Hello D Music Life ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

@Das Teufelswerk Yes, she is a stunner. I love the more authentic vocalists like Florence, PJ, Tatiana, LP and so on. Floor tends more to being a very well trained pure pro. I understand why so many people love her. But I luv the so called 'imperfections' in a voice more.
I too am NOT into Nightwish as it isn’t my style of metal, I will also have to vehemently disagree about her being the “Finest Female Vocalist on the planet”….yes she’s extremely talented but I would but Amy Lee above her especially for Rock/Metal….I would also say Beth Hart, Maria Brink, and the women from Celtic Woman!!
@@ProudBostonian My point is not that she's better than any of those women; it's that she can hold her own with any of them in there own genres. I love Amy Lee and Beth Hart but not sure how either of them would do singing opera. Amy Lee has a beautiful, angelic voice but doesn't have Floor's range. Floor's maybe not the absolute best in any genre but she's very good in any of them; sort of the Willie Mays of singers.
She can growl. She can do everything.
Kindly note that the drummer in this video is not Kai Hahto from Wintersun. This is Jukka Nevalainen, the original drummer for the band. Kai did not join Nightwish until Jukka stepped down in August of 2014. Although it was sad to see him go, it's nice to know that he still works behind the scenes with the band. Kai is awesome but Jukka was my favorite drummer of all-time.
No worries...they have heavy and she can do anything! Classically trained, rock trained and a vocal coach. She is story teller with her vocals. Love her/them!
Floor's voice is one more superb instrument in Nightwish and her stage presence is now a solid foundation for their gigs. Still, ultimately, Nightwish being the family they are matters the most for the fabulous result.
Yes.. FLOOR has a Gift for Music, but she's also passionate about singing and she's given 110% devotion to training, learning and performing. She's earned her Success!
My son and I we're at the May 12th show in Chicago she sounded as good on May 12th as she did in this video I am 57 years old I have been to over 500 concerts and this will be the one I will always remember welcome to nightwish you will never be disappointed
I saw them in MN on May 13th - simply incredible.
Several years (and hundreds of listens) later, I still get goosebumps from this performance. The orchestration, the composition, the instrumentation, the vocals... it's just perfection.
Kai from Wintersun joined a couple of years after this legendary show. The Disney comment is not far off. Tuomas (keys) is a big Disney fan. Floor has stated that if approached she would love to do a Disney production.
The bull's head is the logo for the Wacken Open Air Festival. Floor does do some growling, but Nightwish music is all about the story. If anger is required, the vocals used are more harsh.
Most Nightwish music is more introspective and less about anger and aggression. Marko (bassist) is the one who brings the angry aggressive vocals to Nightwish music.
Discovering Nightwish totally changed my life. I have never been in so much awe and so captivated by any other band. It´s so deep and beautiful.. Pink Floyd was my first rabbit hole in music as a kid. Then in my teens, twenties I was so addicted to Tool. These past years, my mind has totally been blown away with Nightwish. It´s a journey I know I will be on the rest of my life. Enjoy :)

Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch.
There were 82,000 people there.

When this was recorded Floor had been the replacement singer of Nightwish för just about 10 months. She did her first show in Seattle Wa on Oct 1st 2012 after the band fired Anette, their second singer. This was recorded Aug.3rd 2013.
This song wasn't on the set list for the tour originally since Anette didn't have the vocal ability to perform it. But Floor had heard the song when her first band After Forever" toured with Nightwish when Tarja, their first singer, was still in the band, and she loved it. So Floor asked Tuomas (the guy behind the keyboards) if they could make it a part of the set list. And they did, it was song number 13 of a 15 song set. There's som minor variations in the backing between Floors and Tarjas version, mainly that the choir have been reduced in volume. There's a video on youtube from, I think, Argentina, recorded Dec15th 2012. And there's one of Tarja doing it too. Congratulations on your first Floorgasms! (Thats what we call those goosebumps you get when you hear Floor Jansen sing). Greatest female vocalist in existence, period. Also be on the lookout for a comment by a gentleman named Gabriel Bardac. He'll have a ton of info on Nightwish for you, as well as a list of songs with links included. The bull's head belongs to the venue, Wacken Open Air. It's in the major beef producing part of Germany. Floor will tell you that she's not an opera singer although she's had a year of opera training. She's a metal queen who can sing anything she wants including some opera. She can growl and she can hit the notes that an opera signer would be able to hit. Now she is also a pop singer in her native Netherlands after a TV show called Beste Zangers which she was on in 2019. She also did several solo concerts during a Nightwish break from touring.
Floor growls in the right songs that are meant for a growl here and there. You'll get a lot of their heavy side if you continue with Nightwish. One song is better than the next, and so on. The Bulls Head is the symbol of Wacken (pronounced Vacken) - it's basically a cattle field in Germany where they hold a Heavy Metal festival each year. Welcome to Nightwish, the single greatest band with the finest composer of my lifetime. You will not hear a single song of theirs that you will not love. Each one becomes your new favorite. BTW: This drummer was the original drummer - Jukka. The drummer of Wintersuln is Kai Haito, who is the current drummer of the band. Jukka had medical issues and enlisted his very good friend Kai to take his place. Jukka is still with the band in an administrative way, so he's still in the family. If you want the "dirtier" stuff, try "Ghost River" and "Romanticide" and even "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean." Welcome from California.

