Everything about this video is first class: the orchestra, chorus, soloists, but also the audio and video (camera work). Congratulations to all taking part!
@Phillip Ephraim Yea, have been using Flixzone for months myself :D

A wonderful performance of one of the greatest English choral pieces. Bravo to the soloists, the choir, the orchestra and Brabbins who shapes it with such loving care.
0:50 - Preludio (for orchestra)
5:00 - Requiem aeternam
15:00 - The Lord is my shepherd (a setting of Psalm 23)
22:20 - Sanctus. I will lift up mine eyes (which juxtaposes the Sanctus from the Ordinary of the Mass with Psalm 121)
32:10 - I heard a voice from heaven (from the Burial Service)
36:55 - Holy is the true light (from the Salisbury Diurnal, translation by G. H. Palmer)
God Bless you Sir Herbert, you are with Michael and all your loved ones.We remember for ever!
Glorious! Words fail me.
The Rotterdam Symphony Chorus is quite wonderful here!
The astonishing sound of metal and wood
Sooo beautiful I‘m looking forward to singing this in February with my choir!!!!!! What a wonderful piece of heaven
Oh my! Beautiful. Love it. Everyone excellent. May God bless one and all. Thank you. This meant a lot to me.
This is wonderful music of its time. I'm ashamed that I do not know more of Howells's music - I intend to change this immediately and have already found his Cello Concerto on CZcams
Superb! thankyou for posting. The soloists are excellent, and the conductor as outstanding here as he was at the Proms.
The best version ever! So beautiful
This is a wickedly hard piece to sing emotionally, vocally and musically...These guys were amazing! And the choir is the right size!
Wonderful score, Pfitzner's fragmentation of Palestrina could be felt in this massive work of Howells, truly beautiful, thanks
Sublime!
So beautiful. I just finished my hard work week and sat in my kitchen. Pulled out my cell phone and found this. 45 minutes but I had time. Worth every minute. I love it
Uma das maiores obras da música inglesa. Belíssimo trabalho artístico desses intérpretes.
The conductor looks like a hologram sometimes 😅
I will forever love the sanctus, it holds a very dear place in my heart and this performance is beautifully done.
The most powerful piece I know. Many, many thanks.
An astounding performance, loving and inspiring. It is certainly the best available on video. Thank you to all involved.
This is a real music
This is absolutely sublime. Thank you for posting this!
Zeer ontroerend, en fantastisch uitgevoerd.
This is a posting that really could do with subtitles even in English -
especially if the intent is to bring new listeners to Howells' work. I
know that will sound Philistine to some but I am afraid it is a modern
reality - especially with a work this involved.
Stunning, no words.
FANTASTIC.
Exceptional.........bravo 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Amazing.
Love from India ❤️🇮🇳😊
Well done.
This is rich. Lovely in every way :)
The solo soprano was probably why the no. of views is so low. Everyone else was fantastic.
thornsaresharp Realistically and fairly the reason for the “low number of views” is because this piece isn’t better known. I was at the concert and the soprano soloist, Sarah-Jane Brandon, was sublime!
@@operarararaaaa | am happy for you. For me, unfortunately, her exaggerated vibrato sounded like a neighing horse.
thornsaresharp And what a beautiful neigh! We are all entitled to our own opinions, unfortunately.
@@thornsaresharp : I'm glad you wrote that. I'll bypass her when I get there in this performance. This piece is *not* opera (fortunately) so noticeable vibrato is unnecessary. This is a symphonic choral work. Too often exaggerated vibrato is used to cover up technical problems as well as pitch problems. I have really enjoyed the Symphony Chorus and Orchestra so far. But "neighing horse," I like that description. That describes most vocal soloists with their wobbling vibrato, from my experience. Thanks for that.
great
Welcome best I like it
This music is mentioned in Koe' s book Bournville.
Jonathan Coe brought me here. ❤
Thanks to Jonathan Coe(Bournville) for drawing my attention to this wonderful piece of music!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
32:52 - 33:30 this is the best for me
im not very well versed in classical music, but this is the type of stuff im looking for. any suggestions for similar types of music?
You might try Faure`s Requiem, it has many beautiful parts and is not difficult for ``beginners`` in classical music. For something more dramatic and large scale you could also try Vaughan Williams` 1st symphony `A Sea Symphony` scored for baritone, soprano chorus and orchestra - a great work for sure.
I would second Paul Lewis's suggestions, and add Maurice Duruflé's Requiem, which, like 'Hymnus Paradisi', brims with monumental tenderness and radiance.
The Durufle Requiem for sure. Listen to the Howells Requiem as well, which is a lot of the same music as the Hymus Paradisi but a different (and in my opinion more suitable) feeling. And listen to Howell's large body of Anglican liturgical music especially his many settings of the evening canticles. Also stated below Vaughan Williams's Sea symphony. Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music is also very hip.
The Dream of Gerontius by Elgar is a monumental part of the English Repertoire.
Sorry if i sound too dumb but what's this type of music called?
Where is this? This Cathedral is amazingly beautiful!!
's-Hertogenbosch (Netherlands)
Darn, I guess that this choir at the beginning sounds like a game over screen as though you are with the stars. and the stars brightened up too much.
side of her to their advantage. I couldnt speak up for myself until my people who i thought were my friends repeatedly disrespected me.
Impossible to watch without subtitles. Sorry
Get rid of the wobbly soprano. she ruins the whole performance.
