I love how she got right up there on stage, no stage fright whatsoever, and she OWNED it! She didn't try to upstage Carol, but she was playing right on her level, equally. She should have been in show business, because that woman had pizazz!
And the family story is that the lady that asked "Is that Maude?" met Grandma in line for the show and Grandma was mobbed that day - we have pictures - she tried to tell people that she wasn't "Maude", but no on believed her, hence the "I'm beginning to believe it myself." This happened to her a lot back then - finally she shrugged and just started signing autographs!! She was a HUGE Bea Arthur fan, I don't think she ever missed an episode of the Golden Girls, but she looked more like Sophia at the end of her life than Bea Arthur. Thank you to Jricci9 for posting this for us all to be able to see it again!
Lori, I always wondered how your Grandmother knew that the lady in the audience was from New York. Is it because they met in line for the show? Thank you.
your grandmother was a hoot and could sing her ass off! You should be proud, its one of my favorite clips from the Carol Burnett Show. Im sure she is singing in heaven. RIP
This Carol Burnett episode (the original CB Show) was on tonight on Me.TV with your grandmother. I always assumed she was a professional Maude impersonator because she did look like her, the mannerisms and all..
Exactly....not whores pulling our their tits and cat fighting over some dude because he has a big dick. There's certainly a dropoff....and everyone in their 20's thinks it's normal...because they grew up seeing it.
Oh my goodness I’m watching this after listening to the Conan podcast where he interviewed Ms. Burnett and she regaled them with this story. She said Ms. McCann’s family wrote her 5 years ago shortly after she passed and they said they played this at her memorial service. 😭 she lived to 100 It was so touching 😭😭😭
This is just SO classic. I mean the way Carol Burnett cracked up laughing....and the genuine nature of the conversation and the audience...it just made for such an amazing watch......AMAZING in the Key of G!
I love how Terry initially denies the resemblance in a tongue-in-cheek way, then decides to just dive right into it... Even though Bea Arthur was still alive at the time, you'd think she was channelling her spirit with the way she said: "I got kissed by the most DARRRRLING little man...!"
I'm so glad I found this! The world needs the JOY Terry McCann radiates so naturally. And, Carol Burnett recognized this indeed, making her the ☆ she is and always will be! I love you both Thank you. P.S. 🎼YOU MADE ME LOVE YOU . . . 🎶
the most generous, and genuine SUPER STARS you will ever find.. CAROL is a treasure. I did not see this later version, but remember the first one.. hysterical..
I've loved Carol Burnett since I was a little girl (I'm 49 now) and love this episode with all of my heart! This lady Terry McCann has it all over every audience member who ever made it up on stage with Carol. I just read the story of her from the lady in the comments and what a wonderful woman she sounded like. God bless her soul. Long live Carol Burnett!
I used to watch this show, with my nanny; it was our favorite. We were both a little lonely in our own ways, and always found comfort hanging out with each other. It tickled us both that Carol Burnett called her grandmother, “nanny”, too. Thank you Carol Burnett (and the rest of the cast), for the everlasting memory of hearing my (normally) stoic grandmother howl in laughter.
This is hilarious. I have seen the "Maude" clip numerous times. This is my husbands Grandma!! I have never caught on that Carol Burnett never asked the other lady where she as from! :) Grandma is turning 100 in a couple of weeks! It would be great if Carol were to wish her a Happy Birthday!
Apparently one of your relatives lori Jenss, also said she was related to this wonderful lady, but that unfortunately, she had passed shortly before the time of the comment. She did make it to 100 though! Blessings on your extended family.
I read on another board from a woman who was in the audience that night, that although Carol and Terry did not know each other, the FIRST lady who asked "Is that lady Maude?" knew Terry and it was a set-up between Terri and the "Lady from New York." And if you notice, how would Terry know that woman was from New York? lol. I never thought of that before! This is so excellent you have this newer clip! Thank you for posting this!
Reading down the line, its hilarious that Your Grandmother and the "little lady from New York" met in the line while waiting to get in, totaly funny! Mrs. Burnett is a genuine person, I wanted to add that, my older Cousin worked at CBS as an intern after she graduated College in 1977. She worked behind the scenes on several Sitcoms, she said if you were lucky enough to experience the Carol Burnett Show in the audience, then you had a grand ol time!!!
This was one of my Favorite Carol Burnett Audince Warm UP's Of All Times, Terry McCain 's was just so precious and her voice was warm and Lovley, and Carol's interaction with her was truly priceless ❤️ 💙 ♥️ ❤❤❤❤❤, That's Why She is Her Childhood Dream Come True She's A True Blue Star of A Golden Afe Of Television😅😅😅😅😅😅, And I l9ve Her From A Special Place Wothin My Heart, Gold Bless And Keep Her.
