- In this video I share my process on how I write an indie song. Today's style is going to be influenced by the song "Looking out for you" by Joy Again, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. These are the steps I take to creating not only this style genre, but many other styles. If you guys would like to support the channel, please SUBSCRIBE, leave a THUMBS UP and a COMMENT! I struggled to find my sound for so long. I played acoustic so everyone’s first thought was country, I said no, but I did play western tunes. Got into folk, garage rock. Finally found myself at indie. Funny as I had known the genre I just never thought of my self like that but it fits 😅
I've been playing drums with a particular set up ever since i started and after seeing how smooth you play the cymbals it inspired me to switch mine around and i love it; thats why these videos are so great because I learn something/get inspired to try something new each time
That’s awesome, Seajay! I appreciate you! Yeah, here and there I still find myself adjusting in different ways. I think it’s a good thing. Whatever helps things to stay fresh and inspired!
Not even a drummer but love hearing that.
Once again nice performance ! Thank you for posting this kind of vibes

since I discovered this channel I have been inspired a lot by you and your videos! I don't know much about music theory but I'm passionate about making songs with the little I understand, what do you recommend? It is a very big world and sometimes I feel that it surpasses me, thank you very much for your videos! they are incredible.
I'd say... just get familiar with the major and minor scale, functional harmony and, since you're watching an indie dedicated channel, learn a bit about secondary dominants and tritone substitutions. Also use a lot of seventh chords. Once you're comfortable with that just play around and make major chords minor or minor chords major (basically modal mixture). You have 90% of indie music covered with that lol
Edit: oh, and learn songs. Learn them and try to understand what scale they're in, the degrees of the chords, etc.
I don’t know how to explain music theory but I understand how it works- If that makes any sense. What Zer0Spinn says makes the most sense. Immerse yourself in the process of getting familiar with chords. And by doing that, learn cover songs. Once you get familiar with more existing chord progressions, you’ll find yourself experimenting with your own.
This is amazing! I'd love to hear more of these style of songs with faster tempo since there's been a lot of slow dreampop on your channel. Or maybe something similar to the band Project Bongo.
Thank you so much! I’ll definitely consider writing more music like this. It was fun to make. I totally hear ya! Stay posted! And Thank you for watching!
Can you do a "yellow house" style video?? Like the song "ain't gonna call" vibes? It would be massively appreciated
man your videos are really good.
If you take requests, can you also try to make "City pop"?
Thank you so much! I’ll check out City Pop and consider it. 💪🏻
Hey how did you get your vocals to found like that, what effect?
that was sick 🔥
Thanks, Mylo!🙏🏻
Would you recommend recording a bass with all the low end EQ or recording a bass with the low end EQ cut out and more highs boosted?
That would all depend on the style you’re going for. If you would like more control in post production, then record your bass direct-in with your tone somewhere in between. Then afterwards you can duplicate the track in your DAW and boost lows for one, and mids/high for the other. And just adjust the volume for whichever you would want to stand out more. I hope that helps!
@@bananalabs thanks man!
love your videos, i really think you sound like yoni wolf. you should do something like why? just prove me right! lol
Thank you! Haha I’ll check him out and see what’s up. Maybe I will… Slap on that bell notification and stay posted! 😉💪🏻
It blows my mind that you can just decide to write a banger whenever you want. Any reason you dont release to your own name ?
Amazing video Could you do a song like kakkmaddafakka that would be awesome
Thank you! I’ll throw that one on the list! Turn on the bell notification so you know when it gets posted. 😉💪🏻
