  • Hi All Wolf Lord Rho here!
Today Corax week begins! And where better to start, then by discussing the Raven Lords' most defining moment... the drop-site massacre.
Spoiler Warning to begin the events we are discussing today are from the Horus Heresy Novel "The First Heretic" by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. As always I really recommend you read the story for yourself first. As that's the best way to enjoy the lore, for yourself! Not only that we help to support the great Games Workshop and Black Library. Because without them we don't have this amazing lore to talk about! Link: www.blacklibrary.com/the-horu...

I've said this once, but this really show how hardcore Corvax is and much of a loser Lorgar remain. Think about it. The dude got the official daemon ascension, probable training from the four, a turf to stand on and mold as he wished, his boys and years of experience to go by.
Corvax likely shifted without any warning, had to learn to use his new stuff by himself in constant enemy territory, then, he went by himself, again, against Lorgar 's gang who I assume has experience with daemon stuff. All of them and their boss in familiar terrain...
And Corvax still one-sidedly whooped his ass with no effort on his end. The dude got his ass kicked in his homeland by a dude who just managed to get a grasp on his new powers while outnumbering him. This is embarrassing for him, and pretty impressive for Corvax.

I wish so much that Corax's greatest moments are forthcoming. I would love to see Lorgar return and start some nonsense with Guilleman only to have Corax return from the Eye of Terror to save Big Blue.... And have it happen is such a way that Corax satisfies his need for vengeance and can finally once again return to the Imperium, and his legion.

They get to either Deliverance or Fenris when out of the Eye of Terror come Space Odin Russ and Raven Demon Corvus. Russ breaks Magnus backwards over his knee for old time’s sake and Corvus shanks Lorgar back into the Warp so he can spend the next 10k years under his bed sucking his thumb again.

With Lorgar dead, it would have had massive effects on the Heresy. It would have meant to surprise attack on Ultramar and thus Ultramarines would have retained a lot more of their strength. Combine that to there not being Ruinstorm, it would have also meant Ultramarines would have been able to reinforce other fronts around the galaxy along with them being able to arrive to defend Terra in the Siege much earlier forcing Horus to retreat and leading to the Emperor surviving. And without Lorgar to ascend Angron into Daemonhood, he would have died to Nails and the World Eaters would probably have shattered.

Corax is my favourite because his is the ultimate greek tragedy level story.
He's the only primarch that was more than a primarch. He was human. He didn't see himself as a weapon or a tool. He was the only one who considered a life for himself after the crusade. Wanted to be a military historian.
Yet he's the one who fell the most. He never turned to Chaos. But he abandoned his humanity and turned himself into a weapon for vengeance.
He's not a traitor or a loyalist in the end. Just a weapon. He never betrayed anyone. But he did betray himself.
He's arguably the only primarch except maybe Vulcan. Who didn't see himself as superior to his sons or to ordinary humans. He was better than a primarch. He was human. And that's where all the rest. even Gulliman and the Emperor failed.

*But he lied to us.... Father lied.* All this, before he reflects on the fact that of all his brothers, he least wanted to fight, and yet found himself dying on a battlefield.
I'm no fan of Lorgar, but I can't help but feel for him when he says that. It doesn't make his actions right, or excusable, but it shows just how human all the Primarchs were, Lorgar perhaps most of all.

Everyone loves an "Emo Raven Guard" meme but in my mind the Ravens are so criminally underwritten. Some of my favourite lore throughout the Horus Heresy books centres around the Ravens and Corax particularly. It's definitely slightly sad when the Iron Hands get so much attention throughout the series but the Raven guard (much like the Alpha Legion) barely get a mention.
Corax was very much an underrated Primarch and definitely one that deserved more. Hopefully you'll finish Corax week on the Corax vs Lorgar short story which opens things open so well for a potential return for both of them....

I do have just one piece of advice though: when rereading the books in preparation for a new video, I’d advise taking down more complete notes. You made a few errors in this video (which is unlike you from what I can tell), like stating that there were only two Primarchs waiting for them on the surface, and that the World Eaters were part of the reinforcements of ‘loyalists’ that arrived later, and no mention of the Alpha Legion (I’m guessing you meant to say Alpha Legion but said World Eaters by mistake).

Corax is criminally underrated and deserves more justice. Most of his brothers are in the line of “the man of vanity stands in the front so the world sees him” while Corvus Corax is more like “the man with no vanity stands in the back so that he can see the world”. This Primarch never seeks attention, couldn’t give a damn if he’s in the spotlight, never begged dad’s attention or favours and is focused in doing his job in the most efficient manner possible. I like to think that the fact there’s scarce lore about the Ravenguard is a testament of their efficiency
