.
Also, we love how close you stuck to the original cooking method. Thanks for teaching it the right way and not taking a cop out and just griddling the burgers. this looks awesome.
Looks good simple and easy!! Nicely done Greg.
Cool idea on the cooking technique! I want to try this burger but couldn't think of a way to cook it. You nailed it!
Simple and delicious. Liked that cooking technique brother!
Thanks for your input!
I noticed how Malcom Marecki disabled his reply button so no one could challenge his comment. So Malcolm, this ones for you. Louis' Lunch Counter is documented in the Library of Congress as being the very first restaurant to serve a hamburger in USA. They never claimed to be the inventor of the hamburger in the world. Your story about northern France is correct. Louis' is the American Icon and innovator.
What a neat cooking technique. That was cool!
and 10 years later we're all glad you did!!!
Thank you Dan! It was pretty fun and easy to boot!
Me too! I also love crisp bacon on on folded toast with just a little butter.
Excellent cooking method - even better history lesson. I'm from New England and wasn't aware that the "burger sandwich" was invented in New Haven! Outstanding as usual...
Looking forward to seeing it!
Thank you Rob!
Thank you! It's been fun!
Thanks for the video! That makeshift broiler is brilliant!
these are great, huge fan!!
That was ingenious using those camp baskets!
Looks Great !
Looks great!
Looks amazing
Very ingenious way of simulating there old grills. This was beyond cool.
Thank you! It was a really fun cook!
Thank you Gary!
Thank you. The cuts I chose just seemed to make since to me. Cheers!
Kick ass Greg! Your ingenuity for cooking this burger was impressive! It's been a while since I was there, but from what I remember (you never really forget) your meat mix is probably pretty close. Another epic cook...great freakin job man, really awesome as always.
That upright grill is ingenious, good job, glad I found this channel
Thanks! I'm glad you found my channel too!
Hi, please tell me whats de cream you put an that breed? Cheese? what % of every meat you have used?
It was a pretty interesting cook for me. Thanks for checking it out!
Such a cool concept by showing how to make your own Louis' Lunch burger at home.
Thank you Jeff!
Yeah, I'd love to have one of those old cookers.
Made it. Loved it.
Thank you Chris. It was pretty fun!
Man - you're an f'ing genius. This is so awesome!
Thank you for checking it out!
Thank you!
My mom used to make hamburgers that way with the white bread. Nice job on the setup!
The original burger joint. Louis Lunch Counter is the real "First." Love this vid.
you are such a scientist sir, I love your vids!!!
Whaaa? Forgive you for another homemade burger? Why ask dude, great series!
What an excellent take on the unique technique and the special equipment used of old!
Saw this Louis' style on the TV and am really impressed at how you adapted modern EQ to simulate the older EQ process!
Also a great grind, the blend of meats has to be tasty!
I think this is the only burger you bit that didn't run juices onto the plate, dripping off your pie hole there, but I could be wrong...
Yumms up again! :)
I can relate to that burger! I have always ate mine with just the bun, burger, slice of onion, and I do put a little mustard on mine, but no lettuce or tomato. I think it's about time for me to do a burger video. I was just thinking that out of my videos, I don't have one single burger video, but it's coming lol! Thanks for sharing this Greg!
very nice. I like the way you recreated the vertical broiler, while rocking a Glock cap... awesome
your rebuild of the original Louis Lunch grill oven is really funny and cool. When i want make my version of Louis hamburger sandwich, i will try to get the same effect with my contact grill
Thank you very much!
Thank you Greg this was great to hear a little hisory as well as a burger like my Mom would have made:)
I think that sandwich looks fantastic... I love the simplicity of it... more is not always better :)
I love the burger series!
You now have me going to get a meat grinder attachment to my Kitchen Aid! That looks awesome. Simple is so good!
Thank you! Less is more for sure!!
My mom made em like this too! Comfort food for sure!
Nice, really nice!
Tom! I was thinking of you when I was throwing this contraption together! I'd love to see a video of a steamed burger!
