Robin gets Carol to laugh when he sings the jump down turn around song and then to see him smile as he realizes she is trying to hold back the laughter is a great moment.
It was the greatest moment of the video. She is a seasoned professional; it was quite a compliment to the greatest ad libber of all time. And as a substitution for "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" -- at a funeral -- it was totally outrageous. I was laughing so hard I almost missed her reaction and long recovery attempt. His smile was beautific.
It was magic that this generation won't know. But you can see the light and the fun in their eyes. It tells you the comedy magic that was happening. We knew. We lived it. Thank you to the legends.
And leave to to Carol to make a snappy come back to stop Robin in his tracks. LOL. It takes a great talent to stun Robin. So may HUGE laughs came from one liners on the Carol Burnette show that put everyone in the floor. The biggest one from the Mama knows best scene with Tim and the elephant story.
Yes, what an amazing talented man. Everytime I see one his skits, he cracks me up and then I feel a little sad bc there will be no more from him. But I am so grateful we have what we do have! Carol Burnett always had great comediens - Tim Conway, Harvey Korman... But Robin Williams is defintely one of the greatest!
Two comedic geniuses at the height of their craft. It is so cool to see how they ad lib and feed off of one another in a live situation. I could not stop laughing. When I think of either Carol or Robin it brings a smile. This is the Robin Williams I will remember. Thank you Carol and Robin for bringing so much laughter into my life.
At the height of their craft? Robin Williams was practically a newcomer. If I'm not mistaken, he hadn't even made "Moscow On The Hudson" yet. He had only done Mork on "Happy Days", barely started "Mork & Mindy", a starred in "The World According To Garp"!
For those interested...this skit isn't from "The Carol Burnett Show". This is a sketch from a one hour comedy special that aired on ABC in February 1987 called "Carol, Carl, Whoopi and Robin". Carol Burnett hosted the show with guests Robin Williams, Carl Reiner & Whoopi Goldberg. Robin Williams won an Emmy Award for his performance in this special - well deserved for sure.
Robin truly was a genius. The master of improv. I am so glad I came across this video. I had never seen him work with Carol. As a child I would watch her show with my mom and laugh hysterically. Robin was perfect for this skit! Thank you so much for posting this. And of course, thank you Robin for making us all laugh so hard. You will be forever remembered and missed!
His improv was rehearsed. I once saw him on the Tonight Show and Arsenio at the same time. His "improvised" lines were exactly the same on both. The questions asked by Johnny/Arsenio were the same.
@@fjccommish - Yes, Robin did rehearse the material for his shows endlessly. He also had "stored" responses to questions or statements that regularly came up during interviews (or he would respond with show material). There was also much ad-libbing. However, there are many interviews and talk shows during which Robin was continuously ad-libbing. Watch him with Billy Crystal on the Jay Leno show when there was an electrical power problem. Watch him with Johnny Carson, particularly the earlier shows. Most of that was ad-lib. Watch his comedy club acts before he became a household name: Rehearsed material followed by ad-libbing as he walked through the audience. Good Morning, Vietnam: Most of the on-air patter was ad-lib. They put him on the set and let the cameras roll. Robin produced hours of material from which the scenes in the movie were cut and spliced. Same with Aladdin. If my memory serves, Robin produced about 14 hours of non-rehearsed material. He would be given the scene set-up and feed a character's line and off Robin would go! The animation was finished after the director selected the audio. NOTE: If you are a Robin Williams fan, I really encourage you to watch it. The title is "Robin Williams & Billy Crystal Leno Tonight Show 1997."
@@fjccommish Why the need to diminish... or was it, you were actually there while he rehearsed and experienced it and grew tired of the repetitiveness during rehearsal?
First was funny...second was HILARIOUS. Robin took the small bits of dead air in the first scripted sketch and made them amazing. Carol's energy in the improv was great too.
"You gotta jump down, spin around, pick a bail o' cotton" -Carol, looking away and pinching her nose to try to keep from bursting out laughing. It's incredible that Williams was just making all this up on the spot as he went along with the basic story line.
Based on here introduction, he already had some of the things he wanted to do worked out, probably including that song. But the filler -- that's where the real ad-libbing is, and between the two of them it's genius. I barely laughed at the first "take," but the second one was absolutely hilarious.
@@angelbear_og A loose outline of how the sketch would go with general lines, most likely, with the rest being improv. At best they probably wrote in a few jokes here and there, but it would defeat the point of the show if they were too restrictive.
Carol Burnett is the funniest comedienne ever!! Her show and standup never disappointed. And her timing was spot on. Her voices. A truly gift woman. Love her!!!!
