    Hello Jay Jay i have watching your channel recently, i am only this year turned into someone whose new obsession is roses. I had started out with David Austin and still a big fan of that, but since watching your channel i have broadened my taste, i did today visit Eastcroft to get some bare root and found Peter very helpful with loads of tips, i will definitely go back and visit when the roses are in bloom next year. Thank you for your videos and help.

    7:58 Perfectly quartered. 9:32 The palest blush of green around the exterior petals suggests a common ancestry to Kordes Paschmina Veranda. Also the unreal huge number of buds is a trait of Paschmina Veranda. 10:47 I also do not care for bicolor roses, but this Marc Chagall is made up of colors that integrate well together. I do like the appearance of the Chagal rose, best appreciated close up, from a distance, rather ho hum. I suppose, really, that most roses are best appreciated close up, roses from afar only make a great showing if they are planted en masse, then it becomes a sort of communism, where the individual is nothing, the collective is everything.
    Very nice! Thank you!
    Ralph from Ohio.

    Hi Jay Jay…Wedding Piano is a Tantau Bred Rose…despite the Description of the Breeder she is not very hardy to Rain…she doesn’t mind a shower but I have thrown her out because of the Mumies she does in rainy weather and she really needs support then otherwise she just lays on the Ground…🤷‍♀️
    I suppose they don’t ship Roses to Germany ?

    • @Jay_Jay
      @Jay_Jay  Před rokem +1

      Hi. This is interesting, Peter the owner did advise me he was unsure how it would perform in wet weather. How long did you have her for? Im unsure if Peter would ship to Germany, I’d hope he would!! I will ask him and update this comment.

      @@Jay_Jay Good Morning Jay Jay….I had it for one Planting Season, came in March, left in November, i have very limited Space here and the ones for Roses that need an Umbrella are packed…in that year we had a rainy May and you could see the Buds getting browner, some didn’t open, the next few month it went very hot and dry and she did good, loved that greenish colour…after August lots of Rain till Oktober, she grew good but from the heavy Buds she lay on the Ground and the Flowers didn’t look good as well…so I gave her to somebody with a covered Balcony and she is very happy with it…

    • @Jay_Jay
      @Jay_Jay  Před rokem +1

      @@obiwankenobi6952 that’s interesting, someone did make a comment on a previous video that she owns it and the first year or two she did rot in wet weather. But onwards of that her flowers flourish even in wet weather which is more consistent with what Tantau claim. Sounds odd I know but I’m rolling with it for now. She’s gonna get a year or three and I’ll see how she performs over time and of course I’ll keep you updated. :) thanks obiwan:)

  • @nikkonch
    @nikkonch Před rokem +1

    In case anyone is interested Line (pronounced like the English word "lean") Renaud is a French singer and actress, still appearing in films to the present day at the age of 95! I suppose that although one name per rose would be veery convenieentBut to get back to the roses - Wedding Piano is striking, but from another comment here maybe not for wet UK gardens, although as a wedding decoration excellent. Did you actually smell the roses in the air or just close up? I suppose a windy day would tend to dispel the fragrances.

    • @nikkonch
      @nikkonch Před rokem +2

      Sorry my fingers slipped - as I was trying to say, although one name per rose would be convenient, some names are more significant and well-known in the country where the rose was grown and alternative names easier to pronounce and remember in another country are useful.

    • @Jay_Jay
      @Jay_Jay  Před rokem

      Hi nik. First of all the name changing, I see what your getting at and can see why some would prefer to change the name from a commercial basis but let’s look at the Line Renaud rose. The breeder gave this rose that name. And as you point out 95 years of age and still performing. Do you see what I’m getting at? She deserves it. Also even from a commercial basis if everyone was singing from the same hymn sheet everyone would have an easier job of finding these roses. The irony is of course all roses DO have the same name which no-one including myself ever uses because it’s an anagram come part letters that don’t even make a word in ANY language. If Line Renaud was used and kept globally it would be far more recognition for her and I think a better deal all round. But I suspect it’s the deals and double deals, patents and copyrights that are done in different parts of the world that give us what we have today.
      Now the wedding piano, I actually bought the one you see here and you are correct. As Peter warned me at the time he was not sure how it would fair in wet weather. I can confirm that every single bud you see here balled and failed to open. All those unopened buds failed to open. However, it was pointed out to me by someone who has had it for sometime that the first year or two the buds do rot in wet weather. But after this time the buds perform well in wet weather which is more consistent with what Tantau claim. That it is a rose that performs well in rain. That’s what Tantau are claiming. This was a rose I walked away from and actually done some research on prior to buying it and when I saw the rose breeders claim I thought I’d give it a go. That of course doesn’t mean it will perform well in wet weather but it’s something I decided to give it a chance to see how it does in my garden. The hope is it turns around but will see.
      The fragrance some of the roses I didn’t smell I can see I didn’t smell pacific blue. It was a lazy video nik I just didn’t think it would ever get uploaded. If I smell a rose I always put my nose to it during or before filming. :)

      I’m really sorry I wouldn’t know. What I would say is it’s worth finding it. I was sceptical about its weather resistance claims by Tantau. I did ask him about the price of them standards and I’ll be honest he wasn’t sure himself. It all started of as a hobby for him and that shows. But he is working on it. Give it till bare root season or spring next year and I think things will be much clearer.

    @marilynsmith8054 Před rokem +2

    Hi Jay wish I knew about this nursery before I bought all mine from David Austin. Could have saved a lot of money. It’s within distance for me. What do you think of the quality compared to David Austin?

    • @Jay_Jay
      @Jay_Jay  Před rokem

      You and me both Marilyn. The quality of these potted roses the best I have ever seen. You have to bare in mind when posted the roses all get cut back. That said these were in my opinion more superior potted roses to the ones that I saw potted for collection at David Austin’s HQ. However a David Austin rose is a David Austin rose. A Tantau a Tantau etc. The immaculate roses I bought here from Peter I’m seeing blackspot just like all my other roses this particular year. And that includes the David Austin’s. My advice to you Is wait till bare root season and order, or if you just fancy a treat pop along to this field in June next year and you will see a great show of quality roses that you could pick without them being cut down and shipped. His sales field now is nowhere near as full as this I would say the majority of them being sold. I hope this helps.

    • @marilynsmith8054
      @marilynsmith8054 Před rokem +1

      @@Jay_Jay Most of my roses have blackspot too. If you remember I bought one of the last Lady Hamilton roses from David Austin. I have it in a pot and it’s sublime. The perfume is wonderful. Then I purchased wedding piano (the one you see in this video actually) then I done the tour of the growing field that you saw a couple of days ago.