The very first time I saw this I thought that lady could really belt out a song....on KEY! Been looking for this clip a long time, so thank you for the upload and sharing!! And she does look like Bea Arthur that's for sure!!
OMG I'm old, I remember the first airing of EACH segment, thanks for sharing this moment. Sorry that Terry got the year wrong, it was 1977 or 78, the last season.
I remember seeing this episode before it was a rerun. It was the main topic of conversation, at school, Monday morning. She must have been an amazing woman. Auguri!
Lori, my condolences, let me say, I wondered upon the original clip of You're Grandmother and Carol doing this, I never laughed so hard! My Family watched Carol Burnett every Saturday night in the mid 70's, this is what I call a very special moment in time. What a clip to keep as a family heirloom! Your Grandmother reminds me of my Aunt's, I come from an Italian Family as well and I can definitely relate! God Bless you're Grandmother and thanks for posting this fantastic clip!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this! I remember seeing this on "Carol & Company"! (I'm too young to have seen the original clip from Carol's old show). I had seen versions of the original clip here on CZcams, but I hadn't been able to find this wonderful version until now! Thanks again!
I saw this when it aired originally in 1979. I would have been 11. Forgot about it until seeing a tiktok just now. One of the best impromptu performances ever!
I'm here from the new Conan interview with Carol - this is just brilliant!!! Looks like this lookback episode was filmed at Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida when it was a working studio back in 1989, too. WOW!
Omg that was the best ever I remember that as a kid my mother was laughing so hard terry was a big band singing I heard she was great I thought it was Maude 😘
I believe that this program was from 2004 if Terry McCann was 87 in this episode she looked fantastic. The original was one of the classic Burnett clips in my opinion. Only Carol would get so lucky as to walk in to this one.
Sal Corrente It was during the 70s, and the show ended its run in or around 1978. Though it's said to have been a setup between Terri and the lady in the audience, I wondered if she had ever done very well in show business. Talented lady.
This was actually from 1976, not 1979. The segment comes from Season 10, Episode 15, and aired on CBS on January 15, 1977. It's more likely that the episode was taped towards the end of 76. At the time, Maude had started to fall in the ratings, currently in Season 5 of its 6 season run.
I remember when I first watched this segment on the actual 1970s broadcast. My first thought was, oh no, another amateur who’s going to stink up the show (like today’s “soul” singers). And then she commanded the conductor to play the song in the proper key for her voice, and she was AMAZING!
THAT was the sheer beauty of the show itself. Despite rehearsals, the success stemmed more from the originality that blossomed on the actual show night, ie. Tim's impromptu changes when he guest starred then signed on to the regular cast and the "interesting" and VERY Funny things that popped up when they bumped up the lights for questions...such as this classic and TOP NOTCH scene with Terry McCann. NOTHING like that was completely scripted then kids. That's the BEAUTY of a TALENTED troupe that can work with the humor among everyday reality and craft it into AMAZINGLY HILARIOUS COMEDY. Much like our modern day people do through Second City. Comic Geniuses have come through there like....Bonnie Hunt for example.
That was classic i remember that lady. I thought it was MAUDE what talent. If it wasnt for that lady pointing her out it never apuld happen. The boy from texas was cute two
I was too young to know better when it first aired, but in later years I wondered if it was a setup between the Terri and the woman/ her friend who asked the question, (notice how Terri knew where the woman was from?) online sources say that it was a setup, though not all you read is true. Anyway, I figured she was trying to break into show business and used this plan for that. She could sing, seemed funny and as if she may have had good acting skills, so I would sometimes wonder if she made it with her talent. Sorry to hear of her passing, but it's nice that her family had her for one-hundred years, or close to it. Wow. :)
The Carol and Company shows, as well as the other sequel, were in some ways better than the original, it's a shame they didn't stay on longer, but most of the cast members went on to great careers in television.
I literally thought Terry was an aspiring actress, seeking to grab a moment of fame by impersonating Bea Arthur! I can't believe, with that voice and talent, that she didn't launch a big performing career.
CAN anyone tell me if that's Carol's real hair or a wig at the beginning of the show !!!!???? Carol Burnett and Lyonal Wagner and Tim Conway and Vicki Lawrence and Harvey Korman are all geniuses !!!! I watch every skit I can find on CZcams !!!!
TV "shows" today are so lame and sad compared to the likes of Carol Burnett, Johnny Carson, etc.... I consider myself so very fortunate to have watched The Carol Burnett Show when it was being ORIGINALLY aired....