Always loved Carol Burnett show she is a fabulous entertainer a wonderful comedian! I watch the reruns! And I love Robin Williams he was such an amazing actor a very funny man. I've watched all the movies he's been in such an amazing actor. When you put Carol Burnett and Robin Williams together you got a fabulous team! Robin Williams is missed by many many people. Well, basically what can anyone say. except thank you so much for the memories and the reminder of Robin, gone too soon.
Yeah, next to Carol struggling not to laugh, and possibly the outrageous song substitution, the coffee line was one of the most hilarious of the video. With the warning "Be careful."

The 2nd version is hilarious. He sticks to the script enough so she has guidelines. To think he came up w that on the fly wow. He was brilliantly funny😁
Two geniuses of comedy. So sad Robin Williams is gone. The news of his developing Lewy Body disease was simply too much for him to bear. The day that Carol leaves us, will be a very sad day, too. She is a national treasure and a legendary trailblazer in the world of comedy.
Lord Eden All I meant was that I related more to his earlier days when he played 'Mork' on TV; and the comedy skits that were clean and could be watched and enjoyed by the entire family.
ThatClassic70sGirl It wasn't about his earlier days or later days. When he was on network TV, he was clean. But if anything, he was far MORE adult oriented with his own act in the 70s.
FuckYouGooglePlus Well based on your username, I guess you'd find his "adult oriented" act (with the f-bombs and other off-color humor) as preferable. That's just not my style. Btw, nice sentiment. I can relate to your sense of frustration, if not the phraseology.
8:07, I almost choked on my coffee I laughed so hard. Two comedy legends feeding off each other. Their chemistry was excellent, and Carol really got Robin at the end.
Got to give Carol Burnett a lot of credit for this skit. This stuff could only happen on her show. She recognised William’s talent before he became a huge hit. A lost venue for creativity.
Two of the most funniest ever......humanity has lost something with comedians nowadays - this had an innocence to it and LOVE how he was able to include even funnier words in the second round.
A little over 30 years ago, I watched a Mother's Day special that included Robin Williams and his mother. SHE is where Robin got his comedic ad lib chops. What a funny, wonderful woman... In an interview, she had Robin -- and me -- in stitches. What a gift she gave us in her son -- and what a loss to the world it was when he passed away. If the measure of one's life is to have left the world better than one found it, Robin and his mother succeeded spectacularly.
The 2nd take was hilarious. You can almost see how his mind works, how it's constantly improving and adding to what was already done. Hers, too. Her "BS" was great! Two unique genius talents together. I'm glad we at least still have Carol.
I adore her improvisation re: the hamster, complete with her fingers curved like claws. Wonderful response to Williams's improv. And yes: the 2nd version was better than the 1st.
I had the gift of meeting Mr.Robin Williams after an outdoor standup show. It was mid-late 70s . My date ( who was working 1 of the lighting crew) took me back stage to meet him. As Mr. Williams was walking towards me with his *crew* talking behind/side of him, Mr. Williams stopped while putting his hand up..they all stopped & hushed. My date introduced us, Robin shook my hand, asked if I enjoyed the show..kissed my hand goodbye then continued on..memory that will forever be in my heart. Love you Mr.Robin Williams. R.I.P. Forever Loved.🥰💞🤙🌺🦜🤟💋
Carol & Robin! 2 Comedic Geniuses together. Here's the cure for depression, folks! Robin is the master...but Carol is the consummate match for him onstage. So Great.
It's so wonderful to be able to see this hilarious sketch from 1987, ''A Carol Burnett Special ... Carol, Carl, Whoopi & Robin." Robin looks so young at age 36.
Jarrett Duffey I'm sure he was so pleased with himself for making Carol Burnett laugh! That's what comedians live for - to make people laugh. But when they make a master at their craft laugh, they must be floating in air.
She was laughing so hard on the second take at the coffin, when he sang "Pick a bale o' Cotton". The smile on his face looked like he was experiencing one of the best moments of his life, pure joy at having made a master comedienne crack up. I loved every second of this performance.
God ! I loved Robin Williams !!He was brilliant . I don’t think there will ever be another person with his brilliance and comedic timing. So sadddd/ but he left the world a better place just by being here. I’m sure that was his purpose in life.
Carol Burnett was famous for not wanting any breaks - they happened anyway of course because all of those people we genius-level talent - but she worked so hard to control them. She honestly did a masterful job here, but the most-classic example can be found by searching CZcams for "tim conway elephant" Anyway
Robin Williams was the King of Improv! you just never knew what to expect to come flying out of his mouth and he had a million characters and voices! RIP Mr. Williams you are a legend.