Thanks for the video. I would love to have a Louis Lunch burger, or something close to it!
great vid man
Necessity really IS the mother of invention! I've never been to Connecticut, but if I ever do find myself there, I WILL check that place out.
But wow, charcoal on the sides! Looks great, Greg!
Goddddddddd I love your videos...Glad I found you tonight lol
You did a favor to the Burger World by showing this cool recipe :) Thanks!
Very clever my friend!
Another interesting look into burger history. I'd never heard of Louis'. The grilling method makes sense, in that excess grease drains quick, and it's getting attacked by heat from every direction at once. And simplicity reigns. When you're using meat that fine, make it the focal point. Don't drown it with condiments. I like it!
Thank you Jenny!
I saw this place with the burners on Triple D.Antique ovens. Cool good video! Thumbs up lked and shared on FB
really yummy.
The result looks great !! I’m going to try them using the same meat mix and keep it medium-rare. The difficult part would be find Cheez Whiz in south Mexico 😃
Yeah! I want one of those ovens brother!
They work!
Yummo that looks juicy and delicious Greg. I think my drool saturated my iPad LOL Great stuff!
This is so good looking, something different... something I haven't tried.
Perhaps One day will get to visit and try Louis Lunch!
Beautifully done brotha, that looks GREAT! Get yourself a utensil drawer liner, the rubber kind, and cut a sheet of it to put under your cutting board so it doesn't slide around. Fantastic job though, really appreciate the effort and video!!!
There's a tiny burger shack in Wisconsin called Wedl's. George did a segment on them. Would love to see you make them. Oh and green chile burgers!
Looks good. Like others have already said, "sometimes less is more." Cheers.
Greg, I think I'm going to send you the bill for a monitor, this is the 3rd one I've eaten since subscribing...lol, Thank you, great job as usual.
Nice!
Way better! I'll be checking out your vid!
Pretty good idea on recreating that burger.
Oh yeah!
It was pretty easy. The second the patties were in place, I could smell them cooking!
I was wondering how you were going to cook your burgers vertically, very creative!!
There is a video "best thing I've ever eaten" on YT that explains this burger really well. Thanks for check'n out the vid!
Im from New Haven and these burgers are delish yes the rule is not ketchup
No one who lives in New Haven will ever go to Louis Lunch twice. A tourist trap! You put more care into your burger than Louis has in the last 50 years
I need to order more. What size do you need?
I'd just buy one of those cooking racks that I used and cook them one side at a time until they reach the doneness you like. I used (like Louis') fresh ground steak, so you can leave the meat as pink as you like.
That is a damn good looking burger 😋
Whew '' not cheese wiz '' ....had me laughing out loud on that one . sweet and simple Greg , sometimes less is more .....!!!
Now you have to go there!
I found myself at Louis Lunch about 40 years ago. I asked for ketchup and the guy behind the counter said, in a rather arrogant tone.."We don't allow ketchup in the lunch room". I didn't expect that and felt like saying.."Well then..f-ck you..ahole". Of course, I didn't because I was so freaking hungry. The bottom line was, the burger was absolutely delicious.
I was told a fellow started a fight over ketchup once!
Douche bag. Get a life
Everyone’s so pissed about ketchup here lol
I’ll bring my own ketchup and use it in front of them
Lol I know thank goodness! That meat is so juicy it looks dangerously good. Cravings alert! haha
I was reading comments on some of the Louis' Lunch videos and people were going off on how they don't allow ketchup but put cheese wiz on it. Sometimes you just go with the flow... Never mess with a families tradition!
Yeah man! Get that grinder!!!
It was juicy, but yes... Didn't come flying out of the old pie hole! The blend was really tasty!
Me too!!!
Man, you are the man, man
Mandamn!
And have you ever tried Pat Lafrieda's? Would like to know your opinion on their burger blends.
I'm really glad I subbed, my father taught me the acronym K.I.S.S.
I'M sure I shouldn't have to spell it out.
