- here is a really reaaaalllly bordderlineeee uselessssss video of me trying to explain my songwriting process that i absoutely do not even understand myself so idk how to explain it to you but i tried my best.
to be honest, the best way to get good at songwriting is just by listening to CRAP TONS of music, really really listening to the patterns, and just by practicing a lot lot lot. the first few songs you write will make no sense. don't worry. it'll make a lot more sense five years down the road! don't! give! up! (unless songwriting just isn't something u wanna pursue heh then u can probably focus ur attention on things you like more ya know u do u).

Im sorry this might be weird but my friend is a singer/ songwriter song of her songs went popular on tiktok and spotify (just to tell you she obviously can write a good song) but dude i wrote songs in a month like whenever i was free i made it a challenege for a month to write songs whenver i was free and so far i wrote 13 songs in the month and i have a studio in my basment so i have the software and instruments to make the melody and when i finished the songs i showed them to my friend acting like it was an album from an unkown artist and she said she LOVED the songs lol and she was so suprised when i told her i wrote them lolol

I do not care about writing songs at all, but him explaining his process is so precious.
So , I don't know *anything* about music at all as I've never been to a music class in my life (I'm 15 now) and don't have any instruments at home either , but I write lyrics , the thing is , when I get the first line or the chorus line or just any line into my brain (which no one knows how) , it already comes with a tune , like ,

Something that'll never come true"
, These are the first two lines of one of my favourite songs I wrote and when I got those lyrics into my head , they didn't come as words but came as a song already with some sort of tune , from that tune and lyrics I just go on with the rest of the lyrics naturally coming into my head (but I struggle at the parts where the tune needs to be changed after a few lines of lyrics in that tune but somehow end up finishing it tho 👍) so...
Mine is a much more complicated case....

omgg cone ur amazing!! u literally cleared my thoughts, and all u said is truly relatable (at least to me). sometimes I take my guitar thinking like "yup, i’m going to write something rly dope” and then i end up failing miserably, or writing something that looks like any other song but something i’d actually write?? it's just so frustrating, and, as you said, we end up being limited by chord progressions.

It's the other way round for me. First I make the words, then the tunes come. Like I have a certain thing that I wanna write or talk about, or describe, and I sort of start writing about it, a little like I'm writing a poem. Then I start singing what I've written out in different ways until I've found what suits it.
BarknoorZ I do this as well! I wouldn't say I'm a writer more than a musician or vise versa, BUT I'm a jazz musician. A woodwind player. My musicality in playing is focused on expressing things without words.
So when it comes to songwriting with lyrics and ukulele, I lean toward the writing. My writing is like a poetic extension of my abstract emotions that I need to express in words. So I'll write up, when inspiration strikes, about something that hits me and then either with it or later I'll find how I want it to be sung and then I add chords and stuff. Because chord progressions and such aren't my forte, I'm no crazy innovater there.
So there's to different kinds of music with me, I guess, and the lyrical kind is built in lyrics