I forgot Robin Williams had them do it AGAIN!!! I remember how fun it was to perform and how when it was done you always wanted to do it again, just shows how much he loved doing what he did. LOVE HIM!!! RIP ROBIN!
Carol & Robin melded together so perfectly in "The Funeral". How wonderful is it that she would do the sketch a second time, allowing Robin to do what he built up his career doing so perfectly. I don't think people realize that he only had to go through his lines usually just once, and knew the lines of practically everyone in the scene. He was brilliant in most everything he did.
This was so funny I have tears of laughter running down my face. I would have loved to see Robin Williams and Tim Conway in the same skit. I don't think any one would have been able to keep a straight face.
This is the scene I’m doing for theatre...the fact that Robin Williams preformed this scene makes me honored to be able to even try to be deliver this as amazingly as he did. Rest in peace legend...
This is actually the first time I’ve watched a comedy skit with him since he’s passed away. Two comic geniuses at work - thank you Robin for making me laugh.
James w: l specifically did not mention Heaven or Hell because 1: I do not believe in either and 2: I know that there are people who think that if you commit suicide you will be damned, regardless of how much you helped others and made the world a happier, brighter place beforehand. Neither you nor I have ANY IDEA WHATSOEVER of what Mr. Williams was feeling near the end of his life and you can’t honestly tell me that if you were in the same position as he was in, with a body and a mind that was slowly but steadily shutting down in front of your eyes with no hope of a cure, that you would do anything differently. I’m assuming your a Christian, if I am incorrect I apologize. I respect you and I CAN respect most of your beliefs as well, but not this one.
Carol Burnett was renowned for her ad libbing whenever an actor missed a line during the early days of television. I saw a documentary where the leads of a (local?) tv show told the audience they were going to deliberately screw up their lines just to show off Burnett's improve skills. And she kept the scene going. The leads however were not as good as Williams and Conway so the scene was bland.
Whenever Carol widened then crossed her eyes, she was trying not to laugh during the skit (She admitted this on Jimmy Fallon). Watch how many times Robin makes her do this... GOD I MISS HIM... But we still have Carol Burnett and Betty White.
😂 I sure miss Robin Williams may he Rest In Peace. I can imagine he has the Angels absolutely rolling in laughter .. How young they are in this clip!!😂 He and Carol Burnett, legends both, made a great team! 💖
Carol, Harvey, Tim, Vicki, Lyle and her incredible guest stars...such as the legendary Mr Williams, never disappointed. I know there are talented comedians now, but I sure miss the classics sometimes. There was a lot of innuendo, but it still felt safe. Idk, maybe I lived in a bubble growing up in the late 60s and 70s, but I thought grown-ups knew what was going on, would take care of the bad guys/world crisis/natural disaster/all the "ism's," and make it all better. So I figured in the meantime, after Dad watched Walter, they (whoever They were) said, "Here's some laughs before bedtime." I miss that innocence. 😔
Those were the days..... I watch certain channels on TV that play the classics. I can't watch the news or the crap they call comedy today. I wish we could go back in time.
Oh my gosh!!! 🤣😂🤣😂 I laughed so hard I had tears with this one!!! He has cracked me up every since I first saw him!!! So much incredible natural talent!!! He was definitely a blessing to this world!!! I miss him.
The movie he did "The Angriest Man in Brooklyn" was the opposite he was very annoyed at being told he had literally hours to live. Although a paper thin artery handled him losing it at the world's slowest store clerk James Earl Jones.
A comic genius (Robin) with a comedy legend (Carol). Gone too soon ... I hope he knew how very much he was loved and is missed by all of us. He left a tremendous body of work for generations to cherish. Rest In Peace, Robin. 💜😥

She got him! Carol Burnett got the greatest improvisational actor of all-time Robin Williams! I've watched nearly every video of Robin Williams ever filmed and the only two times I can remember Robin cracking was with his mother and now this one with Carol Burnett. Two of the greatest ever!
One has to wonder at what point when Carol Burnett began to ask herself "At what point did I loose control of this sketch??" .....but one has to agree,......they are both great comedians of any age......

The 2nd version is hilarious. He sticks to the script enough so she has guidelines. To think he came up w that on the fly wow. He was brilliantly funny😁
Some of his best work is like that but he probably practiced at home lol
He was a king of improv comedy! It was almost scary how fast he could come up with material.
@Mom Of Three It exists.
@Mom Of Three search for Robin Williams on Whose Line Is It Anyway with Drew Carey
No one comments that she was bleeped for saying "bullshit".