Respectfully, it was not. I'm not sure how old you are, so I apologize in advance. Back then shows like this had full orchestras. Carol had something like a 17 piece orchestra. They could play just about anything on the spot. If you watch the ending, Carol screws it up because she thought Terry was going to end the song another way. Again, not sure your age, but back then these shows were not as "produced" as shows are now. I have friends who know Carol. I might not change your mind, but it was 100% real.
I love how she got right up there on stage, no stage fright whatsoever, and she OWNED it! She didn't try to upstage Carol, but she was playing right on her level, equally. She should have been in show business, because that woman had pizazz!
And the family story is that the lady that asked "Is that Maude?" met Grandma in line for the show and Grandma was mobbed that day - we have pictures - she tried to tell people that she wasn't "Maude", but no on believed her, hence the "I'm beginning to believe it myself." Lori, I always wondered how your Grandmother knew that the lady in the audience was from New York. Is it because they met in line for the show? Thank you.
I've watched this for the first time tonight and several times after that. Its the funniest and cutiest thing I've ever seen.
your grandmother was a hoot and could sing her ass off! You should be proud, its one of my favorite clips from the Carol Burnett Show. Im sure she is singing in heaven. RIP
It would be interesting to see an interview with other lady, too!
This Carol Burnett episode (the original CB Show) was on tonight on Me.TV with your grandmother. I always assumed she was a professional Maude impersonator because she did look like her, the mannerisms and all..
Now THIS is what "reality" TV was, and should always have been.
Exactly....not whores pulling our their tits and cat fighting over some dude because he has a big dick. There's certainly a dropoff....and everyone in their 20's thinks it's normal...because they grew up seeing it.
Totally agree
Terry: "You screwed it up!" Carol: "Sorry!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Carol had NO EGO -- she knew that letting the other people shine made her shine!
Oh my goodness I’m watching this after listening to the Conan podcast where he interviewed Ms. Burnett and she regaled them with this story. She said Ms. McCann’s family wrote her 5 years ago shortly after she passed and they said they played this at her memorial service. 😭 she lived to 100
It was so touching 😭😭😭
❤❤❤❤
My heart!
I also JUST listened to conans episode with Carol and came here to watch!!!
This could never happen today. Rarely does TV allow for such spontaneity anymore. It's always rehearsed. Just amazing.
@JCNDCIII Even the reality shows aren’t spontaneous
Best line: "YOU SCREWED IT UP!" Now kids, THIS was comedy!!!
ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!!!
Unfortunately, there will never be any comedy gold like this again.😢😢😭😭😭
When TV was fun, spontaneous, entertaining, and you actually wanted to watch it!!
Unrehearsed, spontaneous, and hysterical!
One of the great moments in TV history. Classic and totally charming.
I'm so glad I found this! The world needs the JOY Terry McCann radiates so naturally. And, Carol Burnett recognized this indeed, making her the ☆ she is and always will be!
I love you both
Thank you.
P.S. 🎼YOU MADE ME LOVE YOU . . . 🎶
the most generous, and genuine SUPER STARS you will ever find.. CAROL is a treasure. I did not see this later version, but remember the first one.. hysterical..
I love how that woman just blurts out "Is that lady sitting over there Maude"... Carol eyes bugged! 😁
"You Made Me Love You" in the key of G.
How else to charm an audience like that 😄
First guy that got the hug was adorable
I've loved Carol Burnett since I was a little girl (I'm 49 now) and love this episode with all of my heart! This lady Terry McCann has it all over every audience member who ever made it up on stage with Carol. I just read the story of her from the lady in the comments and what a wonderful woman she sounded like. God bless her soul. Long live Carol Burnett!
Carol just did an interview on Alan Alda's new podcast show & talked about your grandmother! Still one of her favorite moments!
Here's the podcast. www.stitcher.com/podcast/clear-vivid-with-alan-alda/e/61823052
@@RaymondHngThank you!
I've seen this a million times and it never gets old it still amazing how Terry looked like Bea/Maude she was such a good sport to
I used to watch this show, with my nanny; it was our favorite. We were both a little lonely in our own ways, and always found comfort hanging out with each other. God Bless Terry McCann and God rest her! What a wonderful woman!!
Back when TV comedy was funny and had class. You'd never see something like this on the air today.
So what? Carol wasn't part of a set up. They got on..it worked.
.
Just hearing the theme song to The Carol Burnette Show brings me back in time to (most likely) sitting on the floor in front of the TV. What a show!
Reading down the line, its hilarious that Your Grandmother and the "little lady from New York" met in the line while waiting to get in, totaly funny! Best Carol Burnette Clip in Existence. :)

