    For someone who can't tell the difference between the two, they cannot "practice" because they'll frequently get it wrong, and that makes them more confused. To practice anything, you have to DO IT RIGHT most of the time, if not always, so you may get the correct experience. If you get it wrong half the time, or if you simply do not know whether you get it right or wrong, practicing makes it worse.

    hi..sir, how do we pronounce the word CAN't if we're gonna connect with a vowel sound? eg. "The dogs can't eat the bones"
    should we say "T" as "d" or "T" is gone? which are the correct?

  • @RichardHoman9009
    @RichardHoman9009 Před 8 lety

    Based on personal experience, I'd say a few parts of this were off.
    The sound I'd say is between the "k" sound and the "n" sound in "can" is "i". It's casually pronounced identically to "kin", as in "next of kin".
    "Can't" isn't pronounced quite like "can". There's a glottal on the end (had to look one up lol), at least for many people. A glottal is a stopping of the air through the throat by closing the very back of the throat very briefly.
    For the most part, though, these seem pretty accurate.

    THIS IS THE BEST PRONUNCIATION¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • @hoang-longle4287
    @hoang-longle4287 Před 3 lety

    can: the voice of "can" is not accented, that is the vocal box rises at the 0-level; can't: the voice of "can't" is accented, that is, the vocal box rises above or below the 0-level. The rising or falling of a voice always happens at a vowel. In the natural oral pronunciation, a vowel is sounded when the tongue and lips are positioned at the vowel, but a consonant is not sounded when the tongue and lips are positioned at the consonant. This pronunciation is slightly different from the articulation; [c'a'n']: all are sounded (articulation), [ca'n]: only the vowel is sounded (pronunciation); "t" is naturally eliminated. (Humble share)

    just listen millions of times in different sentences,then you'll get used to it.
    You can find the difference automatically at last.but if you're still confused ?just ask which one to say.what's the big deal ?
    When you listen to them,don't think about your mother tongue sound.
    Just take it as it is.

  • @haiyen1439
    @haiyen1439 Před 2 lety

    Dear coach
    1/ can pronounced as strong form /kæn/ when emphasizing or contrasting "Yes, I CAN do it"
    2/ can't pronounced as /kæn/ in " Sorry, I can't do it", bcz /t/ between two consonants /n/ and /d/ ==> drop /t/
    3/ " I can't understand". drop /t/ and link /n/ with / ˌʌndərˈstænd/
    So, How do you distinguish in the situations "negative and positive with emphasize or contrasting to understand right? Thanks a lot

    @Luis58537 Před 4 lety

    It seems to me that "can", when emphasized in a sentence, is pronounced without the aspiration in the /c/, which doesn't happen in the negative form. I said "emphasized" because when the word "can" is reduced (the vowel is a schwa), there's no aspiration at all.

    I am confused with the pronunciation of "ex"
    Is "ik"-xplain or "ek"-xplain ? "ig"-xactly or "ek"-xactly??
    I realized that most of the words start with "ex", such as "example, extent,expend,exam,exceed" and a lot more , have "ig/ik" pronunciation (from pronunciation key)
    It's that true? How American pronounce them?

    Very useful lesson. At the same time... You know, I've been taught at school to pronounce 'Can't' like ahem 'Cunt', because we were learning British English at school obviously. And as I didn't know that abusive raunchy word 'Cunt' at all (haven't been taught), I used to see no harm in that way of pronunciation. Moreover, it was more comfortable to speak that way, to hear the clear difference between affirmative and negative forms of this verb. Must admit, I'm still suffering from the dilemma of should I say 'Can't' like 'Kent' or like '...' (fuck! again? I don't wanna type it one more time😠). And it's no fun beeing trying to answer people's question "why do the opposite forms of the verb 'Can' sound so similar". That's why the coach Shane skipped that part, I suppose 😈
