    People who bash Raducanu are mean. She is 18, it was her first Slam and she reached the 4th round, this is huge. She played on the centre court with millions of british watching her, imagine thr pressure. She withdrew because she couldn't breath well and the doctors told her it was the safest option. Health is more important than anything else, she made the right decision. I'm sure she has a bright future ahead of her. Congratulations to her.

      I don't understand the hate that Mcenroe got. He wasn't wrong and he even offered an example of his own that it was a good thing to have happened.
      Nothing he said was sexist.
      I don't think it will help her that all her opponents know now that he may struggle with pressure. I wonder if she got fined for not doing her press conference Osaka style

    Another great interview by Emma giving all the right answers from someone who will do what it takes to succeed. Well done to her. There are big questions however, to be asked of the BBC and Wimbledon for the scheduling of her match. As soon as I saw this schedule, I immediately thought this could be problematic, both in the obvious start time delay and the recovery time for the winner next day. Whoever agreed this was very, very wrong, and this match should never have been placed after the mens match. This decision could only have been pushed for by the BBC for viewing numbers with no regard to the welfare of Emma or Ijla, whoever won. The people responsible must be seriously taken to task for such an obvious failure.

      @ricklee5431 Před 2 lety +4

      Absolutely. The same criticism has been raised regarding the Barty/Tomljanovic match. The latter had a very short recovery time due to the scheduling.

      The whole tournament was scheduled around British players and Federer. Medvedev got royally screwed by Wimbledon this year. First number 2 seed I've seen to not make it to Center Court in decades.

      @martm216 Před 2 lety +5

      Yes I was surprised the match was played so late on Monday night. The media in general heap such a weight of expectation on any young British prodigy who emerges on the tennis scene. I'm normally a fan and a defender of the BBC, but they too have been guilty of hyping up the focus on this young lady. Yes, of course enjoy the moment, but they overdid it. She seems a super person and hope she is left in comparative peace to develop her potential as a player and as a person. Apparently she is good academically, so who knows, she might want to go to university?

    A fine new talent to support and hope for continued success.
    I had to investigate the McEnroe comments after I saw he was
    (again) being criticized, and it appears he was (again) spot on.
    Some of Raducanu's anxiety had already been hinted at when
    she attempted to try to give the social media buzz a bit of
    distance.
    Mister McEnroe has always been candid enough about his temperament
    and issues, and he was not harsh or unkind in his analysis of Raducanu.
    We've gotten to see lots of different coping strategies from tennis
    players of both sexes over the years and the various levels of success
    of those strategies, especially at the major tournaments.