I love that woman! ❤❤❤

I wish I had the chance to see one of Carol Burnett's show ❤️
I watched this episode when it first aired

What a lovely talented lady! I would’ve believed her if she told me she was Maude!
1979 can't be right, if last show was in March of 78.
I think this was 1976, not 1979. Brilliant moment of television
How nice everyone is dressed.

I vividly remember seeing this when it originally aired.

Fabulous! ❤
That first wardrobe was from the Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett Special 🤩

I guess I'll join all the other supposed "grandkids" and say " HEY! this is my grandma!"
hey! me too!! this is MY grandma!!
WOW!!! This Was Not Planed HAHA!!!! SO FUNNY!!!!!!!

It would be great to meet carol burnett in person maybe get a hug from her and go to lunch with her.

This video is the first time that I seen her with some weight on. I didn't even recognize her; but she still looks great‼️
I think at the 5:13 mark Anna Paquin did a little time traveling... wow
Wow

I'm pretty sure that's a wig.
jricci9 : That's what I'm thinking, too; and I thought I was the only one who thought that ; thanks so much for validating my hunch !!!!
I recall a skit in which she pulls off her wig and it was her "style" wig...so I think it was.
TV "shows" today are so lame and sad compared to the likes of Carol Burnett, Johnny Carson, etc.... I consider myself so very fortunate to have watched The Carol Burnett Show when it was being ORIGINALLY aired....
Conan sent me here. 😅
Too bad Carol didn't have Bea Arthur on at the same time
That doesnt look like 79. Id say 74
76
I’m a musician. That had to be rehearsed. I don’t care what she says
