  • Hi all Wolf Lord Rho here!
Today Night Lords Week continues! As we discuss the Ruinous Powers themselves... and their desire to claim the Night Lords Legion!
General Spoiler Warning and a specific one for the novel "Soul Hunter" by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. As always I really recommend you read the story for yourself first! As that's the best way to enjoy the lore, for yourself. Not only that we help to support the great Games Workshop and Black Library. because without them we don't have this amazing lore to talk about! Link: www.blacklibrary.com/warhamme...

In the HH book “legacies of Betrayal” has a short story with “Tagitai Yusugui” as the main character and it goes into his backstory and how he got his name. He as a special person with golden eyes was taken to a mountain top to meditate and wait for a vision. He received one. The 4 chaos goods came to him in this vision and told him to drink from the cup in his hands. The 5th figure did not say anything and was made of cold blinding light. The fifth is highly implied to be the Emperor as Yusugui got the feeling that the other 4 disliked the 5th one. It’s a very good story and I think it would make an awesome video when told by you.

I agree that, if they were to devote themselves to one of the Four, the Night Lords would likely pledge themselves to Slaanesh. The berserk fury of Khorne does not seem to fit their MO and Tzeentch's gifts are either sufficiently present in the legion or of little use to the Night Lords. I think Slaanesh fits because of the sadism present in the legion and how they revel in the excess of fear that they produce. The resistance the Night Lords in general towards submitting to the Chaos Gods, makes the Chaos Gods want them even more. The main reason the Night Lords refuse the Chaos Gods is that their reason for breaking away from the Emperor was they were tired being forced to obey a master. They wanted to answer only to themselves. Submitting to the Chaos Gods would be, in their eyes, just shackling themselves to a new master. They are determined to never be bound to another's will, mortal or otherwise.

I think Khorn would just show Talos and his legions doing what they did best: inflicting pain and making the Imperium bleed. He would show Talos on the bridge of his ship, once again presiding over the slaughter and feeling that he had once again, if even for a moment, made the Emperor understand what he did to the Night Lords; letting Talos taste Justice for his Primarch with every world he puts to the sword.

It’s thus easy to understand why his sons are none too eager to pledge themselves to another power or powers as a group; individuals are making personal choices.

Slanesh is tempting for the nightlords but outside of the alucard abridged fetishes, I get a more colder, darker vibe from the nightlords like a space warp entity that specializes in ritual suicide and twisted justice. All the chaos gods exist and need living creatures for power but perhaps there could be a black hole abyss of a god that has deemed that justice for the galaxy is to return everything to nothing. A chaos god that wants to ruin the game so to say is a monster of monsters.
But otherwise the nightlords are in such a dynamic position with so many different themes, I adore how the nightlords are themselves feeling divided between the gods like the last slices of pizza.

Maybe Korne would actually despise the Night Lords for their cowardly and underhanded tactics, the way they kill the weak and their latent psychic powers. The Death gaurd and Iron warriors would be much better suited to the Korne in my opinion.

Im taking part in a Crusade, and Im playing NL and Im actually running them so the characters involved are being influenced by the gods, though not outright worship. Basically each of the gods representing one aspect of the Legion's core principles.
Khorne- by far the easiest. Khorne is the god of Murder. the Night Lords were a legion of brutal murderers and killers, even before they fell. Their bloodthirst fits nicely, as well as their practice of taking trophies from their kills
Slaanesh- represents their sadism, and them instilling the fear in their enemies of not just death, but all the agonies that come before it. Also represents the thrill they take in the hunt for their vicitms
Tzeentch- Represents their cunning, and using their enemies fear itself as a weapon to manipulate them. Also represents them using the shadows/darkness to conceal themselves until ready to make the killing strike
Nurgle- Represents their Nihilism and despair, both their own and that they evoke in their enemies. People forget that Nurgle is not JUST a god of disease and rot, he is fore most a god of fear and despair, fear of death, fear of pain, the main weapon and tool the whole legion itself is known for.

The Night Lords seem to have a pretty potent psychic potential. And they are Space Marines. I think those two elements alone show why the Chaos Gods were interested. They could be molded in so many ways by the Ruinous Powers, I am reminded of a Swiss Army Knife; a multitool for every occasion at the hands of Chaos. What interests me the most honestly is why Nurgle bowed out of the bidding war so to speak that the Gods are putting on.

While I can agree about the Night Lords Legion being unwanted by Nurgle, a fun point I thought of was that Nurgle might've wanted Konrad Curze himself. Nurgle is the God of disease and decay yes, but also of despair and cycles. As we all know, Konrad was full of despair over what he thought was a certain fate. I could easily see Nurgle sweeping in to flip the script and get Konrad to see the "beauty" of his cycles of life and death, of accepting fate and giving in to his despair.