The band has many styles and sounds, but not much growling. Plenty of bangers in the catalog, tho. This song, GLS, is like an appetizer sampler of their abilities.

Oh my god, you have fallen into the deepest rabbit hole you can imagine. The diversity of the band is insane, the boyz are fantastic and Floor Jansen is maybe the best female vocalist of our time. Always remember this is live. She never has pitch correction or auto tunes and the guys are some of the best on their instruments. You will find out. Best one to continue "Storytime" live from Wacken. 😂

Wow what a surprise, for some reason i thought you already reacted to this band, almost every react youtuber did at least this song. Love Nightwish and Floor Jansen, she's the third Nightwish singer and she got versatility on vocals like very other few singers, although the first singer Tarja Turunen is the one with more operatic vocals that for me fits a lot better with this symphonic metal band. But Floor did a great job with this song too, not complaining at all, she just isn't the operatic vocals style that Tarja clearly have. That last note gets me everytime, some fans called Floorgasm lol

I also recommend putting the captions on (if available) so you can follow along with the beautiful poetry of the lyrics. The keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen is the mastermind behind Nightwish and writes the lyrics for 95% of the songs. He is also known as the "Metal Mozart".
This show was something like 85000 people. Wacken is an area that is focused on raising beef, hence the flaming bull head. This show is legendary, and every single performance from it is worth reacting to. No hurry, it's not going anywhere. This is the mellowest song they did that night, check out Romanticide, Song of Myself, Storytime, or Ever Dream for even more spectacular vocals and heavier guitars. On Romanticide and Ever Dream you get to hear vocals from the bass player, their voices together are incredible. Floor is incredible, and if you're new to her you have a LOT of great stuff ahead of you. Her version of Nightwish's Phantom of the Opera is amazing. Ghost Love Score is not the song I would have introduced you to the band with, that works for other channels but I think you guys would like something heavier. She does growl...check out Yours Is An Empty Hope. It's funny you mention vocal coaches, there are a MILLION reactions to Floor from vocal coaches, to this song and others.
And, of course, she was a vocal coach herself.
You two looked familiar to me. I thought you must have reacted to Nightwish. But it was to Wintersun 3 months ago. The Wintersun drummer now, from 2014 on, plays in Nightwish.

Welcome to the world of Symphonic Metal, the glorious mash up of symphonic composition, orchestral instruments and heavy metal. I will admit I was worried that this might not be heavy enough for you guys but you seemed to enjoy it and hope you continue to explore this band and the genre. For something more heavy try Romanticide or Song of Myself from this same concert or Yours is an Empty Hope live from Wembley. For something even more heavy and with growling you should checkout Epica, another Symphonic Metal band that is from the Netherlands. Consign to Oblivion live from the Zenith in Paris would be right up your alley.
Welcome to Nightwish who are in my humble opinion the best live band on Earth fronted by again, in my humble opinion the best vocalist that I have ever had the privilege to hear. 11 months ago I discovered Nightwish and Floor having been continually pestered in to listening to them live by a good friend... I wasn't keen to give symphonic metal a listen as I didn't expect to like it but listen I did to "The Poet and the Pendulum" live from this show and OMG I was blown awzy and since then my musical world has been turned upside down and inside out. My lifelong favourites of nearly 50 years are the Electric Light Orchestra (E.L.O.) and now I have a second band. "Ghost Love Score" was the second live Nightwish performance that I listened to and again I was blown away. Jeff Lynne of E.L.O. and Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish are in my humble opinion two of the best songwriting composers ever. Thank you. Paul - Nightwish Army England UK Division. 🙏😊👍

If you want to hear Floor singing a bit 'dirtier', with some growling included, try Yours is an Empty Hope. Wembley Version is probably the best one to go for. Try to always do live with Nightwish. It truly does seem to bring out the best in them.

