    On another video on the same subject, the guy took way too many parts off the top of the engine, but had a great idea for getting the PCV valve out. He put a bolt that just fits into the top of the PCV valve, which gives you a solid upper tube on the top of the PCV valve. Then he grabbed the top fitting of the PCV valve with a vice-grip and pulled it out. The bottom rubber didn't come out, but he was able to remove that in 1 piece with a curved hook. He had to put the hook under the bottom seal in a couple different places, but it came out in 1 piece. Hope this is helpful.

    Seriously good video! After my fiasco I recommend taking off the valve cover. Then take a painters putty knife...the kind with a crescent cutaway. Brace the pcv housing with the putty knife so it won't be broken use a seal puller to pry out the pcv valve through the little hole located on the pcv valve stem. Pops right out! If you need to you can drill a bigger hole for the seal puller. Use the putty knife for leverage and pry with the seal puller.

      Thank you so much. I did it without pulling the cover. I reached in with a putty knife in one hand, a curved set of needle nose pliers (with the hook part up) and pinched it hard and pried it out. Then dug out the rest of the gasket chunks

    once you pry on it and crack the valve cover the pcv valve comes right out! Live and learn!
    Great video

      Alan Smith you have to be careful. Chrysler/Dodge plastic parts gets really brittle and breaks easily

    pull the pcv valve out with the engine still hot. softens the old rubber, and it will come right out. dont try to do it with a cold engine.

      In my case watch and see how hard the rubber had become. A hot engine wouldn't solve this one. Just buy a new valve cover with the PCV valve installed if it doesn't come out with some reasonable effort. Mine was a push in, but some models have threaded ones.

      That can work depending on the age of the PVC. In my case I suspect it was original and I heated the pvc with a torch multiple times and it didn't help. I sprayed wd-40 and had to work it for almost a half hour to get it out.

    @vincebrady2976 Před 4 lety +5

    My understanding is that this valve is to changed when the engine is warm to hot, supposedly then it pops out easily.

    • @jimdandy6472
      @jimdandy6472  Před 4 lety +2

      Maybe if it's only been installed for a couple years, but I had my valve cover off and on the ground digging and chipping away at the hard rubber. It was never going to pop out. Mine was the original, thus 12+ years old.
      Some models screw in, but this model was a press in.

    That is Genius, I did it myself successfully using your illustration.

  • @jbeargrr

    Jim, I couldn't even get the rear valve cover off. Mine's a 3.3, I saw yours is a 3.8. I removed my cowl and wiper assembly. Changed plugs and wires, and the front valve cover gasket.
    Couldn't get the rear valve cover off, or the pcv out.
    I finally conceded defeat, and put everything back together. I might have to pay a shop to do the rear gasket and pcv. Which I'm not happy about, having done the rest myself.

    10:20 Love the technique of round metal inside the pcv and pliers on outside. Can't understand why my pcv valve is stuck - 2005 original valve with with only 156K and 18 years?

    This was easy for Chrysler to make, but a nightmare to replace. Many pcv valves simple threa in to the engine block. Much better design.

    I am having the issue with my PCV valve not staying put, once I turn it on and cuts right off. When I remove the hose the valve is inside of it.

    I screwed a bolt into the top of PCV valve after pulling on it with no results I got a torch heated the bolt pretty hot grabbed the bolt and it heated the rubber and slid out using vice grips 🔥 hot

    • @jimdandy6472
      @jimdandy6472  Před 2 lety

      That's a good idea. Similar to how plumbers get PVC pipe out of one side of a coupling, so they can reconnect to it. The valve cover is plastic, so this may occasionally lead to problems.

    Thankyou for this video. I was just trying to replace my pcv on my 04 and all i could find were videos and pictures of threaded pcv's so I assume my engine was replaced at some point or the factory was transitioning to 05 and mine had parts from both years.

      Lesson learned: 2001-2004 had the metal valve covers and threaded pcv valve; 2004-2007 has plastic valve covers and the grommet style pcv valve.

    Wonder if a heat gun could make the PCV rubber soft enough to remove it?

    • @billbobs
      @billbobs Před 3 lety

      On mine no, but the heat gun seemed to make it a little easier to cut the rubber into pieces using a thin blade pocket knife. Not hard to do.

      Run a bolt into the valve get a torch heat the bolt and it'll come out while hot.

    Hello, may I ask you the reason you changed this PCV valve? Did you have an engine code or you oil consumption was an issue?

    • @jimdandy6472
      @jimdandy6472  Před 5 lety +2

      There was no problem with the PCV valve, but it made sense to change it while the rear valve cover was off. It was a real pain to remove "on the bench", so would have been near impossible to change without removing a lot of things in the future. My main goal was to replace the valve cover gaskets.

    • @KennyBaltz
      @KennyBaltz Před rokem

      If they get stopped up they can cause oil leaks. So if you are changing the value cover gaskets to stop oil leaks you should change the PCV valve just in case. It’s a maintenance item also that is always overlooked. -KB

      EGR Valve. It recirculates exhaust gases from the side of the head up into the intake to be re-burned.