This and Chuckles the Clown's funeral have you laughing, peeing and crying at the same time. 👏🏽👍🏽😁Rest in Peace Robin.🙏🏽
Two geniuses of comedy. So sad Robin Williams is gone. The news of his developing Lewy Body disease was simply too much for him to bear. The day that Carol leaves us, will be a very sad day, too. She is a national treasure and a legendary trailblazer in the world of comedy.
"...There's some coffee in the embalming room; but it tastes funny, so be careful..." Ahhahahaha, that was Robin at his best! XD
ThatClassic70sGirl If that was his best I am thankful I have not seen his worst!
ThatClassic70sGirl
I love the little stare-off near the end, like they were both trying to see who would crack first.
8:07, I almost choked on my coffee I laughed so hard. Two comedy legends feeding off each other. Their chemistry was excellent, and Carol really got Robin at the end.
You could say he really got _her_ at the end. And appreciated the compliment.
One problem with this scene is...where do you go from here?
Williams and Burnett together, PURE GOLD!!!
Robin always made me laugh. I never thought he would make me cry. Rest in peace. You will be missed.
Yeah, he could, but he'd do or say something to bring you up again. i'm going to have a Robin Williams movie fest.
You never seen Dead Poets Society?
Robin Williams had such a special gift of making everyone laugh
Hello
Robin sure knew how to put the FUN in funeral.
AquaCarb oh gawd lol
AquaCarb 😂👏🏼👏🏼he would have said that!
He could put the fun in anything.

I like the way Robin William's did it the second time. Much funnier retake. He was a genius when it came to comedy.
Two comedy giants going head to head, both being brilliant ❤
LOVE that Ms. Burnett could keep up with Mr. Williams...match him, measure for measure...there are a precious few who could do that
Rest in Peace Robin Williams. I can't believe you've left us.
Shattered beyond all comprehension.
same here. still in shock.
+Teri Larison ?
TedWatts216 someone had written something ugly. that's why i responded that way. they must have deleted it.
Caroleena How can he rest in peace when he killed himself? I don't think that's possible.
"Pray for me." The perfect set up for a second time through the skit.
My goodness, Carol Burnett is brilliant in this clip. How few could play the foil to a Robin Williams.
love robin's expression at the very end. shocked and amused by carol - classic!
I wish they'd left a few more seconds at the end of the skit. The look on Robin's face when Carol says 'bullshit' is priceless.
moviedetective303 Thanks! I knew I had seen this before & this got cut short! 🙏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
moviedetective303 Just watched that full one! Thanks BEST EVER! HILARIOUS!
moviedetective303 Awe it’s been removed 😞
Yap, I thought the same thing!
That's what I was thinking. It cut off and I was like "shit".
I have to remember that, "Thank you for coming is code for go away now!!!!" I have some people I need to use that on.
Me too
I had the gift of meeting Mr.Robin Williams after an outdoor standup show.
So Great.
Hello Patricia, How are you doing?
It's so wonderful to be able to see this hilarious sketch from 1987, ''A Carol Burnett Special ... Carol, Carl, Whoopi & Robin." Robin looks so young at age 36.
Kate McMurry Thank you. I wondered about that.
Great the first time and just killed it the second time!
"is he in here?"
OMFG......that was great.
"WHAT???" *SLAM!!!* LOL!!!
Suzanne i was thinking the same thing lol
God ! I loved Robin Williams !!He was brilliant . I don’t think there will ever be another person with his brilliance and comedic timing. So sadddd/ but he left the world a better place just by being here. I’m sure that was his purpose in life.
She got him too. They're both greats and legendary..
Hello Karen
How are you doing today?
There will never be another Robin... He was one of a kind...
One of their funniest routines ever, especially the second version. Two geniuses at work.
I miss him so much. He has given me happiness in my life. I can't look at him without smiling.
This was so funny I have tears of laughter running down my face. I would have loved to see Robin Williams and Tim Conway in the same skit. I don't think any one would have been able to keep a straight face.
Hello Beth
I just thought the same thing then I read your comment LoL
Indeed not!
There’s no way Tim Conway would have been able to keep a straight face. 😆
This is the scene I’m doing for theatre...the fact that Robin Williams preformed this scene makes me honored to be able to even try to be deliver this as amazingly as he did. Rest in peace legend...
Hello Stephanie
This is a classic! Two wonderful comic geniuses sharing a stage. Love it. Thanks for posting.
This is actually the first time I’ve watched a comedy skit with him since he’s passed away. Two comic geniuses at work - thank you Robin for making me laugh.
They threw the mould away when they made Robin Williams. An amazing and very funny man.