I was surprised to see that your channel has been going for three years now and you have never taken a look at Nightwish? Normally when you react to the type of groups you have been reacting to like Jinjer (two years ago) people would start recommending that you take a look at them
As I am sure that lots of people will tell you, they have a diverse repertoire. For Floor growling you could try 'Yours is an Empty Hope', or to see how a band should open a show, look at the show opener of this concert 'Dark Chest of Wonders'
This band is best seen/heard live, not studio versions. This concert has excellent sound quality so any song from this concert (15 songs) will not disappoint

It should always be noted that this was over an hour into their set at Wacken 2013. The fact they could still hit that level with an hour of hardcore rocking behind them, it lets you know how amazing they are.
Yes she was a vocal Coach at one point, and yes, she's classicly trained. Romanticide is going to be next for you by most people's recommendations, But, if you're REALLY, REALLY wanting a growl, check out "Yours is an Empty Hope" at Wembley, 2015, and when the chorus comes around, pay attention to who is singing rhe high part and who is on the underside of the harmony

Biggest rabbit hole in music you are staring at guys, jump in... life changing musically, discovering Nightwish. This is one of the calmer songs Nightwish do, they go all the way from thrash metal to folk to acoustic, and every single song is such amazing quality... no two are the same. Phrase most reactors use is... my favourite Nightwish song is the next one! Most people go for Romanticide next, far more metal... just wait til you hear what Marco the bassist can do when he joins in with Floor singing!

Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora.
Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 3 octaves (Eb2 to F5)
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people. The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.

Yes , Kai Hahto, from Wintersun, is the current drummer of Nightwish. Seen in this 2013 video is original drummer ,Jukka Nevalainen. Jukka stepped aside in 2014 due to health issues caused by severe insomnia, but remains with the band in management. Jukka asked Kai to take over. Jukka Koskinen , Wintersun bassist, is also now in Nightwish, having taken over when Marko Hietala left in 2021 after 2 decades.
Keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen writes 90-95% on the songs, including the backing orchestral tracks recorded with the London Philharmonic. He ,and guitarist Emppu Vuorinen , are the only original members left today. Floor Jansen is the 3rd and current lead singer, only 10 months with the band in this video, having taken over mid tour. As others have stated, Nightwish's play's a lot of different styles of music. I am 65 years old and started listening to rock & roll music at the age of 8....1965! Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Rolling Stones (who I saw in a local college football stadium with about 60,000 others, in the middle of winter, in the mid 1990's ), Ozzy Osbourne with Black Sabbath, the list goes on and on! To me, Nightwish is the most complete band I have had the joy of listening to for almost the last 4 years.

Nightwish is a band with a lot of difference music, every song is different and also a music adventure, when you hear the intro you know it is Nightwish. The band and the vocals are playing as 1 together. And Floor is a outstanding vocalist and here stage presence is overwhelming and theatrical. Nightwish is my favorite band.

I've always put off listening to this band, but I decided to check this out because I'm in the mood for something new. Can't deny she has an amazing voice, and the band sounds cool. I just have trouble getting into the very dramatic, theatrical side of metal.

If you want a growl, yours is an an empty hope live in London, Floor's growl is amazing. I am part of the Nightwish army, always will be.
Every song with NW is different, and if you like a heavier sound Romanticide, Ghost River, or Song of Myself from Wacken 2013 (just watch out for some of the HQ versions as there was a speed glitch, standard def is fine) Also Your is an Empty Hope or Weak Fantasy are heavy as well.

Floor does have a truly brutal growl in her arsenal of voices, but it's very sparingly used in Nightwish songs. To hear more of it one has to dig into her previous bands.
Kai is the drummer from winterson and doesn't join Nightwish until later this concert is 2013 and their former drummer Jukka pronounced ( Yukka ) is friends with Kai but suffered for years with migraines and other problems including insomnia but Jukka still works with Nightwish just behind the scenes. Floor Opera... well she can growl too check out Yours is an empty hope The Wembley Arena version is best sound is great and the camera shows close ups of Floor when she is growling.
