A piece of music that wlil still be listened to 1000 years from now ..no other word than excellent.
There's a good word than 'excellent'...
'Outstanding'
I prefer myself to use 'perfect'...
Yeah I don't like to use the word perfect but you're right in this case there is no other word!
I need to have a solar powered player installed in my headstone that will play this song continuously till the end of time.
Humans are eternally imperfect. And that’s part of our beauty. This is as close to perfect as we can hope to get.
Still coming back to this in 2021, and until my last days in this life 🙏🏻
@@fibreoptik I also my friend...
If this isn't playing when I get to the pearly gates, I ain't goin' in.
Didn't plan on crying tonight but here we are.
Haven't heard this in 3 years, and it hits exactly the same.
This piece of music in a cathedral with those acoustics must be like heaven to witness live.
Fifty years ago my high school choir performed this piece, in English, at a nearby church. Our performance was absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, we never recorded this song. As I write this I have tears in my eyes. Such a wonderful performance. It's true - music is the universal language and hymns like this one can truly pull us together as a people. Carry on, choir. Love to all of you.
The story of Babel divided us by language, but the power of music untitled us by spirituality.
"Without music, life would be a mistake." Friedrich Nietzsche
Agreed Gentleman.
Dennis Agra What words from Nietzsche ?! ... indeed !
Hmm. I tripped on acid once and convinced myself life was only worth it because without, music wouldn't exist. Literally the only thing holding the universe from falling apart, the unspoken particle, a dark matter, able to be transformed into dark energy.
C'est juste ! Sans la musique, notre vie serait triste et vide, comme dans l'ennui et la dépression. Bien cordialement.
the 389 people who gave this a thumbs down are brain dead with no soul, this is one of the finest pieces of music ever written and wonderfully performed.

There is little that can equal the sounds of choir like this singing a piece like this within a Cathedral. Nothing else comes close.
Oh! Do this is why they built those ostentatious cathedrals?
@@gretafields4706 The cathedrals were build ad majorem Dei gloriam, not mere ostentation or vainglory.

You are not alone, dear friend.
I've always thought that Addagio for Strings is the saddest song ever. It's just so emotional. Can't imagine what Barber was feeling when he wrote it.
It's not just you!

I am Buddist, so not have Christianity essense. But I feel this song has solemness.
I'm an atheist. Music needs no religion. It is simply good for the human "soul".
@@glenniecox5738 what a poopy explanation. "Music that is written for the sole purpose of devotion to Christ.* Atheist: wow actually this is not religious its just good for my human soul (which I dont believe actually exists)
@@DoctorDewgongI’ve been studying Barber and his music. This wasn’t written for any god. He seems to have had demons that troubled him…nowadays that would be so different for him - he was gay. You don’t need mumbo jumbo to appreciate beautiful music.
@@puppy1584 lmao the relativism cope. Pretending that words mean nothing. "It's good for my human soul BUT I'll just ignore the fact that every single word of it is devoted to Christ." Atheists need to start admitting how stupid their perspectives are
I had the honor and privilege to perform this piece with the Carthage College Choir in the late 90’s. I had a hard time trying to keep my voice every time we sang it because this hit the depths of my soul while performing it. To this day I shall never forget the feeling of being moved so ethereally and spiritually.

I don't pretend to be a classic music buff. However, I have "always" liked Barbers adagio for strings. This choral version is totally new to me and even better? Beautiful.
Wouldn't it be great listening to this masterpiece live in a church?
If only…
If one day the world ends this should be set up to play on an infinite loop as a testament of our existence on this world
Whether stringed instruments or voices, this Adagio is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written.
Absolute sacrilege for You Tube to break into something so beautiful as this with the bleeding ads.

Where are you from Roger?
This takes so much vocal control to sing. Each of these choir members is an outstanding vocal musician. The sopranos on the high sections - so beautiful and tastefully done. I could listen to this to all day. For anyone who doesn't know, this Latin prayer is translated in English to "Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, grant us peace."
So beatiful and touching

The human voice is the best musical instrument
Vero. Semplicemente vero.
The human voice is the original musical instrument.
So wondrous how the male and female voice just complement each other in this performance. beautiful.

Perfection. If I was in that church hearing that live I would cry like a baby..
This really shows how complex and layered the piece is...I don't want to even think how many rehearsals this took.

Music is one of the few things that has kept me from giving up on life
Keep the faith, Elijah! God bless you!
@Elijah Music helps me too. Music like this comes from God. His spirit inspires music like this which is why it has a special affect on us. It lifts up the soul and mind to go beyond our earthly realm and into the divine. "Agnus Dei" means "Lamb of God" which refers to Jesus Christ. I too was feeling depressed about things and this music brought my mind back to God and I felt hopeful again today. Each person has a body and an eternal soul. Our soul will live on and if we try to live good lives, we can spend our eternity in Heaven with God after we die. In the meantime, we have to make an effort to use our talents/skills to help others and do the task for which God sent us to earth. Take care my friend!

Certainly you are not the only one.
I don't cry when I hear it anymore, but that is 40 plus years from when I first heard it. I used to go the listening room at college and play it on the little record players they had for us students... then, I would pull friends in to listen to it with me. Oh, yes! When the angelic choir sings, there's no tuba, accordian, or even kazoo accompanying. Our voices ARE His created instruments at times, and the whole shebang in Psalm 150 at other times!

This is the first place I heard this piece too.
Always a moving song, but THIS video invites me to imagine myself surrounded by this soaring architecture, under the candlelight.
I actually prefer a choir than an orchestra for this masterpiece.
You know, I do too, except for one thing. In the instrumental arrangement, my favorite part is where the whole ensemble moves higher and higher to the climax. Essentially, the "bottom falls out," with the lower instruments playing in their highest registers, and the whole group soars higher and higher to the pinnacle. Due to the limitations of human voices, I'm assuming, the build to the highest peak is not replicated in the choral arrangements. Basically the highest part ends up a repeat of the prior phrase in the same register. I'm a violinist, not an arranger, but if that section could br rearranged to more closely follow the rising of the entire tonality, soaring ever higher to the peak through both phrases, Tony ear, it would be perfect. All that said, I do adore listening to this in vocal form, and find it even more moving in some ways than the string quartet and orchestral arrangements.

Jean Trindade - I'm about to play it for the third time but look forward to hearing it in a cathedral or old church building built for acoustics.
Only music can touch so closely the mystery of the world, and it all came from the brain of one man, well, one big genius, Mister Samuel Barber...
Not possible to fully accept that. The Adagio came 33 years before the Agnus Dei version. About the number of years that Jesus lived among our blessed predecessors.
Of course, Barber like many great artists had genius. But the raising of that genius to transcending levels is the work of the Holy Spirit.
In His striving to make us better Disciples - His core mission - the Holy Spirit helps soe of us reach higher and others of us to see more of the effects of that.
How wonderful is that? And how grateful I am that it is so!