Talents that are so rare and so fleeting...we have been so fortunate to have had them in our lifetime.
Yes indeed !
There's nothing at all like them now.
Cheers to that!
Robin Williams: I wouldn’t wait I’m gonna be here a while 😩😭
I wish he was still here
Hello Eileen
@@davelamore6309Get a life, Dave!
I hope he’s happy, wherever he is now. He made so many other people happy, so I like to think he is laughing somewhere. He is so missed
He is in hell
Suicide is an unforgivable sin. He's not in a good place
@@Ginx-pe4si , unforgivable by you maybe. Fortunately, you don't count.
@@kevino4846 God Bless you brother
This is what happens when brilliant perfomers unite. I love this.
Two geniuses at work!
Anyone who could make Carol Burnett laugh was a Genius! God Bless!
Amen.
"You gotta jump up an' down picka bale o' cotton..." Why were these two so good together? Hilarious.
I would have never thought those two would have such great chemistry.
+William Cooper He was brilliant, a genius... gone too soon.
Kelly Hope
I agree totally...
+William Cooper Thank you for bit of info, nice to know.
Thanks William.

I am so grateful that CZcams has these. We will never be blessed with these geniuses again.
There will never be another ROBIN WILLIAMS🤩😬🤗🙃
😂 I sure miss Robin Williams may he Rest In Peace. I can imagine he has the Angels absolutely rolling in laughter .. How young they are in this clip!!😂 He and Carol Burnett, legends both, made a great team! 💖
And at the end of this video, I am sure Robin didn’t expect THAT from Carol. Two creative genius minds at work!
I love seeing two takes . AWESOME!
So I figured in the meantime, after Dad watched Walter, they (whoever They were) said, "Here's some laughs before bedtime."
I miss that innocence. 😔
Biasoenoe
Those were the days..... I watch certain channels on TV that play the classics. I can't watch the news or the crap they call comedy today. I wish we could go back in time.
Ralphie Mae is pretty dam funny!!
Oh my gosh!!! 🤣😂🤣😂 I laughed so hard I had tears with this one!!! He has cracked me up every since I first saw him!!! So much incredible natural talent!!! He was definitely a blessing to this world!!! I miss him.
This video makes me cry because he's talking about how sudden and tragic death is. Need I say more? Rest in Peace great legend
The movie he did "The Angriest Man in Brooklyn" was the opposite he was very annoyed at being told he had literally hours to live. Although a paper thin artery handled him losing it at the world's slowest store clerk James Earl Jones.
Well I liked him too -- very much; but his death wasn't sudden. He probably planned it well ahead of time -- though I guess it felt "sudden" for you.
He was a giant ant and he put some Bazooka Joe bubble gum in his pocket.. 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜😷😷😀😀😀😀🍬🍬🍬🍬🍬🍬🍬🍬🍥🍥🍥🍥🍭🍭🍬🍬🍬🍬🍬🍤
I think he would say something like " don't be sad, enjoy laughing instead"
A comic genius (Robin) with a comedy legend (Carol). Gone too soon ... I hope he knew how very much he was loved and is missed by all of us. He left a tremendous body of work for generations to cherish. Rest In Peace, Robin. 💜😥
This is fantastic... reminds me of some of the miserable conversations I've had with people who wanted to hear every last gruesome detail of the loss of a friend ... love how Burnett and Williams did this!
He was a Genius!! We all loved him. RIP Robin you are still a star in the sky.
Hello Maria
How are you doing today?
My two favorite comics together! I don't recall ever seeing this before so I'm glad you posted this! I absolutely adore them both and still mourn over his passing. He was a wonderful human being...and funny as hell.
"nature's way of saying 'check, please'" XD
"Death walks up and says your table's ready" lmao!
He was one-of-a-kind. RIP Robin Williams. You will be sorely missed and mourned by millions.
Hello Nina
She got him! Carol Burnett got the greatest improvisational actor of all-time Robin Williams!
I've watched nearly every video of Robin Williams ever filmed and the only two times I can remember Robin cracking was with his mother and now this one with Carol Burnett.
Two of the greatest ever!
Two of the most talented comedians I have ever seen :) Robins smiling down
One has to wonder at what point when Carol Burnett began to ask herself "At what point did I loose control of this sketch??"
.....but one has to agree,......they are both great comedians of any age......
I think that'd be 8:18.
Hassaan Mirza .....roughly about at that time frame,....yeah....got a point....
They are indeed great comedians for all time. :)
Stephan Mahler n
I think she realizes the sketch is lost to hilarity about 4:30 when Robin starts to keen...
